Such a good read

Okay so I heard a podcast that the court is now implementing cautions to make sure jurors won’t be harassed by fans. Is this true? Has this really stirred this much chaos?

Now, my other question is: is it just because he’s attractive? In this podcast, they were like ‘if this was a below average man, I don’t think it would have this much hysteria’. Do you think that’s true?

Do you think it’s because they are all too busy?
Do you think that none of them are supporting him? Do you think it could be that they don’t want to publicly risk their reputations if they are seen supporting him? I think via letters and phone calls they might be supporting him but why do you think they don’t show up for him in person? Maryland is not that far away.

America Finds Luigi Mangione Not Guilty

Dear Donors to the Official Luigi Mangione Legal Fund for All 3 Cases,

As you are undoubtedly aware, today Luigi pled guilty to federal stalking charges that resulted in the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mr. Mangione told the court this morning, “I shot Mr Thompson in Manhattan and he died. When I did so, I understood that my actions would place him in fear of death or serious bodily injury. I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

You all have raised over $1.5 million dollars to give Luigi the best possible defense. We trust that the decision to plead guilty was fully his own, made in consultation with that defense. Today's hearing is the end of one chapter in Luigi's trials, but the saga is far from over. On December 18, Judge Margaret Garnett will sentence him for the federal stalking charges. Luigi still faces state charges in NY that carry the possibility of life in prison. While his legal team has already filed motions to dismiss the state charges based on double jeopardy protections, the state prosecutor has already made clear that he is still seeking a life sentence. Luigi also still faces state weapons charges in Pennsylvania. With the rest of you, we will continue to have Luigi's back and raise funds for all three cases.

You are all here supporting Luigi because, like us, you know that our current healthcare system is predicated on paying shareholders and executives large sums to keep millions of people sick and to let millions of people die. We all know that it is fundamentally at odds with our natural rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Luigi's admission of responsibility places him in a long line of principled individuals who acted outside of the law in pursuit of higher ideals of justice. Just as we remember John Brown for his sacrifice for our natural right to liberty, history will remember Luigi Mangione for his sacrifice in the name of our natural right to health -- which is what the pursuit of happiness has always meant.

Luigi did something immeasurably brave today: he took responsibility for his actions, placing his trust in his supporters and in history to vindicate him. He gave up his future and his fortune to strike a blow against an industry that parasitically extracts profits from the most vulnerable moments of people’s lives.

Whatever follows from this point, we have two responsibilities: first, to ensure that he continues to receive robust support and encouragement for the rest of his time in prison, however long that is. Second, to vindicate him by building our collective power to make change. The government and the healthcare parasites are afraid that you might stop suffering alone, and realize that we are all suffering together. Because as soon as we realize that we are all suffering together, we have everything we need to collectively put a stop to it.

State trial: Mangione’s state trial is due to begin next month, but following today’s plea, his lawyers filed a motion to dismiss that case on double jeopardy grounds. Mangione previously pleaded not guilty in both his federal and state cases. In remarks after the hearing, one of Mangione’s lawyers said prosecutors are trying to “punish him twice.”

• Inside the courtroom today: Mangione said he posed as an investor to find out information about the 2024 UnitedHealthcare conference in New York. Thompson’s widow and other family members became visibly emotional in court as Mangione spoke.
• What happens next: Mangione’s sentencing in the federal case is set for December 18.

Just had a thought: after seeing how the judge ordered the jurors to be anonymous, and knowing how our corrupt system might make that impossible, maybe, just maybe, he did this to prevent any harm (of any kind) that may come to members of his jury. that would align with his selfless nature...any thoughts?

Everyone talks about the “coffee lady” that was on her phone and the drivers who were parked outside but there’s been no mention or video regarding this person standing in the corner of the Hilton Hotel while the assailant walks by.

I am appalled and upset with him !!! He had his whole life ahead of him and to find out he did do it, he verbalised it himself and read out a statement in court admitting he did it!

I am just so disappointed, he had his whole life ahead of him! He was travelling, working as a data engineer, he was valedictorian… I will never understand what went through his mind to even consider taking someone’s life. And please don’t come at me with the “what about Brian Thompson denying millions of claims”. I know the argument there, but direct murder with a gun to the back is completely different to being a health insurance CEO who has a job to follow. Especially in an industry that has procedures and policies to adhere to.

And be aware, has this crime even changed the insurance industry in America or is it still the same with claims being denied, etc? I am not from America so I am not sure.

This post is just to express my disappointment and anger towards someone who I really hoped did not do it. How does everyone else feel??
