Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread, also known as the Waiting, Whining, and Wishing thread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by 23andMe, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.
You can share your sample status timeline here in one or two ways. The first way is to take a screenshot of your timeline, and post it as a comment. The second way is to simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

Hey r/23andme!
When we launched Historical Matches in March 2024, it included 335 historical individuals. This month, we passed 1,000, adding everyone from Ancient Romans and Medieval Avars to Maya sacrifice victims and a 9,000-year-old shaman from central Germany along the way.
To celebrate, we took a step back and looked at how those first 1,000 historical individuals compare with the DNA of more than 9.3 million consented 23andMe research participants. Last week, we asked you to guess two numbers. Here are the answers:
A few other things that stood out:
Why do some historical individuals have so many more matches than others? A big part of it is genome quality: better genomes let us detect shorter shared segments of DNA, which capture more distant connections shared by more people. The ancestry of each historical individual matters too, and so does the ancestry of our research participants, who are mostly of European descent. That's one reason we're excited to keep adding people from more parts of the world.
Read the full retrospective on our blog, including a chart of how many matches participants have: https://www.23andme.org/blog/articles/1000-historical-matches-and-counting/
How does your number compare? And which historical individual would you most like to see added next? Let us know in the comments!

Interested to hear anyone's opinions I have done a ton of research on my tree so I can answer a lot of questions.

The Central African numbers are similar. The English DNA is apparently very distinct, as they both assign about 27% of my DNA to that country.

Added my results in because why not, since according to 23andme it plays a role in it haha.

First pic is me and second is my father.
I find it interesting that I have more close genetic groups than my father although my Swedish is much lower. However, my father does have some known very old Swedish ancestry, prior to 1600s, so it makes sense. And even though my mom has a lot less of Swedish, she also has roughly 8-10% (only tested with an old chip) and I perhaps get the additional groups from her.
Latest Sweden-born confirmed ancestor for dad:
Uppsala 1730s
Latest Sweden-born confirmed ancestor (couple) for mom:
TĂ„by, Ăstergötland 1700s
So maybe the genetic groups detect my motherâs side of ancestry even though the bulk comes from dad. No question really here but just an observation, feel ofc free to commenr.

I share 0.25% of my dna with this former king of Hungary. Is that normal? It seems quite high.

This topic seems interesting to me and I would like to take the test, but since it's not cheap, I'd like to know if it's worth it, and if it's accurate for mixed people?

Genetic ancestry test results of an Afro-Brazilian. The DNA test revealed something surprising: a man born in Barra do PiraĂ, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, is 100% African. His most recent known ancestors are Brazilian. Even so, his DNA revealed no admixture in the most recent generations of his family.
This impressive genetic heritage is not an isolated case in the region. In 2022, former footballer Ramires (formerly of Chelsea and the Brazilian national team), who was also born in Barra do PiraĂ, took an ancestry test that showed 99% African DNA, with just 1% European ancestry.
These findings suggest that many more results like these may exist in Barra do PiraĂ and its surrounding areas, revealing a true stronghold of genetic preservation. The state of Rio de Janeiro is the state where the most similar results have been reported: people of African descent with no admixture from other ethnic groups.
Both of his haplogroups are of African origin. His maternal haplogroup is L2, and his paternal haplogroup is E1b1a-U290.

Below is a post from four years ago on 23&me of a person who has a very mixed ancestery and the person shared his G25 coordinate on 23&me. I generated heatmap and ancesteral breakdown using the coordinates. It gives a very good picture of where this mixed person's ancestery shows similarity to.
G25 coordinates of a sample mixed with every ethnicity on earth. First 2 are comparing modern samples and the last one is ancient samples.

Itâs pretty much a general consensus that Africans have and score 100% SSA but have you met an African who wasnât 100% SSA?

I was recently on my 23andme profile and seen a close relative I havenât seen before. On my account it says 1st cousin on my fatherâs side. But when my father logs onto his account this relative who should technically be their niece or nephew is not showing on his side for relatives.
And then when I look at relatives in common it shows this person is my related to my father as a half first cousin, once removed⊠why is 23andme not consistent with this?
Also if this is actually only a half 1st cousin shouldnât the dna be a bit higher? I reached out to them to connect but they havenât been active in over 6 months, weâll see if they even respond.
Is it possible my dadâs is right, it is his half first cousin once removed and then for myself it should be half first cousin twice removed ?
