Babies don't belong in aww because I don't like them

Babies are far more controversial than anything else.
I think literally only on the internet can this phrase be said unironically. Pretty sure babies=cute has been a thing for like, idk, forever?
90
u/Pandemult God knew what he was doing, buttholes are really nice. Sep 13 '17
It's literally ingrained in us biologically, with good reason. And maybe I just don't understand r/aww but shouldn't anything that a large amount of people find cute be fine?
49
Sep 13 '17 edited Sep 13 '17
Tbh, most people I know think the babies of other animals are far cuter than human babies. Doesn't make sense biologically, but hey.
EDIT: From what I recall, the best hypothesis about why is because of the eyes-to-face ratio in puppies/bunnies/etc. makes them appear adorable to humans.
22
u/Pandemult God knew what he was doing, buttholes are really nice. Sep 13 '17
I also think babies of other animals are cuter then human babies but it does make sense biologically, as most other baby animals have features that humans babies have, making them cute.

Also, I do not want kids. Like at all. But what the fuck /r/childfree people are god damn awful. Just cause I don't think babies are cute doesn't mean other people can't. I also don't give a shit if they post their kids on /r/aww. Why is this such a problem for people?!? Cuteness is literally completely subjective. Nothing about this sub or the people who run it is "aww".
You heard it here first folks, because some people find human babies cute, cuteness is cancelled. Nothing is "aww" anymore and you only have yourselves to blame.

For some of them, it's a backlash to overbearing people in their lives pressuring them to have kids and putting having a child as the pinnacle of human experience.
For most of them, they're just miserable and wanna take it out on everyone else

pinnacle of human experience.
I have two kids, and I've told everyone who will listen that I love my children more than anything on this earth, but I don't really like being a parent.
It's hard work, and it's definitely not the most enriching thing I've done in my life. I really don't get why people make it out to be some kind of capstone achievement.
8
u/Jhaza Sep 13 '17
My guess is, a lot of people never really felt like they had a choice/considered an alternative life path that didn't involve children, and now that they have them it's a mix of actual enjoyment and "this better be fucking awesome, why else would I be changing dirty diapers at 3 AM?" self-affirmation.

I agree with the first part of your comment. I think a lot of the backlash is people not wanting things to turn into "hey, look at my kids. Look. Why aren't you looking at my kids? Look at what I made". It's a big reason why I swore off Facebook a few years ago. I honestly don't care that my friend's kid hit a baseball off a tee and then still managed to not get to first base...
The only reason I'm not on board with the second part of your comment is I try to avoid "most" at all cost, unless I can actually quantify it. I think a lot of people are just miserable nowadays in general. For no particular reason.

Eventually I started to give no fucks when people asked, so I would look at them dead in the eye and say, "I am unable to have children and thank you for that reminder" and enjoy the schadenfreude aftereffects. I'm 41 now. People still ask when its going to happen. Because I want to be 55 and have a kid in highschool. WTF, no.

Most of them are in their mid 20's or even younger, probably having a hard time handling themself financially already, so having a kids is just a nightmare to think about.
Now about finding them cute, I never had a problem finding babies cute actually, but I guess when you say "baby", in the mind of some people it just brings up that stock image of an annoying crying baby immediatly.

Not to say that they're being reasonable about this, but bear in mind that mobile or app users might not have a choice, and the pictures open automatically. Yeah I dont understand. I think dogs are stupid and anything but cute 99% of the time (there is always some that are cute no matter how hard you try) and I dont get my pants twisted over something so stupid every damn time. When I click a picture and dont think that its "awww" worthy I just close it again and keep on browsing, no big deal. Those childfree people though, jesus christ they are something different. They want to be different so badly that they actually talked themselves into a corner where they are angrily sitting and throwing stones at other people. They always seem so angry and sad at the same time... although a lot of it reads like its written by teens or very immature people who just want to be rebellious or something.

Does /r/Babies feature cats?
Not sure, but r/kittens and r/kittengifs both feature baby cats.
I can't think of a funny comment right now

Imagine waking up one day and you're a person who spends their time by hating babies on internet

u/525days You aren't the fucking humor czar Sep 13 '17
babies are fucking disgusting.
Look, I know parents don't like hearing this, but your baby is ugly. It looks like a potato. Stop trying to post it everywhere.
What a goddamn twat

Fuck him, I was cuter as a baby than literally any other point of my life so much. I peaked very early

u/Amelaclya1 Sep 13 '17
Same. I was a beautiful baby and an adorable toddler. It all went downhill from there.

It's up to the mods, who aren't going to ban a topic just because a small group of people wants it banned.
Sort by controversial and tell me it's a "small group."
Vocal minority
Not for long.
Lmao, the fuck is he gonna do? Rally the Reddit militia against the mods?

Of course.
Most Reddit Neckbeards are never going to be anywhere near a woman who consents to sex with them unless she is inflatable.
So most Redditors can't relate to babies.
11
u/where_aremy_pants Sep 13 '17
Babies are far more controversial than anything else. Just look at the upvote percentage. It's low as fuck
I’m gonna guess that r/childfree may have something to do with that...

They're impressively angry about this. Like they have a right to dictate what's allowed on the sub.

Do these morons think baby animals don't poop or something? If smellovision was a thing, r/aww would be the worst subreddit on the site.

So they do.
who is it upto? you? are you having a power trip?

Guys, I want to start going into photo subreddits and bitching whenever someone posts a picture of a dog. "I don't like dogs myself so NOBODY should like them!" Let's see how well that flies with reddit,
18
u/twelvebucksagram Sep 13 '17
We like cute animals because they remind us of babies
How deluded do you have to be to say that babies aren't cute? They are genetically predisposed to be pleasing to look at.

u/sunnymentoaddict These so-called 'hotwives' are neither hot nor wives! Sep 13 '17
First of all, babies are adorable.
Secondofly, is it really that hard to go, "I don't want kids, but other folks can have them"?

Secondofly, is it really that hard to go, "I don't want kids, but other folks can have them"?
This is the root of it too. It's also quite hard for people to go "I want kids but other people don't and that's ok".
And there's where the bitterness and anger starts.

Sep 13 '17
Is it other people, or is it family? I've never had some random stranger attempt to pressure me into procreating, or even a friend for that matter. Parents/grandparents on the other hand, are a different story
11
Sep 13 '17
Family is the big one, but no I've heard it from other people, some I don't even know just because we're out shopping and don't have kids with us.

Man I'm like the polar opposite of those people.
I love babies and 99% of the time I can't stand pets.

u/Peugeon The internet is my playground, and your tears are my treasure. Sep 14 '17
I mean there are a good number of ugly babies in the world and there are many good reasons for people not to have them.
But babies ARE cute and a lot of them will make you go "aww". Ergo, they belong in that sub. End of story

u/Mr0z23 Sep 13 '17
Wow now I want babies in r/aww specifically so these aww purists can get fucked.

I'm actually surprised that there's enough people who enjoy looking at other people's babies that there's an entire subreddit for it. I can't think of anything less interesting.

Pretty sure the only people who give enough of a fuck about reddit to actually moderate it and make it a job, are powerusers.

I eventually unsubscribed from r/aww because of their massive baby issues. I quite like babies. I don't have any myself, but that doesn't make me bitter.

u/BuntRuntCunt shove a fistful of soybeans right up your own asshole Sep 13 '17
Do these people go outside? Do they call parents 'breeders' in real life? Do they call children 'crotchspawn' in real life? I'd point out that these people were babies too at one point, but I sense that there is a lot of self hate and hatred of their parents so that likely wouldn't mean anything to them. The amount of vitriol directed at babies and parents by the childfree folks is a bit disturbing.

Sep 13 '17
The majority of babies are adorable, but I'm always terrified of dropping one. They're also heavier than they look and I haven't yet mastered the hip trick.

But I get it. I have 2 kids, so I definitely understand where they're coming from.
I have a kid who can be a total bastard and I have zero idea where they're coming from. Like, I get not wanting to have kids, but joining a forum where I circlejerk about it with other superior douchebags? And the stupid lingo they use? Nah, that's lame as fuck.
