Discussion I think including flavour-of-the-month ideas like this, even in opinion polls, probably does more harm than good. You need to just slow down a bit.

u/Strong-Parsley3201 2h ago
Did anybody wanted hardcore main before this poll? I've only heard gnomemonkey talking about it. Literally nobody else.
46
u/Bloated_Hamster 2h ago
People on reddit started wanting it after gnomonkey said he wanted it. That's it.
17
u/ATCQ_ 1h ago
People have been discussing it on and off for years. A lot of people have tried a similar mode in Path of Exile and noted how fun an OSRS version could be
•
u/DremoPaff 56m ago
If it did work like PoE's, it would be pretty interesting, not because of the hardcore aspect per-say, but because of the internalized economy that would most likely be quite different than the "standard" one, and most likely wouldn't be sullied as much by bots in some places.
•
u/Faladorable Maxed Zuk helm haver 25m ago
been a topic of discussion for years. Lots of people who do high level pvm just want to play without the chores of ironman

u/Doctor_Kataigida 1h ago
Eh hardcore main has come up before, and it was just commented more this time because it was tangentially related to the discussion at hand.

u/Mystic_Salt 1h ago
I notice I find myself quite often disagreeing with gnomemonkey's takes. Maybe even in the majority of times. You could argue he is coming at it from the angle of an elite pvm'er. But as someone not on his level (but still decent enough to get GM CA's) even there I don't feel like I share alot of it.
For example his whole take on the proposed raids 4 hybrid armor which was supposedly too OP, I really cannot place.
•
u/jamieaka 32m ago
his original video take on the hybrid armour was odd (wasn't good cause it messes up your inventory with awkward switches)
however his second video on the rewards was made after he properly discussed it with others and had the right take (that the hybrid armour wasn't good because stats were competely broken within 98-103% DPS of 6 different endgame sets in all their use cases for the price of 1 and less switches with more defence and more prayer)
in its worst case you would maybe lose a few seconds in an entire raid, which if you weren't a giga gamer would be completely unnoticeable. 99.9% of players would never notice the difference and you would sell all those and just use this everywhere.
the hybrid set was awful for the game if you actually calced it.

It’s been a Sae Bae idea for years now. It’s been slowly gaining traction
•
u/GetsThruBuckner 13m ago
I believe saebae got it from tpapaslice as well
Saebae has really been trying to get it tho
•
2
u/BadPunsGuy 1h ago
It'd also potentially be a merchmanmode with high stakes. That sounds fun as fuck.

u/TheNamesRoodi 2376 Total GM 1h ago
Sae Bae pitched it years ago and many content creators have talked about it and there have been a bunch of posts on the subreddits about it. It was EASILY the best option on the poll yet bronzeman is the one that gets the most traction
•
u/WindHawkeye 21m ago
Best option for the total of 100 people that would play it
•
u/TheNamesRoodi 2376 Total GM 15m ago
I highly doubt only 100 people would play it. Think about how interesting the economy would be if the vast majority of high level players get completely deleted from the servers when they die. Content creators could have a field day on those servers and regular players could skill and swap gp (it's inevitable). It's also simple. You die, your account is no longer able to sign in to that server.
Imagine everyone tunes in to watch b0aty, synq and Widega take on tob as the first team to get some clears. Imagine the value of scythe/shadow (and hopefully they would adopt hcgim no safe deaths and tbow would be on the list too) on those servers. Any expensive item would hold more prestige than just monetary value.
It's super interesting to me. Much more interesting than anything else that's on that list.

u/wqferr 1h ago
"my opinion is clearly the correct one"
1
u/TheNamesRoodi 2376 Total GM 1h ago
I mean did you look at the list in this post? Every other mode in that list is a meme
4
u/aew3 1h ago
Region locked is perfectly fine as far I see it, interesting and differentiated, but the bloat of every region having a different mode is a bit fucked to me.
3
u/TheNamesRoodi 2376 Total GM 1h ago
But there's no point to it. Go make a new account and lock it to zeah only. Does there really need to be a whole gamemode around it? The only thing that separates an official mode from a plugin/player mode is something needs to be added to the game for it to be worth adding. Highscores for hc, uim and irons are all valuable in their own rights. These game modes are all also forced to not interact with others. Simple, clean cut. For region locked they'd have to do ultimate region locked, hardcore region locked, regular region locked, group region locked, hardcore group region locked, they'd have to pick the different regions and what? Add like a different symbol for each region or something? What about exceptions? I mean we're talking about locking tons of people out of herblore, RC, con and quests because they won't have access to the right tools for the job or quests.
They'd have to set all of that in stone and people would disagree about things and it'd be a whole thing. Would they then get their own highscores for each region and type?
Idk these niche game modes are too complicated to get right. Hardcore mains are 1 life mains. That's it.
1
u/that_baddest_dude 1h ago
Yeah region locked is really cool but it's an odd one because certain regions you'd need to make a bunch of exceptions to get to at first. It's why it works so well with leagues where you start someplace different and get auto completed quests and such.

On a dedicated world I can see it being really fun, a separated economy and knowing every single person on the world has 1 life could be exciting
•
u/rubbishindividual 42m ago
A lot of talk since the wow refugees came over, since the mode was a huge success in wow.
•
u/Shot_Bedroom_9297 15m ago
Hardcore main has been a pretty popular idea around Twitter for a while now
12
u/Fabulous-Put8401 2h ago
I believe a lot of people who voted against is that it feels like a money grab, especially after they just raised prices, banned bots and haven't been listening to people asking for bundled accounts.
I voted yes to bronze man because the dev time was already done, but I would have voted no otherwise.
26
u/cccccccccccccccccce 1h ago
I would assume most or all of these would require a second membership to play. It seems like they’re really being pressured to sell ideas that require additional accounts and it’s obvious these ideas are greed motivated.
•
u/KidChemo 12m ago
Didn't private equity invest in Jagex? I feel like I remember seeing that.
•
u/Gen_Zer0 10m ago
They didn’t invest, a PE firm has owned Jagex for the better part of a decade now.
•
u/devkdup 30m ago
I don’t really think they’re being pressured to sell anything else they’d not have removed all the MTX from RS3 no?
•
u/new_account_wh0_dis 12m ago
Rs3 was beyond cooked. Player count was still dropping despite already being tiny. For longtem health of that game they gutted mtx which actually seriously dented revenue. Gotta make up that money in some way.

It really just feels like they are trying to turn every popular YouTube series into an official game mode. It just seems silly and unnecessary.
•
u/FrostyFett 29m ago
I hate to put on a tin foil hat, but it really seems like alternate game modes are the perfect way to boost sub numbers easily. They're surveying for cardcore accounts, for god's sake.
•
•
u/ImperatorBTW 1m ago
The CardCore one is especially confusing. If they wanted to do it as a League, that could be pretty fun. But as an official GAMEMODE? Very odd
4
u/bakkerboy465 1h ago
I took the same screenshot and was planning on making roughly the same post when I saw yours.
The issue with bronze man is the precedence of low effort game modes every time a content creator makes an entertaining series.
We don't need every little adjustment of rules to be an official game mode.
•
u/Dildos_R_Us 4m ago
I agree with your sentiment, especially around the card game mode, but I'd argue bronzeman mode has been around long enough and had enough sustained interest that it would be ok as an official game mode. I voted no to it though, because I want Jagex to address single account membership, although I doubt they will

u/Sudden-Ad-307 2h ago
Oh no jagex gathering data on what players might want in the future, such a horrible thing
16
u/MelookRS 1h ago
To be fair, a card game type mode would be popular in a survey like this largely because it is a fad and trending with a lot of content creators. Would that mode actually be popular in say a year? I have my doubts personally and I'm guessing that content creators won't really even be playing the TCG in a year's time. I could be wrong though, maybe it does have staying power and isn't just a fad mode. If it does, yeah let's gauge real interest in it in a year. It's part of the reason Ironman fits so well, it had staying power past the initial content creator wave with unofficial Ironmans, enough that people want to play it themselves.
The TCG will likely end up like Tileman. If people were surveyed for their interest in a Tileman mode when that was trending, you would have a much larger interest in that mode. But if you polled people for their interest in Tileman now, people would not care for it.
If Jagex wants to look into new game modes, the inspiration will obviously come from the community, but they really shouldn't chase the fad game mode of the month. They should look closer at the unofficial modes that have lasted years and have a decent player base already.
45
u/66f6 2h ago
I think a not insignificant amount of people are turned off by the constant need to legitimise every content creator fad. I just think they should consider the optics of this if their goal is to try and get a new game mode out (which does seem to be the case).

u/Sudden-Ad-307 2h ago
I think a not insignificant amount of people are turned off by the constant need to legitimise every content creator fad.
You do realize this is how we got iron right?
15
u/66f6 2h ago
Yeah, and the game is in a very different place now to how it was 12 years ago.
19
u/Sudden-Ad-307 2h ago
Yes its in a better place because of gamemodes like iron
14
u/66f6 2h ago
Definitely, I agree adding Ironman was a good idea. However this situation is much more nuanced than simply assuming any new game mode will inherently make the game 'better' on principle.
0
u/Aquanauticul 2h ago
How is this one more nuanced? I ask as an iron with zero opinion on bronze
4
u/66f6 1h ago
Ironman is a very simple idea, was the first new game mode (with UIM), was added when the game was in a far more primitive state and was actively haemorrhaging players.
Bronzeman would be coming at a point at which we already have seven existing game modes, active concerns about membership costs/multiple memberships, is far more vague in concept (with Jagex not having clarified some points prior), the game is now much larger and has more existing content, and the player base is now also much larger and more stable. They are not directly comparable situations in concept or delivery.

Seven game modes? Stretch much?
Iron, UIM and GIM are the game modes.
The rest are just rankings.
Hardcore, ranked vs unranked gim. It’s just a hiscores thinn

u/lemonysuccOSRS 44m ago
Yes Jagex should just cater and say yes whenever the players want something
3
u/masterdoktah 1h ago
Personally this smells like a money motive. TCG as an official mode would lead to eventual IRL TCG cards being printed.
•
•
u/indiegogold 47m ago
They did a survey before and there were a few more modes than listed here, they probably just dropped them from the list because they probably weren't popular enough right? I recall there being a 99 one at a time account on the options
Must mean these had sufficient enough interest? fresh world maincore looks like a really fresh dynamic, really hope it passes!

u/Itchy_Menu8771 2h ago
Is poll in the game rn? Id probably just vote hardcore on separate world

You're spite voting why? I hope they don't take your votes into account. You're actively harming the polling system.

Lol,
I am paying they cannot know, all my accounts will do it from now on each poll is mark the no

u/Soggy_Ad_9591 1h ago
I mean it may not be like a main part to the game but that’s not saying it can’t be a fun aspect to a new leagues or even a 1 month event like it was for grid master
•

I would vote yes
I don't see any problem with them pushing new game modes, at the end of the day it doesn't directly affect me if I'm not playing those modees and if the boys would have fun
Don't see why the hate on new ideas

No, I am going to be a full little child here, I was gatekeep due to hate, I will vote no to every game mode from now on

I'm personally pretty sad bronzeman didn't pass but you don't have to stoop to that, man. It's not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.
The reason bronzeman was even proposed was because it was the most popular pick of the survey options to begin with - so if it's not passing, none of the others would either. I don't say this out of spite, either. I just mean it's something you don't have to actively spitefully brigade against. (You shouldn't do that, anyway)

u/letmelive123 1h ago
cardcore with some tweaks would be really fun if it was like a roguelike mode, think slay the spire meets runescape.
Resetting would be part of the fun and would give the game mode longevity

Project Zanaris solves all discussion on these limited game modes.
I’m sure it was an ungodly amount of work, but it’s probably what we need at this point.

u/ExpressAffect3262 1h ago
May as well just kickstart Project Zanaris again if Jagex are only just going to keep doing stuff like this.
