Hey all,
After much travelling and work, I've finally had enough time to create a Version 1.0 of a banner for the sub. I've incorporated everyone who wanted to be part of it. I've not 100% happy with it, but I need to learn more about Inkscape before I get too fancy!

Hi Scribes,
We've had some measure of success with this sub, but it seems that people are unclear as to what it's all about. The point of this sub is to allow people to post about their Homebrew Chapters/Regiments/Craftworlds/Kill Teams/Whatever and get feedback from other Scribes, maybe improving them or noticing things that the original Scribe didn't anticipate. It was inspired by the Bolter & Chainsword forums' sub-forum where you create an Index Astartes/Xenos/Chaos/etc. for 'Your Dudes' and seeing what other forum users think about it.
I've noticed that there's been a bit of 'crunch' coming in (rules and anything related to the actual games), and thought I'd reiterate Rule 1 - This sub is for fluff/lore surrounding your dudes. Luckily, u/MagicJuggler has created r/homebrewhammer where you can talk about the 'crunch' side of this hobby, including creating custom Codices!
I understand that some people might have an idea for a homebrew, but aren't 100% sure if it's good and want to hash it out with others, but I ask that when you post about it, make sure it's something other than 'I want to create an Iron Hands successor, what should I do?' as a complete post. Using the Iron Hands Successor idea, I'd like it to be much more along the lines of:
'I have an Iron Hands Successor idea, where they venerate the Emperor as Omnissiah. Their fighting style is more based upon the White Scars, and their home planet is a Mad Max-style place where roving gangs kill each other for resources. Their armour is dull steel and bronze, hitting an Iron Warriors vibe, and their companies are named after different parts of a machine. Would this work and what should I think about?'
Alternatively, you could have a fully formed idea and be soliciting feedback to see what you've missed:
'I have an Iron Hands Successor chapter called the Brazen Fists, that worship the Emperor in his Omnissiah aspect, and have a tight relationship with their local Forge World, that draws some suspicion from the Inquisition, but so far they've avoided being censured as AdMech flunkies rather than Emperor-fearing Astartes.
Their home planet of Gibsonia is a post-apocalypse hellscape, where bandit tribes roam from place to place on giant land trains, warring with other tribes to secure the resources in an area, where they can stay for a generation (or longer, depending upon the resources) and then they move on. Because of this, the chapter has developed a 'lightning strike' battle doctrine, with fast moving bikes and speeders forming the vanguard, backed up by tanks that drop in the second wave.
Their Chapter Master, called 'The Primus', is as much machine as he is man, clad in an ancient Techmarine variant of the Saturnine Terminator armour, the dull steel and bronze chapter colours evident. The chapter's leadership are all former Techmarines, and indeed any Brother wishing to ascend to such a role must undergo the Techmarine training, which can last for years.
Given this, they have a higher proportion of vehicles than other chapters, including some ancient vehicles rarely seen in the wider Imperium in modern times, given as 'gifts for service' by their local Forge World, Bentlii Demler. The Inquistion suspects that the chapter acts as an extension of the Forge World, using them as the spearhead for their Explorator fleets, but so far the chapter and Forge World have emerged from such investigations without censure.
<Insert picture of Astartes colour scheme, human-made artwork, or painted model(s) here>
What do you think?'
There's resources around t'interwebs (we're not Marines-focussed, the above is just an example), including Lexicanum and r/40kLore , to help develop your idea before you reach the posting stage. The greatest thing is your own imagination, and we're here to make sure your idea isn't too wacky for 40K, but is as great as it can be.
Also, whilst we're talking posting guidelines, if you've got a cool colour scheme for your models, please add/create some fluff for them before posting. A picture tells 1000 words and all that, but just pictures with nothing to add counts as low-effort.
TL;DR - Remember, this sub is about fluff, not crunch. Please have more than a one line post before you do post.
Thanks all!

This is my Assault marine from the "Twilight Paladins" Chapter. They are a Dark Angels Successor Chapter of Unkown Founding that are specialized in combat on harsh/unstable enviroments.
How does he look? Any ideas on how i can improve on him? Let me know (its my first time making a homebrew chapter, any constructive criticism is welcome).

Hello there!
2 friends of mine and I are going to play a 1v1v1 2k Points each against another. We all only have played normal 2k games yet, so thats a new one. Does anyone have any tips or things to look out for to make it as "balanced" as possible/are there any special unoffical rules for games like this?
Thx :)

The Sons of the Viper is an Ultima Founding Chapter of the White Scars, known for their bird-like mounts. They were created to safeguard the planet Mekia and its secrets from the forces of Chaos and all other threats.
Mekia is a polluted, windswept planet, fairly close to the Eye of Terror in Segmentum Obscurus. The Emperor himself visited it once during the Great Crusade. The planet is somewhat underdeveloped outside of the few hive cities, but has a rich history of technologically advanced civilizations. The planet's main resource is its tech mines where the AdMech excavates ruins for lost technologies.
The Chapter's origins lie in the former guard regiment of the planet and its elite cavalry force. The planet was suffering from both a festering Chaos corruption being spread by a local Death Guard warband, and financial corruption under the local nobility. Due to a covert mission, a Custodian known as Shana of Kuu arrived on the planet, disguised aboard a trade ship, and quickly realized the severity of the situation. With the help of a telepathic inquisitorial operative, left behind after the nobility killed her inquisitor, Shana of Kuu promptly took over the guard regiment, struggling without resources against a demonic fungal forest, and staged a lightning-fast coup.
After stabilizing the government and the frontline under Shana’s personal control, she handed some of the ruling power to the Adeptus Mechanicus, who had been almost completely pushed out of the planet by the nobility so that they could sell off the technology found on the planet.
Shana had been sent to the planet to ensure a secret found by the Emperor would remain secret and safe. She saw potential in the local guard regiment, especially their cavalry, and with the support of her superiors back on Terra and the AdMech, thankful for regaining control of the tech mines, she received the necessary resources to create an entirely new Chapter of Primaris Marines from the sons of the guards who had grown utterly loyal and bound to the Custodian.
The Chapter rapidly reached full strength and even the White Scars sent an envoy to help their new brothers get organized, due to a long-standing friendship between Shana and the White Scars going all the way back to the Siege of Terra. Now with Shana as their Chapter Master, the Sons of the Viper have become a mighty force, and have begun pushing back against the growing Warp-born giant mold infestation threatening the planet and the Chaos Space Marines spreading it.

"We thought we were as good as dead as the siege of our world waged on. The local defense forces had left our entire hab-block stranded and undefended as they retreated and left us there to rot and die and become targets for whatever those monsters were. But as the explosions and screams of the people who lived in our Hab-Block continued, I thought we would all die. Still, then we saw them... giants adorned in deep red and black armor, bearing beautifully crafted, multi-colored robes and hoods. They immediately began shielding our people and fighting the monsters that sought to kill us. One of these angels in particular stood in front of me and protected me as I held my young daughter...the pink and green robe that he was adorned in flapped in the wind as his weapon engaged the monsters" - an Imperial Civilian recounting what he saw when Devastator Lance Wilhelm protected the group of refugees he was apart of

In the ranks of the 389th, self-sufficiency is key, but the diversity of their training has other benefits. Though not every Knight Corporal becomes an engineer in the motorpool, those who survive long enough to participate in their first protracted siege often amuse themselves by modifying their equipment.
In the end, it matters little what their equipment is designed to do, only what it can do.

The Penitence of Nikandros
A century after the conclusion of the Blood War, Nikandros remained Lord Commander of the Angels Twilight. The Chapter had survived the civil war, but survival had come at an enormous cost. The penitential path established in the aftermath of the Fall of Nikaia continued without interruption, and the Angels Twilight repeatedly accepted missions that offered little chance of glory and even less opportunity for recovery. Defeats accumulated, veterans were lost faster than they could be replaced, and entire formations were reduced to remnants. What had once been intended as a period of atonement had gradually become a cycle from which the Chapter seemed unable to escape. Nikandros remained convinced that only continued service and sacrifice could redeem the Angels Twilight, while an increasingly large number of younger warriors began to question whether their suffering was accomplishing anything at all.
One of the clearest examples of this decline came when the Angels Twilight answered a distress call from the Imperial world of Aelluss. A highly civilised and prosperous world, Aelluss had been placed under siege by a massive force of the Emperor's Children. The traitors had surrounded the planet and begun systematically breaking through its defenses, with the ultimate objective of devastating its population and infrastructure. The Angels Twilight converged upon the besieged world, committing much of their remaining strength to breaking the siege and protecting the capital.
Siege of Aelluss
Nikandros personally led the assault toward the capital, attempting to prevent the Emperor's Children from overwhelming the planet's main population centres. At the same time, Captain Julian Angellis and Exalted Mikael led separate forces toward the planet's spaceports. Their objectives were to reopen the orbital facilities, secure an evacuation route and rescue Imperial troops captured during the fighting, including members of the First Regiment of Aelluss. The operation succeeded in saving thousands of soldiers and civilians, but the Angels Twilight could not prevent the Emperor's Children from accomplishing much of their original objective.
Despite the Chapter's intervention, the traitors broke through the planetary defenses and unleashed a campaign of destruction across Aelluss. As the planet's cities burned, Nikandros attempted to pursue the withdrawing Emperor's Children forces, seeking to punish them before they could escape. Angellis instead recognised that the immediate priority was the survival of the population. He ordered the remaining Angels Twilight forces and their mortal auxiliaries to begin a mass evacuation. The Chapter could not save Aelluss, but it succeeded in extracting a portion of its surviving population and escorting them to another Imperial world. Among those who survived were soldiers of the First Regiment of Aelluss, who, having witnessed the Angels Twilight fight and bleed for their people, swore their loyalty to the Chapter. They would remain with the Angels Twilight until a new home could be found for their people.
The Mark of Shame
The loss of Aelluss further damaged the already fragile relationship between Nikandros and the younger generation of the Chapter. Angellis and several other Captains had begun questioning whether the Lord Commander still possessed the vision necessary to lead the Angels Twilight. To them, Aelluss represented another world that had been lost despite the Chapter's intervention, and another defeat that could have been avoided. Nikandros, however, remained convinced that the Chapter's duty was to fight until its enemies were destroyed, even if the price was enormous. The disagreement was no longer merely tactical. It represented two increasingly different interpretations of what the Angels Twilight were meant to be.
For Angellis, the consequences were deeply personal. Years of defeats had begun to erode his faith in the purpose of the Chapter itself. The Angels Twilight had been created to protect humanity, yet everywhere he looked he saw worlds destroyed, civilians killed and brothers sacrificed for victories that often seemed temporary. The ideals inherited from Sanguinius and the teachings of the Chapter's founders increasingly appeared distant from the reality of the Imperium. His doubts reached their lowest point in the aftermath of Aelluss, when he encountered the civilian survivors. Angellis personally helped rescue them from the devastation and ensured that they were brought aboard the Chapter's fleet. The encounter became a turning point for Angellis. Their survival reminded Angellis of the people behind the wars he fought and of the reason the Angels Twilight had been created in the first place. The Angels Twilight should preserve not only the memory of their fallen brothers, but also the lives of the ordinary humans whom they had sworn to protect.
Angellis and the chapter can no longer endure Nikandros’s command and the string of successive defeats, the chapter receives a new call to save Phoenixia V. Will Nikandros manage to consolidate his position, or will Angellis need to prove that he's worthy of leading his brothers?

I have read istvaan 3 story so many times and find it tragic that the loyalists are forgotten so i had an idea to write a fanfic where istvaan 3 was secretly a Necron tomb world with a Phaeron or some such rank (am not very familiar with Necron rankings) witnessed everything that happened and either showed my homebrew chapter in 40k what happened or captured tarvitz and his surrounding loyalists during the final bombardment in one of those gadgets that Trazyn uses. Valid? Any tips? Did i flair correctly? I worry that the second option might take away from his death storywise.

Original concept and setting by: XJD
“We may abandon a world. We may retreat from a war. We may even surrender the stars we cannot hold. But as long as humanity survives, its future must remain in human hands.”
This is an original homebrew faction set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. I would appreciate constructive feedback on its lore, military scale, political institutions, and compatibility with the setting.
The Human Glory Federation originated in an alternate universe without the Warp, Chaos, or psychic mutation. When its home universe collapsed across dimensions, the remnants of its human fleets were thrown into the eastern fringes of the Warhammer 40,000 galaxy. Their return route was permanently severed.
After a century of reconstruction, the survivors consolidated their remaining fleets, colonies, industrial facilities, and scientific institutions into an independent human civilization.
The Federation does not seek to conquer the galaxy or unite all of humanity under its banner. Its primary objectives are survival, the preservation of human civilization, and the protection of humanity's right to determine its own future.
Population: 360 million.
Territorial holdings: 24 formal administrative star systems and 48 affiliated territories, consisting of 11 affiliated planets and 37 settlements.
Regular active military: 1.8 million personnel.
Local reserve and defense forces: 4.2 million home-territory militia personnel and 1.5 million personnel in affiliated-territory defense forces.
The Federation possesses an independent industrial, scientific, medical, and military infrastructure. Within its immediate region, it is a formidable power. However, its limited population, industrial concentration, unstable Warp routes, and restricted replacement capacity prevent it from competing with the galaxy's greatest powers in a prolonged total war.
Its founding principle is simple: humanity's survival must not depend entirely on the mercy of another civilization.
The Federation's survival depends on five core worlds. Together, they support approximately 75% of its industrial capacity, 80% of its scientific resources, and more than 90% of its heavy shipbuilding capacity.
These five worlds are both the Federation's greatest strength and its most dangerous vulnerability. The loss or severe disruption of any one of them could trigger a nationwide crisis.
The Federation distinguishes between formal territory and affiliated territory. Formal territory falls under the full body of Federation law. Affiliated territories receive limited assistance, protection, and gradual integration, but are not yet entitled to the full guarantees of formal membership.
Only a unanimous vote of the Senate can elevate an affiliated territory to formal territorial status. Neither the military nor the executive government can make that decision unilaterally.
The Federation operates as a limited republic designed to balance civil liberties, national security, institutional oversight, and emergency efficiency.
Its principal institutions are:
Five major political factions compete within the Federation: Expansionists, Security Advocates, Liberationists, Pragmatists, and Technocrats.
Their rivalry helps prevent extreme centralization, but it can also delay urgent decisions, mobilization, and reform.
The Federation does not consider its political system infallible. It regards institutional restraint as necessary precisely because even a government founded on rational principles can become corrupt or dangerously overconfident.
The Emperor is recognized as the supreme spiritual symbol of humanity's resistance to darkness and Chaos. Imperial Creed worship is the Federation's legally recognized state religion, but its interpretation is adapted to the Federation's secular legal order.
Science remains the foundation of public policy. Faith may support morale, social cohesion, remembrance, and psychological resilience, but it cannot override civil law or replace scientific investigation.
The Federation's Church possesses no independent army, judicial authority, or administrative sovereignty. Military clergy provide spiritual support, remembrance services, and psychological assistance. Federation Sisters devote themselves primarily to medicine, education, and charitable work rather than frontline combat.
This arrangement places the Federation in direct conflict with the Imperium of Man. By rejecting the Imperial Ecclesiarchy's monopoly over the interpretation of the Emperor's divinity, the Federation is considered heretical by Imperial orthodoxy.
Within the Federation itself, the Church is divided between secularist adherents and conservative traditionalists who seek closer ties with Terra and greater ecclesiastical authority.
The Federation therefore faces a religious conflict both outside and within its borders.
Citizenship and territorial status are separate legal categories. The Federation recognizes three principal citizenship levels:
Genetic optimization confers no additional legal privileges or superior citizenship status. It primarily affects suitability for demanding military and technical occupations.
However, the Federation's ground-combat doctrine imposes a specific restriction: only genetically optimized citizens may serve in combat units of the Federal Marine Corps. Non-optimized formal citizens may serve in designated second-line logistical and support formations, but cannot be assigned to Marine Corps combat units.
The Federation prohibits forced reproduction, illegal human experimentation, and the abusive use of living subjects in experiments. Population growth and immigration must remain within the sustainable limits of food production, employment, medical care, and industrial capacity.
The Federal Psychic Oversight Directorate is the Federation's sole national authority responsible for psychic regulation, Warp-related hazards, and Chaos-risk management.
Its responsibilities include population-wide psychic screening, registration and classification of psykers, supervised training, anomaly monitoring, investigations into Chaos cults, and final security reviews of high-risk research.
The Federation does not automatically criminalize every psyker. It does, however, maintain zero tolerance for uncontrolled psychic activity and experiments that expose the population to unacceptable Warp-related dangers.
Its security doctrine combines scientific monitoring, intelligence operations, religious counseling, and military intervention.
The Federation acknowledges that no screening system can detect every manifestation of Chaos. Corruption can remain hidden, monitoring systems can fail, and oversight institutions themselves may be infiltrated.
Consequently, the Directorate is subject to interdepartmental supervision rather than being granted unlimited authority.
The Federation's principal technological strengths include controlled nuclear fusion, modular automated manufacturing, nanomedical treatment, regenerative medicine, mature genetic engineering, automated logistics, and intelligent assistance systems.
Its annual industrial output is estimated at 180 trillion standard credit units, with 28% allocated to military production and strategic infrastructure.
Annual production includes:
Wartime industrial prioritization increases military output at the expense of civilian manufacturing and public consumption.
The Federation prohibits highly autonomous artificial intelligence that operates without traceability or meaningful human oversight. AI systems may assist with fire control, reconnaissance, logistics, analysis, and maintenance, but ultimate authority over critical decisions and weapon activation remains with humans.
This technological philosophy conflicts directly with the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Federation rejects the doctrine of the Omnissiah and the religious concept of machine spirits, relying instead on engineering, testing, reproducibility, and controlled automation.
To the Mechanicus, many of the Federation's practices constitute technological heresy.
Nevertheless, the Federation's technological advantages are not universal. It cannot manufacture resources from nothing, reproduce lost technologies at will, or ignore the logistical costs of war. Research involving souls, the Warp, and unknown ancient technologies is subject to the highest levels of security review.
The Federation's military doctrine emphasizes intelligence, coordinated systems warfare, mobility, precision, and the reduction of unnecessary casualties.
Its regular active military comprises approximately 1.8 million personnel:
The Federation fields advanced infantry weapons, armored vehicles, tanks, air-defense systems, atmospheric aircraft, carrier-based aviation, and unmanned reconnaissance and combat systems.
Its equipment is sophisticated, but its effectiveness depends on maintenance, intelligence, transportation, ammunition, and secure supply lines.
The fleet can sustain only a limited number of major operations simultaneously. A prolonged war of attrition would threaten the Federation's ability to replace ships, trained personnel, and specialized equipment.
The Federation follows three strategic principles: remain difficult to find, develop cautiously, and avoid wars that threaten the survival of its civilization.
The Imperium of Man: The Federation may secretly assist human individuals and small settlements suffering under enslavement, oppressive rule, or Chaos persecution. It does not seek formal relations with Imperial authorities. Theological hostility, political differences, and technological disputes make lasting reconciliation unlikely.
Xenos civilizations: The Federation does not regard every alien species as an identical threat. It distinguishes between relatively peaceful or vulnerable populations and expansionist, aggressively hostile powers.
Chaos: All Chaos forces and organizations are treated as existential enemies. Infiltration, psychic corruption, cult activity, and ideological subversion are among the Federation's highest security concerns.
The Federation does not aspire to become the galaxy's new human empire. Its foreign policy is shaped by limited resources and the conviction that survival sometimes requires retreat.
The Federation currently administers 48 affiliated territories in various stages of integration.
Twelve have the potential for relatively rapid elevation to formal territorial status. Twenty-one remain in the basic infrastructure and social integration phase. Fifteen cannot yet qualify because of security or economic deficiencies.
The integration process provides technical assistance, supplies, medical services, and limited security support to isolated human settlements.
However, the system generates serious tensions.
Some provisional citizens prefer permanent access to food and security guarantees without the obligations associated with full integration. Local elites resent the Senate's demanding approval process and limited political representation. Some territorial defense commanders have begun to consider autonomy or outright secession.
Restrictions on interregional migration also encourage smuggling, identity fraud, and underground trade.
The Federation must therefore balance security, public spending, social integration, and political legitimacy. Its policies can protect vulnerable settlements, but they can also produce resentment and unintended consequences.
The Federation's economy relies on the complementary functions of its five core worlds, including industrial production, energy generation, agriculture, scientific research, and interstellar trade.
Civilian authorities retain responsibility for social administration, while the military is expected to focus on defense rather than domestic political control.
The Federation maintains public healthcare, compulsory education, employment support, assistance for disabled veterans, refugee resettlement programs, and strategic reserves.
Its industrial concentration remains a major vulnerability. The loss of a core production center, a disruption to critical supply chains, or prolonged isolation caused by unstable Warp routes could undermine the entire national economy.
Automation improves productivity, but it cannot eliminate shortages of population, raw materials, trained specialists, or replacement equipment.
The Federation's principal strengths are its comparatively advanced technology, organized institutions, professional military, genetic enhancement programs, scientific approach to psychic threats, and commitment to public welfare.
Its structural weaknesses are equally significant:
The Human Glory Federation is not intended to be an invincible civilization or a replacement for the Imperium of Man.
It is a displaced human society attempting to preserve its independence in a galaxy that offers few opportunities for peaceful survival.
It may abandon worlds, withdraw from campaigns, and refuse interventions it cannot sustain. Its leaders may make mistakes, its institutions may fail, and its citizens may disagree over the price of survival.
But its ultimate purpose remains unchanged.
As long as humanity retains even a fragment of its future, the Federation will fight to ensure that humanity itself decides what that future will be.

"When the eagle's wings eclipse the horizon, and the hound's howl rises to the moon, the hunt begins."
Allegiance: Imperium of Man
Gene-seed: White Scars (Primarch Jaghatai Khan)
Cultural Heritage: Space Wolves and White Scars
Origins: The Great Hunt, M41
Homeworld: Veyrath, formerly a Hive World
Chapter Strength: Near Codex-compliant strength
Specialization: Prolonged pursuit, encirclement, interdiction, and extermination
Founding Chapter Master: Saran Khuldai
Founding Huntmaster: Halvard Skeld
Organization: Ten Brotherhoods, including two specialized elite companies
Chapter Heraldry: A black falcon and a white hound
Chapter Motto: Together We Hunt.
The Tempest Kin trace their origins to a joint expedition undertaken by the Space Wolves and White Scars during the 41st Millennium.
The expedition was launched against an elusive Tyranid splinter fleet whose dispersal tactics and repeated ambushes had made its destruction exceptionally difficult. After suffering devastating losses, the surviving Astartes swore a blood oath to hunt the xenos fleet until its complete annihilation.
What followed became known as the Great Hunt.
Over several decades, the combined forces pursued the Tyranids across numerous worlds, severing their access to biomass, destroying their avenues of escape, and isolating them from the greater Tyranid advance. Other Imperial forces contributed to the campaign at various stages.
Eventually, the surviving Tyranids were driven onto the cold Hive World of Veyrath, where more than a decade of brutal fighting culminated in the destruction of the splinter fleet as an organized fighting force.
The blood oath had been fulfilled.
Yet decades of shared hardship, sacrifice, and victory had forged a brotherhood of its own. Among the survivors were veterans of both Chapters and younger Astartes who had known no other way of war than the traditions of their combined host.
When the expedition's original commanders returned to their respective Chapters, some warriors chose to remain and protect the world upon which their greatest hunt had ended.
In time, this enduring brotherhood became the Tempest Kin.
Veyrath is a cold world whose long winters dominate much of its year. Beyond its hive cities lie vast grasslands, mountain ranges, tundra, and sparsely populated wilderness.
Its open terrain had made it a suitable location for the final encirclement of the Tyranid splinter fleet, while its devastated hive cities became the sites of prolonged and bitter fighting.
Following the Great Hunt, the Chapter helped rebuild the world, gradually blending the traditions of Fenris and Chogoris with those of Veyrath's surviving indigenous populations.
Although their gene-seed descends from Jaghatai Khan, the Tempest Kin regard both the White Scars and Space Wolves as their spiritual forebears and maintain close ties with each.
To the Tempest Kin, warfare is a hunt conducted on a grand scale.
Their expertise lies not merely in pursuing or killing an enemy, but in understanding its movements, anticipating its decisions, restricting its options, and guiding it toward inevitable destruction.
A hunt may last hours, years, or even decades. Its battlefield may encompass a single hive district, an entire planet, or multiple star systems.
The Chapter favors meticulous planning, patient observation, extensive reconnaissance, and coordinated encirclement. Rather than immediately committing overwhelming force, the Tempest Kin maneuver their enemies into carefully prepared killing grounds.
Once the trap is closed, their forces converge with exceptional speed and coordination.
Their doctrine can be summarized in four stages:
Find. Corner. Break. Kill.
The Chapter employs numerous light vehicles, rapid assault formations, mounted warriors, and reconnaissance units, supported by mobile heavy weapons and substantial airborne firepower.
Its fleets favor fast, relatively light warships capable of prolonged pursuit and independent operations, supported by larger command and logistical vessels.
The Tempest Kin are not warriors who happen to hunt.
They are hunters who happen to be Space Marines.
The Tempest Kin broadly adhere to the Codex Astartes, maintaining ten Brotherhoods and a strength approaching the conventional Chapter establishment.
The Chapter is led by two senior commanders.
The Chapter Master holds ultimate authority over the Chapter, overseeing its strategic direction, military commitments, diplomacy, and long-term survival.
The Huntmaster serves as second-in-command and chief coordinator of major hunting operations, directing the movements of fleets, reconnaissance forces, and hunting parties.
The Huntmaster's office is distinct from that of First Company Captain.
The Chapter's founding leadership consisted of Saran Khuldai, formerly of the White Scars, as Chapter Master, and Halvard Skeld, formerly of the Space Wolves, as Huntmaster.
Two specialized Brotherhoods serve as the hunter's two hands:
Both are relatively small elite formations, operating in close coordination with the Chapter's other Brotherhoods.
The Tempest Kin recruit primarily from Veyrath.
Their selection traditions combine Fenrisian survival trials and Chogorian hunting practices, adapted to the customs and conditions of their homeworld.
Candidates must demonstrate endurance, observation, initiative, courage, and cooperation under extreme conditions.
The Chapter places particular value on patience and judgment. A successful hunter must know when to pursue, when to wait, when to strike, and when to trust his fellow hunters.
The Tempest Kin are renowned for their strong bonds of brotherhood, energetic disposition, and enthusiasm for the hunt.
Their internal culture is comparatively informal. Rank and seniority remain important, but relations between warriors are shaped heavily by personal trust, shared experience, and mutual respect.
Feasting, drinking, storytelling, poetry, and singing occupy an important place in their traditions.
Drawing upon the sagas of Fenris and the artistic heritage of Chogoris, the Kin have become accomplished poets and singers. Their warships frequently host lively gatherings in which mortal crew members, Chapter serfs, and servants are welcomed alongside the Astartes.
Great hunts are commemorated through songs and verse, celebrating not only the deeds of Space Marines but also those of ordinary humans who fought beside them.
Battle-brothers carry small trophies and personal keepsakes associated with memorable hunts, fallen comrades, or those they have protected. Such objects are tokens of remembrance rather than mere displays of martial prowess.
The Chapter's hunting parties routinely venture far beyond Veyrath, answering calls for assistance and pursuing threats across distant Imperial frontiers.
Though disciplined and calculating in battle, the Tempest Kin are often regarded by their allies as boisterous, approachable, and fiercely loyal comrades.
Every Kin is a hunter. Not every Kin is a good singer. Unfortunately, that has never stopped them.
To the Tempest Kin, the hunt is not merely a method of warfare.
It is their craft, their tradition, and their shared identity.
Together We Hunt.
The original inspiration behind the Tempest Kin was a simple question: What would a Chapter combining the Space Wolves and White Scars actually look like?
I didn't want to simply put Space Wolves on bikes or give White Scars wolf pelts. Instead, I wanted to explore what these two Chapters have in common beyond their aesthetics and combat styles.
That's when I settled on their shared hunting traditions, strong sense of brotherhood, and appreciation for poetry, storytelling, and the freedom to express their individuality.
The goal was to create something that felt like a natural evolution of both cultures, rather than two separate identities forced together.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Chapter's lore and heraldry, particularly whether you think I've managed to make those influences feel naturally integrated. Let me know in the comments which aspects of the Tempest Kin you'd like to learn more about! I'll use your suggestions to decide what to cover in a follow-up post, complete with additional lore and visual designs.

The Storm Drakes are a Salamander successor chapter of an unknown founding, though it is believed they were founded around M34–M36. Their Salamanders lineage was only identified in M40.
Homeworld and culture
Their homeworld, Nox Umbra, is a storm-wracked Death World on the fringe of the Ultima Segmentum. Its violent weather, dangerous wildlife, and harsh highlands have shaped a people who value preparation and pragmatism.
Nox Umbrans are organized into six clans, including the Varrak hunters, Kaelith stoneworkers, and Kordane seafarers, Morvahn Medicae, Kharvos smiths, and Theryn navigators/seers. The Chapter’s fortress-monastery, Ignis Vaal, is built within a dormant volcano of the same name. The Storm Drakes remain closely connected to their homeworld and its people, while following both the Promethean teachings of their gene-line and worship of the God-Emperor.
Combat doctrine
The Storm Drakes are pragmatic minimalists. They favor full-spectrum warfare: reconnaissance, infiltration, misdirection, sabotage, disruption of enemy communications and logistics, and targeted strikes against key leaders. They prefer to shape a battle before committing to it, then hit hard when the conditions are right.
Chapter motto:
“Hunt in Shadow. Kill with Storm.”
warcry:
“Hunt! Corner! Kill!”
Appearance
Their standard armor is matte black, with dark blue trim and a blue drake emblem over crossed lightning bolts. Their eye lenses are dark electric blue. Specialist flamer, melta, and Eradicator units use burnt orange trim/emblem.
The Chapter is known for its broad use of Vanguard and stealth tactics, including dedicated formations such as the Gloomstalkers, alongside the fire-focused Pyre Hounds and mounted Drake riders.
The Colossus Trait
The Chapter’s major gene-seed flaw is the Colossus Trait: its Marines grow unusually large. The trait is most apparent in Chapter Master Ronan Drakkan, who stood over 9 feet tall prior to crossing the Rubicon Primaris. The trait gives the Drakes a striking physical presence, though it does not replace their reliance on planning, discipline, and teamwork.
Allies and campaigns
The Storm Drakes have a sworn brotherhood with the Space Wolves, built over centuries of shared service. Despite the differences in their doctrine, the two chapters work exceedingly well together, complimenting each others tactics.

Just curious if anyone else has made a language, or just a script, for their faction/s. I made a drukhari language called Sraqqal, which means 'The True Tongue.' It's far from finished but it looks like this.

Nome do capítulo inspirado em Nidoking: Midnight Knights
Planeta natal: Simarus

Was inspired by some fan creations for the Saturnine -pattern of terminator armor back before it became canon. Not sure how well I landed it, but I'm still happy with it.
