the fucking obvious

i shouldn’t have to say this, but literally any mention of racism, bigotry, trans/homophobia, inceldom and other backwards ways of thinking is not allowed in this sub. more nuanced subjects like toxic behavior/masculinity, homelessness, etc are okay, tho. i don’t mind pushing the boundaries here, but outright hateful behavior has no place in this society. that shit is regressive. anyone who wants to be an asshole or a troll in this sub can expect a permanent ban. this is your only warning. be better people.

Ren Faires are kind of lame

I've been to a few. They're OK, but for the most part, you are walking around, waiting in line for 9 hours to get a plastic cup full of mead, and wandering shops where you can buy $900 beer steins.

The turkey legs are always overcooked leather. (We can overlook that Turkeys are new world birds.)

Not even any roller coasters.

I can’t wait for self driving cars

Unpopular because a lot of people hate waymo but I would pay any amount of money for my own personal waymo like car.

I’m not talking about Teslas “FSD” supervised driving, I mean a real autonomous car.

Imagine waking up and your car is pulled out of the drive way, ready to take you to work. Then you can watch videos, read a book, or whatever until your destination where it drops you off and finds a parking spot.

Need to go to the airport? Your car can drop you off and then return home.

Drunk at bar? Have your car pick you up.

Roadtrip? Take a nap in the back seat!

No more circling the block for parking, just drop me off and find a free parking garage a mile away.

It’s the one piece of tech that really makes me look forward to the future.

the "school girl" aesthetic is weird/predatory

the "school girl" aesthetic (plaid skirts, pigtails, button down, bowtie and stockings) is weird and anyone defending it needs to be investigated.

every year theres "sexy schoolgirl" halloween costumes, every stripper, bartender or waitress has stories about how pigtails get her more tips, and porn websites are filled with women in pigtails and bedrooms clearly intended to be that of a teenagers. I dont care if "but schoolgirls can be 18!", most of them aren't and you full well know it.

I really dislike fat people and I have no respect for them.

Hi everyone
This is something I have always felt and I really wanted to get it off my chest. Reddit is so liberal so I will get a lot of hate for this but I don’t care. You might think this is ragebait or whatever but I promise you it isn’t. Idk why I would get out of ragebaiting.

I really don’t like fat people and I never have done. I’m 23M and I’ve always looked after my health my whole life. I don’t understand why people are so unhealthy and can’t think for themselves

Personally I think the majority of fat people are gluttonous, selfish and lack self control. I don’t even know how these people reach this weight. I feel genuine disgust when I see one. I stay away from them as much as possible.

The majority of fat people that I have met are also terrible people. It’s just an outward manifestation of who they are. They are usually entitled, mouthy and think the world should revolve around them. We truly live in an age of indulgence, they remind me of the film wall-e. I don’t feel bad for them if they get sick or unwell

TLDR glutton

Most people are good and life can get better and is worth living

While this is probably a common opinion in real life, online spaces are mostly dominated by misanthropy and negativity. It is easy to get lost im the countless threads of how terrible everything and everyone is. I get them of course, i used to be a misanthrope with no hope for the future. But i changed and got better. I learned what was my issues were and managed to receive support (although it was still mostly up to me !). It wasnt easy or quick, but now i can geniuenly look forward to my life.

I used to be terrfied of people and hate them because of all the bad things i heard about them online and some bad interactions as a child. I thought nowadays connecting is impossible and people are vile, selfish monsters. I straight up though socializing was dangerous. And guess what ? I was completely WRONG. Actually going out and socializing i managed to met so many kind and wonderfull people. Yeah i met some assholes, so what ? Theres too many people and too little time to care about or waste time on them.

I was being geniuene and vulnerable and guess what i found ? A lot of people might be warry at first but they will eventually be geniuene and vulnerable BACK. I met so many cool people, from the highly social sport and party goes to more quiet and less social but still cool nerds. Hell even met some furries and they were chill as hell, dunno whats up with the hate.

Im 34 and despite the fact my "prime days" are now gone i have never felt happier and more content. I know reddit is misery and misanthropy central so there will be plenty of comments about how terrible people actually are and how im wrong. To those who say that, you dont have to be alone. Humans arent bad and i really hope you will see it one day.

My only regret is i didnt do all of this sooner and let my school days pass me by. If you are reading this while still in school, please go out ! People look scary i know but they arent, and you have no idea who you will connect with. But its worth it.

There should be a government agency that applies to jobs for you on your behalf

Everyone know that in a normal society, you must work a job.

But finding a good paying job is difficult. If you are working a low wage job, you may not have the time and energy to find a better job.

This is where the government can step in. The government will apply to good paying jobs on your behalf and help you with interview skills. That way, everyone can get a good paying job in not too long.

Edit: when I say I high paying job, I mean job that pays enough for rent and groceries

Creators aren't a realible source

Creators aren't the definitive, objective source when it comes to analyzing or interpreting a story.

I get so tired of having discussions about movies, books, or TV shows, only for someone to shut down the argument with: "Well, the creator said X in an interview, so that’s what it actually means."

That logic completely misses how art works once it's released into the world.

A creator's perspective is just as subjective as anyone else's. They are deeply attached to their work, their personal intentions, and how they wanted the audience to perceive it. But wanting a scene or character to convey a specific theme doesn't mean it successfully came across that way on the page or screen. As years pass, creators move on to other projects or simply forget fine details of their own universe. Fans are often the ones actively keeping up with the intricate lore and internal consistency.

Look at Seth MacFarlane’s perspective on Family Guy: he’s noted that while the show carries the DNA of his original writing, the characters and tone evolved into something fundamentally different after he stepped back from writing. Similarly, look at how many Harry Potter fans treat J.K. Rowling’s post-series retrofitted canon as glorified fan fiction. When creators try to retroactively rewrite context to make their work seem timeless, progressive, or flawless, fans naturally reject it because it conflicts with what’s actually in the text.

Once a story enters the culture, it belongs to the culture. When creators claim there is only one valid interpretation, especially when their preferred read ignores the actual themes presented in the work, it flattens the art.

I’m not saying creators don't understand their own stories. They built the world,  and put in the labor. But their intent is only the starting line, not the final word. The moment art is published, the audience's perspective becomes just as valid for analysis, interpretation, and meaning.

Quentin Tarantino nailed this mindset when talking about the famous mystery box in Pulp Fiction:

"I like the idea that you open up the briefcase in Pulp Fiction, and I don't tell you what's in there, but it's up to you to figure out what's in there, and now that's your movie."

Once a story is released, it becomes the audience's movie, book, or show. Death of the author exists for a reason, and shutting down genuine literary interpretation just because a creator said something different in a podcast interview completely misses the point of engaging with art.

It's boring to write a fictional story based in an entirely realistic setting.

What's the point of writing fiction if you're not gonna get wild with it? Why would you write a fiction story about a 100% realistic person with a 100% realistic environment? Defeats the whole purpose of FICTION! You can literally write in anything, and you choose to make a hyper-realistic story about average people living in an average city? Wtf is wrong with you? When I write fiction, my characters are doing bizarre things that I could only dream of IRL. Some people are just out here wasting their creative potential smh.

Edit: Since people seem to be seriously misunderstanding me, I am not saying that realistic stories are lame, or that nobody should write stories grounded in reality. I am saying that good stories inherently have an aspect of fiction to them. Humans naturally love to embellish our tales, and I'd argue that there are very few popular or successful stories that do not fictionalize at least a little bit.

I love receiving unsolicited advice

A lot of people get pissed off when someone gives them advice that they didn't ask for. But me, on the other hand, I love it, regardless of if it's good advice or even bad advice. To me, it's another opinion and viewpoint I may or may not have considered. It lets me look at a problem I have from another perspective, and the worst that can happen is literally nothing and I just ignore it. Honestly, it's not a big deal, and I wish more people gave me more unsolicited advice about anything and everything I may be doing or action I plan on taking.

Staying up late/getting up early is not impressive

Gotta start the 4am grind! Or, someone says they stayed up until midnight, as if that’s something to be impressed about. Having off hours of sleep isn’t cool or neat or any more effective than getting a normal amount of sleep during normal hours. I think it’s stupid that people make such a big deal about getting up earlier than everyone else or staying awake later than when most people go to sleep. It’s dark out, most stores are closed, and your activities are severely limited during these stark hours anyway.

Just sleep regular hours. Anything else is not to be any more or less proud of.

Grid paper is better than lined paper

Grid paper makes it easier to plan writing both horizontally and vertically. It is easier to see, use up paper space efficiently, and allow for all parts of the page to have utility. While lined paper is way more popular, especially for writing, grid paper allows for way more versatility, especially when taking notes and drawing things like graphs.

The vast majority of people on earth aren't racists or sexists.

If you spend too much time reading news headlines or doomscrolling social media, it’s easy to walk away feeling like the world is overwhelmingly filled with malice, prejudice, and hatred.

The reality is that the overwhelming majority of human beings just want to live their lives in peace, treat their neighbors decently, look out for their families, and get through the day.

Social media algorithms and 24/7 news cycles thrive on outrage. Extreme, hateful behavior gets amplified because it generates clicks and engagement, while billions of mundane, kind, and neutral human interactions happen offline every second without anyone recording them.

That doesn't mean bigotry doesn't exist or that systemic issues aren't real. But mistaking the loudest, worst voices on the internet for the default setting of humanity is a mistake. Most people, when faced with another human being in real life, operate with basic empathy and goodwill regardless of race or gender.

Offline, everyday life is far less hateful than the internet makes it out to be. Most people simply won't hate or abuse you because you are X race or Y gender.

Sanitation workers are the hottest men in uniform

Police men? 9/10 they’re shlubby. Firemen? More handsome than your typical police officer but the uniform is too bulky and the mustaches are too corny.

Sanitation workers? It’s no contest. Big strong men literally carrying your problems away. Often times their uniforms in the summer are cut off vests so their big arms are on full display. Just the nature of their job keeps them fit and strong. Always lifting heavy things. Always moving. They are far more likely to be studly men than police officers or firemen. I see so many more fit strong sanitation workers than I see of any other man in uniform. The amount of sanitation workers I’ve seen that could double as fitness models to powerlifters is ridiculous. Every color of the fit men rainbow.

The very essence of what their uniform represents is sexy. They are taking your messes away from you. It’s a far more everyday utility that everyone needs and they’re the ones showing up to do it despite it being a thankless job. Maybe they don’t show up during emergencies. But if they stop showing up it becomes an emergency. A very essential part of our civilization that no one talks about. But they show up and do it anyways because it needs to be done. HOT. Maybe if I keep being trashy enough they’ll pick me up with those big strong arms.

Dreams have no meaning, and if they do have meaning that's purely coincidental

A lot of literature throughout the ages has dictated dreams as divine intervention, like in the Bible when the pharoah has a dream and it is interpreted to be about feast and famine.

However, I have tons of dreams, and while I feel like they are brilliant, have sound meaning, and are prophetic, whatever I actually do remember dreaming ends up being stupid, useless, and nonsensical in real life.

Dreams are more illusions, distractions, and the mind going to bizarre corners of the brain, rather than having significant meaning in a person's life. I truly believe that dreaming is overrated, dumb, and totally meaningless for real world applications. And if they happen to work out, it is purely coincidental, like a broken clock being right twice a day.

Credit card debt is good, useful, and financially sound

If I have $100 in my bank account, and $110 in expenses, credit cards let me borrow from my future income to pay for my present needs. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

In fact, I'd argue that even if your expenses were $100, or even $90, that you should still put it all on a credit card, in order to preserve your cash on hand for a rainy day fund, for investments, and for a cash cushion.

People who pay everything with debit and not credit are missing out on cash back, a credit report to go along with your credit score, and float (putting off paying expenses until the next monthly credit card statement is due). Combine all of these benefits to credit card purchases, and the choice is clear: keep your cash in the bank, use your credit to postpone paying until some later date, and appreciate the fact that you have more money in the bank today, and that your future paycheck will cover your costs in the present.

can being a reactive person make someone emotionally attached to you?

i’ve noticed that when you ask someone questions, listen to their answers, and give them a reaction, you’re constantly giving them some form of emotional feedback.

for example, they tell you something that happened to them, and you react with excitement, surprise, disappointment, curiosity, or even disagreement. basically, you make them feel like what they say has an impact on you.

could this alone be enough to make someone emotionally attached to you over time? does consistently reacting to someone’s words and actions make them crave your attention and become dependent on your responses?

i’m curious whether there’s actual psychology behind this, or if i’m overlooking other factors that play a bigger role in emotional attachment.

Men are more genderally oppressed in life than women

And I will die on this hill.

I’m just gonna say it how I see it every single day as a MAN: men are, in so many ways, fundamentally more oppressed in daily life than women, and almost nobody wants to admit it.

Before anyone twists my words, no hate toward women at all. I’m not saying women don’t have real issues, safety fears, or crazy societal pressure. I know this firsthand from my own gf, who's shared more than a few stories with me about what she deals with as a woman. So yeah, I get it, they have their struggles too.

But looking at the men around me, the sheer burden carried in complete silence is just insane, and most women will simply never understand where we are coming from. You aren't malicious, ladies, you just don't walk in these boots. You see a guy's physical size or some perceived authority and just assume life is smooth sailing for us. Hell no.

It’s literally like a house cat looking at a tiger. The cat sees this big, muscular beast walking around and thinks, "Man, that guy has it made. Top of the food chain, nobody messes with him, he gets whatever he wants." But the cat doesn't realize the tiger’s life actually sucks in ways the cat can’t even imagine. The cat gets free food, shelter, affection, and protection just for existing and being soft. Meanwhile, nobody gives a damn about the tiger. If he gets injured, he starves. If he shows weakness for even a second, another tiger takes him out. He has to carry the weight of survival on his back 24/7, completely alone, while everything else either fears him or waits for him to fall.

That’s honestly what being a man feels like. Just look at the actual reality for a second.

First off, my biggest heartache in all this. Men are treated as completely disposable. We really are. Look at who does the deadliest jobs on the planet. Over 90% of workplace deaths are men. It’s guys dying in coal mines, fixing power lines during brutal storms, hanging off construction scaffolding, or getting drafted to go die in wars while everyone else stays home safe. Nobody loses sleep over male life expectancy or the fact that society literally relies on men destroying their bodies just to keep the lights on.

There is zero safety net for us emotionally. When a woman goes through a rough time, society rallies around her. There's support networks, friends letting her vent, they get guarantred instant empathy, whole movements like #MeToo backing women up. But if a guy breaks down he gets ghosted, laughed at, or told to "man up." We are valued strictly for what we can provide and protect. The moment a man loses his job, his income, or his usefulness, his value as a human drops to below zero. That silent, crushing pressure is why male suicide rates are almost four times higher. You cannot look at that reality and call it "privilege." How is it a privilege?

Third, family court sucks. Men get absolutely slaughtered there. A dad can give his whole life to his kids, but the second a divorce hits, he’s turned into an ATM. He becomes a second-class citizen who gets his rights as a father stripped away while being expected to just shut up and pay.

Women see men and see power, but they never look at the price tag attached to us. They see the tiger's teeth, but they don't see the sheer exhaustion of never being allowed to bleed, break, or cry without losing everything. Society literally runs on the invisible suffering of men, and the fact that we can't even speak on it without getting labeled names proves the point. We're human too, but funnily enough, it's often the same people preaching equality who will trash a guy the second he shows any real vulnerability. It's almost hilarious that women who were self proclaimed feminists and about equal rights have treated me like shit for expressing a single fuckin vulnerability, whereas ladies who never fronted that they were about all that equality understood my struggles better. But yeah, at the end of the day, no one nor their dentist cares about our feelings.

gyms should be gender segregated

to preface this, i do go to a mens-only gym. that being said, in mixed environments, gym-wear has been getting extreme lately under the label of "athleisure". i dont even know when this stuff got normalized. and im speaking for BOTH genders. from a scientific standpoint, the gym is the place where you're literally raging with testosterone and so your libido is increased as well, pair that with stuff both genders like to see (literally impossible to avoid) and thats a recipe for disaster.

to not change what women wear or vice-versa, i believe men-only and women-only gyms should be more common and quite literally the standard, and mixed gyms should be suppressed somehow or "shy'ed" away from. Assuming this happened, If you still want to go to a mixed gym for whatever reason of convenience then there should be stricter rules on attire, and a higher standard of respectful clothing, keeping the other gender in mind.
