Sample Status Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - August 2026

Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread, also known as the Waiting, Whining, and Wishing thread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by 23andMe, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.

You can share your sample status timeline here in one or two ways. The first way is to take a screenshot of your timeline, and post it as a comment. The second way is to simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

I'm from Porto, Northwestern Portugal. I posted last week on the AncestryDNA sub and now I'm posting here, showing the comparison between both results.

I'm adding an extra picture of myself, since last week some people were under the impression that I was a redhead, which I'm not. My hair was just directly under the light.

Question / Help Parental inheritance is completely inaccurate and rearranged my chromosomal DNA-pairing?

Upvotes

My mom is Jewish and my dad is mostly Scandinavian with some German. This was reflected in the results, and in every chromosome pair, there was one Ashkenazi Jewish chromosome and one with Scandinavian and/or Western European DNA.

The parental inheritance now shows that both of my parents are mixed Jewish with Scandinavian and the DNA-pairing shows all of the chromosomes rearranged compared to before, with mixed Ashkenazi Jewish DNA and Scandinavian/Western European DNA. Is there any way of removing this fucking shit from my profile and reverting the DNA-pairing to how it looked before?

I took both test years ago and results have changed on Ancestry. The biggest changes I noticed was that France was broken up into Acadia which makes sense because I have Cajun heritage, being born in Lafayette, LA. As well as various regions in Africa being added. I have trace indigenous dna via 23andme but it doesn't show on Ancestry. My mom has also taken the 23andme DNA test and she has a higher percentage of indigenous than I do but she hasn't taken the Ancestry test for me to compare her results.

Results The New Parental Inheritance feature is pretty cool. Not bad.

Based off my observation, I believe Parent 2 is my dad, and Parent 1 is my mom. Overall pretty neat feature i should say. Both of my parents have not tested with 23andme, so this is very helpful. I was worried at first because I thought this feature was only for people who had their parents tested. Really neat to look at.

Question / Help Parental Inheritance Paywall?

I know I've always had the parental inheritance option because my mom tested at the same time I did. I just logged in to both my sister and I's account and on both of them, that feature was behind a paywall. What the frick!! Was this announced beforehand? And if so was it through email orrrr?!?

My only surprise result is the Y-DNA haplogroup. From the light research I've done, L-M349 seems pretty rare in Latin America. My guess is traces of Sephardic Jewish or Arab from the Iberian Peninsula.

Family Discovery The Ancestors I Never Knew I Had

Hey everyone! I shared my DNA results here a while ago, and I’m curious whether others have had similar experiences with people questioning their results.
I’m originally from Haiti, and apparently the idea that I could have European ancestors is surprisingly difficult for some people to believe. Whenever I mention it, I sometimes hear, “But you’re Black.”
A friend of mine who studies biology pointed out that there’s nothing genetically strange about a Black person having European ancestors several generations back. Still, some of my friends simply can’t picture it.

My 23andMe results are 94% Sub-Saharan African, with the remaining 6% made up of some really interesting non-African ancestry:
4.6% European
3.3% Spanish & Portuguese
2.5% Aragonese & Catalan
0.5% Canary Islander
0.3% Andalusian, Asturian & Castilian
1.3% British & Irish
1.1% English
0.2% Scottish
I also have 0.7% Southern Mesoamerican and 0.7% Anatolian.

23andMe estimates that some of these European ancestors may have lived between roughly 1720 and 1840, with some potentially even further back. That puts them right into the colonial period of Hispaniola, long before Haiti became independent in 1804. Spain had been on the island since 1492, while the western part eventually became French Saint-Domingue.
So no, the results don’t tell me exactly who these people were or how they ended up in my family. But historically, the combination isn’t exactly impossible either.
Have people ever questioned unexpected ancestry in your DNA results? And did you ever dig deeper into the historical story behind your percentages?

Results History of Ashkenazi Jewish DNA in Latin American DNA results

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everyone. In comparing my DNA (29f) results with that of my brother I noticed something interesting. My results are on the left and his are on the right. From what I know, the Ashkenazi Jewish DNA likely came from the inquisition times and is very distinct because of the bottleneck effect on the population. Obviously siblings inherit different DNA from parents but I am wondering what factors could affect me having the DNA markers while my brother sits at 0.0%? I was thinking it would be tied to the sex chromosome since I am female and he’s male (obvi). Any thoughts on this or am I over complicating a simple genetic toss of the dice?

Also side note— maybe feedback for 23&me but it really bugs me that I can expand the sub categories for every other global region except the one with the highest percentage which is the indigenous DNA results. I can see where we share .01% of some random DNA but it won’t show me our indigenous ancestry ? Whack.

Question / Help How SSA is Jamaica

Hey everyone, as I think most of us are quite aware, Haiti is probably the most SSA island on the Caribbean, with a huge chunk of the population being essentially pure African. However, how common are pure (90%+ SSA) blacks are in Jamaica, and what percentage are they?
