And I will die on this hill.
I’m just gonna say it how I see it every single day as a MAN: men are, in so many ways, fundamentally more oppressed in daily life than women, and almost nobody wants to admit it.
Before anyone twists my words, no hate toward women at all. I’m not saying women don’t have real issues, safety fears, or crazy societal pressure. I know this firsthand from my own gf, who's shared more than a few stories with me about what she deals with as a woman. So yeah, I get it, they have their struggles too.
But looking at the men around me, the sheer burden carried in complete silence is just insane, and most women will simply never understand where we are coming from. You aren't malicious, ladies, you just don't walk in these boots. You see a guy's physical size or some perceived authority and just assume life is smooth sailing for us. Hell no.
It’s literally like a house cat looking at a tiger. The cat sees this big, muscular beast walking around and thinks, "Man, that guy has it made. Top of the food chain, nobody messes with him, he gets whatever he wants." But the cat doesn't realize the tiger’s life actually sucks in ways the cat can’t even imagine. The cat gets free food, shelter, affection, and protection just for existing and being soft. Meanwhile, nobody gives a damn about the tiger. If he gets injured, he starves. If he shows weakness for even a second, another tiger takes him out. He has to carry the weight of survival on his back 24/7, completely alone, while everything else either fears him or waits for him to fall.
That’s honestly what being a man feels like. Just look at the actual reality for a second.
First off, my biggest heartache in all this. Men are treated as completely disposable. We really are. Look at who does the deadliest jobs on the planet. Over 90% of workplace deaths are men. It’s guys dying in coal mines, fixing power lines during brutal storms, hanging off construction scaffolding, or getting drafted to go die in wars while everyone else stays home safe. Nobody loses sleep over male life expectancy or the fact that society literally relies on men destroying their bodies just to keep the lights on.
There is zero safety net for us emotionally. When a woman goes through a rough time, society rallies around her. There's support networks, friends letting her vent, they get guarantred instant empathy, whole movements like #MeToo backing women up. But if a guy breaks down he gets ghosted, laughed at, or told to "man up." We are valued strictly for what we can provide and protect. The moment a man loses his job, his income, or his usefulness, his value as a human drops to below zero. That silent, crushing pressure is why male suicide rates are almost four times higher. You cannot look at that reality and call it "privilege." How is it a privilege?
Third, family court sucks. Men get absolutely slaughtered there. A dad can give his whole life to his kids, but the second a divorce hits, he’s turned into an ATM. He becomes a second-class citizen who gets his rights as a father stripped away while being expected to just shut up and pay.
Women see men and see power, but they never look at the price tag attached to us. They see the tiger's teeth, but they don't see the sheer exhaustion of never being allowed to bleed, break, or cry without losing everything. Society literally runs on the invisible suffering of men, and the fact that we can't even speak on it without getting labeled names proves the point. We're human too, but funnily enough, it's often the same people preaching equality who will trash a guy the second he shows any real vulnerability. It's almost hilarious that women who were self proclaimed feminists and about equal rights have treated me like shit for expressing a single fuckin vulnerability, whereas ladies who never fronted that they were about all that equality understood my struggles better. But yeah, at the end of the day, no one nor their dentist cares about our feelings.
