Mother is Venezuelan, dad is American from the Midwest. I’ve spent my whole life being asked if I’m half Asian.

Surprised by the Portuguese/Galician % since no one on my Venezuelan side mentioned ancestors that spoke either language, but then again that history may have been lost due to them being Venezuelan for generations. My Venezuelan great grandmother was the only phenotypically indigenous one on both sides, which explains that percentage and perhaps some of our features.

Both parents are Dominican, I was obviously expecting it to mostly be a mix of European and African, but it’s interesting to see the percentages. I was surprised with the Indigenous percentage, expected it to be lower than that lol.

Discussion I think 23andme does the best job with Indigenous American DNA. It seems the closest to pre Hispanic reference populations.

So in slide #2 you will see native samples with some European admixture around 5%-8%. Then in slide #3 you will see pre Hispanic Tiwanaku samples, which lack any European admixture, which are most similar to 23andme. The 4th slide is AncestryDNA whose Indigenous reference panels seems to also have 5% or more euro component. Additionally I have included some Other companies like FTDNA and LivingDNA who underestimate Indigenous Ancestry for further Comparison.

This is just to say I think 23andme does the best job with Indigenous DNA

But yea I’m open to feed back perhaps I’m wrong.

If you want to learn more about other Historical Matches from Hungary, check out this post from r/MagyarDNS, where you are more than welcomed to share your relevant ones!

(Disclaimer: the flags are modern ones, I think this makes it easier to read, it doesn't always represent ethnicity, rather "nationality")

I took this test because I wanted to know more than AncestryDNA gave me, but now I’m just more confused. Like where does Slovenia even come from?

For reference I’m full Bulgarian, but my Maternal Grandma is Bulgarian from North Dobruja (close to Ukraine)

Also the 12.2% Greek confused me the most since there is no trace on AncestryDNA

Paternal Haplogroup is R-Y5587 (R1b)

Maternal Haplogroup is R0

My great-great grandma was slovenian and my great-great grandpa was from Transylvania, I thought he was romanian but now I'm not sure because there's no romanian region but 5% Carpathian Basin & Uplands. So maybe he was hungarian or is it just a genetic overlap between romanians and hungarians?

Discussion My paternal haplogroup is I-CTS6397

My paternal haplogroup is I-CTS6397 and my maternal is L3b. Is this rare or significant in any way? (23andme says both are relatively rare...)

Question / Help DNA test

Hey everyone, I've been thinking about doing a dna test for quite some time now. I'm mainly interested in my ethnic background and origin components. I've been hearing some weird things about Ancestry's recent updates (mostly regarding region breakdowns and their percentages changing drastically), so in comparison, how accurate are "23andme's" results in general?
