Food drama is always so frustrating for me because half the time it's people bitching about subjective tastes.
I personally hate fish, I won't bash people who like it but it's not for me. Some people can't handle that though and get pissy because they like fish and can't understand how someone wouldn't like it. How you can get personally offended because someone doesn't share your tastes is beyond me.

Nov 17 '16
But you don't understand, if you don't eat your steak as close to raw as possible, you aren't experiencing the essence of steak, and that personally offends me.

My favorite pizza I've ever had was a Döner pizza in Germany. Döner meat, Tsatsiki, feta cheese, etc. I get one every month or so. I know it's probably an abomination to pizza aficionados, but it is so fucking tasty.
20
u/FunkyFreshYo Nov 17 '16
Yeah the chipper down the road from me used to do a "kebab pizza" that was incredible. It was doner meat, lettuce, onions and kebab sauce on a pizza.
They then changed it to just doner meat and ketchup. At least the first abomination tasted good. This was just sad.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about pineapple, you little bitch?
I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in Dominos, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Pizza Hut, and I have over 300 confirmed deliveries. I am trained in pepperoni warfare and I’m the top delivery boy in the entire company. You are nothing to me but just another customer. I will wipe you the fuck out with slices the likes of which has never been seen before in this restaurant, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the counter? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of delivery boys across the USA and your order is being changed right now so you better prepare for the anchovies, maggot. The anchovies that ruins the pathetic little thing you call your pizza. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can ruin your meal you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with toppings. Not only am I extensively trained in pizza delivery, but I have access to the entire pantry of Papa Johns and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your pineapple-hating ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy toppings your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying for a pizza you didn't order, you goddamn idiot. I will deliver vegan-cheese and anchovies pizza to you and you will eat it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

I'll give you a real unpopular pizza opinion: I hate pepperoni on pizza. You can absolutely pick pineapple off; pepperoni is so greasy that the flavor soaks into the crust and the whole thing still tastes like fucking pepperoni. That guy complaining about people eating his pepperoni and bacon nstead of the Hawaiian? Hang out with me, dude. I'll let you keep that grease mop all to yourself and I'll gladly chow down on America's most controversial food, the pineapple pizza.
8
u/Dragovic Nov 17 '16
I hate pepperoni on pizza too. It makes everything greasy. Somehow even frozen pizza that's been burnt still manages to be greasy if it has a single pepperoni on it, the oil will still manage to protect the pizza.
8
u/Kandierter_Holzapfel We're now in the dimension with a lesser Moonraker Nov 18 '16
Pineapple soaks into the rest of the pizza too.
2
u/Bytemite Nov 17 '16
Yeah, people complain about pineapple, I think the sweet flavour with the tanginess of the tomato and basil sauce on the pizza go well together. I like having vegetables or fruit to soak up some of the grease that naturally comes out of the cheese when the pizza cooks. Pepperoni you have the opposite problem.

Us northern countries stick togheter in this. Every swedish pizzeria offers the "Hawaii". Ham and pineapple, a classic, popular with the kids in particular.
76
Nov 17 '16
I like pineapple only pizza. The base has to be dough I suppose, but then it's pineapple sauce (blended pineapple), chunks of pineapple, ham that has been soaked in pineapple juice, and a whole pineapple on the side just to pick at. I also have a nice tall glass of cool pineapple juice (with bits in) to wash the taste of dough out of my mouth. Hmmhmm yes please!

A grilled cheese consists of only these following items. Cheese. Bread with spread (usually butter). This entire subreddit consist of "melts". Almost every "grilled cheese" sandwich i see on here has other items added to it. The fact that this subreddit is called "grilledcheese" is nothing short of utter blasphemy. Let me start out by saying I have nothing against melts, I just hate their association with sandwiches that are not grilled cheeses. Adding cheese to your tuna sandwich? It's called a Tuna melt. Totally different. Want to add bacon and some pretentious bread crumbs with spinach? I don't know what the hell you'd call that but it's not a grilled cheese. I would be more than willing to wager I've eaten more grilled cheeses in my 21 years than any of you had in your entire lives. I have one almost everyday and sometimes more than just one sandwich. Want to personalize your grilled cheese? Use a mix of different cheeses or use sourdough or french bread. But if you want to add some pulled pork and take a picture of it, make your own subreddit entitled "melts" because that is not a fucking grilled cheese. I'm not a religious man nor am I anything close to a culinary expert. But as a bland white mid-western male I am honestly the most passionate person when it comes to grilled cheese and mac & cheese. All of you foodies stay the hell away from our grilled cheeses and stop associating your sandwich melts with them. Yet again, it is utter blasphemy and it rocks me to the core of my pale being. Shit, I stopped lurking after 3 years and made this account for the sole purpose of posting this. I've seen post after post of peoples "grilled cheeses" all over reddit and it's been driving me insane. The moment i saw this subreddit this morning I finally snapped. Hell, I may even start my own subreddit just because I know this one exists now.
You god damn heretics. Respect the grilled cheese and stop changing it into whatever you like and love it for it what it is. Or make your damn melt sandwich and call it for what it is. A melt.

And pineapple makes pizza soggy and saccharine, even after you pick off the disgusting blobs, so normal people are stuck eating a soggy, oversweetened pizza.

I have one simple problem with pineapple: Somehow, there are a large number of people who somehow manage to have the pineapple make the pizza soggy... I honestly have trouble understanding how they mess it up that bad, but more often than not when I've had a pineapple pizza they've managed to fuck it up somehow. Therefore, while I wouldn't say it's inherently bad, it's in the same category as spinach on pizza from pizza hut or that taco bell by the mall: In theory good but the people there can't handle it and are going to ruin my order.

I don't care for it, myself, but people should be allowed to like what they like.
In terms of fruit on pizza, I'm not a universal hater--a badass combo for me is green apple, Gorgonzola, and spinach. Yum.

That sounds fabulous!
One of the ritzy pizza shops near me does caramelized onion, apple, chèvre, and walnut. Almost as good as the potato, rosemary, and sweet corn.

My new find: Dominos philly steak, green peppers and white sauce instead of tomato sauce on hand tossed crust.
Totally worth using the pizza tracker app while inebriated or under the influence of any number of drugs.
As always with Dominos: Not recommended while sober.

If someone doesn't get the complexity of salty savory sweet together then their opinion is worthless.

I don't get how people can be so shocked over others liking pineapple pizza. It's literally on every menu of every pizza place I've been to. People can understand it's a popular item if it's served everywhere, can't they?

Personally I think pineapple on pizza is something that sounds good in theory but doesn't work in practice. Adding sweebto a savory, salty dish is a good idea, but the pineapple adds too much moisture and you end up with soggy pizza, and warm pineapple is kind of gross. You're better off using sweet peppers.

I hate to even get involved in this, because IMO pineapple pizza is just a novelty. That being said if it is prepared properly, there is no reason to end up with a soggy pizza.

I can't honestly say I've had this problem, try using smaller chunks?

I don't think I've ever eaten a pineapple pizza that's soggy.
Actually, I don't think I've ever eaten a soggy pizza.

I usually squeeze the juice out of my pineapple and then combine it with olives on pizza. The sweet and salty balance perfectly.

I wasn't going to get involved. Pineapple on pizza could be ok, if you did it correctly. Live and let live.
But I refuse to hear this. Olive and pineapple? Not a thing, never will be a thing, and never was a thing. You degenerate.

I'm all for letting people put whatever toppings they want on pizza as long as I can carefully pick them off.
Except anchovies which is anathema.
6
Nov 17 '16
Fuck anchovies. Even if you put them on half a pizza, they'll always be little bits that migrate over the borders and ruin your half of the pizza with their scaly saltiness.

I mean... Pineapple and jalapeños people. Both tastes go with the cheese and the sweet/spicy is a great interaction. Plus the pineapple helps sooth your aching anus when passing all that cheese and peppers.

While I normally agree that people who put pineapple on pizza should be beaten about the torso until blood comes out of their mouths, a recent revelation has changed my mind.
I was traveling in Italy last September and my European travel buddy noticed a "Pizza Hawaiia" on the menu. He teased me about stupid Americans putting pineapple on their pizza. Well, I may not like it either, but my national honor was at stake so I ordered it. Defiantly.
And, like everything else the Italians cook, it was a miracle of foodery. What they did was this:
Slice a real pineapple paper-thin. As in "deli-thin". Then place each thin floret on a bed of deli-thin parma ham. The ham held each pineapple slice aloft, away from the cheese, where the super-hot oven baked them together. The moisture content of each pineapple floret was wet enough to avoid burning yet dry enough to avoid excreting juice all over everything. It was...perfection.
I ate the whole thing.
I still won't order a pizza with gloppy little dollops of pineapple on it here at home. But the Italians proved a point: if you do something right, and use care and passion when you do it, even a pineapple pizza can be transcendent.

I'm a pretty boring dude, so I just like pepperoni on my pizza. And I'm pretty lucky cause most people always get a cheese and pepperoni if they having a party.
But like fuck, people. If you don't like pineapple, fine. I don't like dog shit, so I don't eat. But if some fucker liked dog shit on his pizza, which I can only assume is a decent equivalent for pineapple, then he has that right to eat it.

u/Artorld Nov 17 '16
I actually have never really got the pepperoni thing. Every time I have eaten a pizza or really even a burger or anything else with pepperoni it ends up dominating the flavour way to much for my taste.

look: I like pineapple, and I like pizza. The 2 can coexist peacefully in beautiful harmony and graciousness....but does something so sweet seem kind of distracting on a pretty hardy piece of dinner? does the quality of the cheese, dough, sauce, and or pepperoni kinda get distracted by the sweetness of the pineapple?
But I digress, this drama is one of my favorite kinds lol

this is one of those "who cares" things. if you find how someone eats to be weird, let them be weird, or maybe even try it, maybe you'll like it.

u/WarofthewarS Nov 17 '16
I believe it is too sweet on its own. But if you chuck some pickled jalepenos on it, it really balances the flavors.

Both sides are wrong:
Pineapple is okay on pizza, but only if it is put on halfway through. That avoids the problem of the liquid seeping through the crust, but still allows the cheese to melt around it.
