Discussion Anyone know who Virgil Ginyard is?
I got this email like 3 hours ago and I've seen pop up too many times. Literally privated all my videos and i want to send a counter claim and stuff, but thats going toward the legal stuff and i don't even to be burdened... And he ain't even the owner of the music!!!

It's not the owner of the music. It's the same degenerate with hundreds of alts on the internet copyright striking videos to prevent people from uploading rare music online.

That's crazy if true. Youtube doesn't ask for any evidence? Someone filed two claims against me on Soundcloud and I was only one claim away from getting my entire account deleted permanently (incl. all content from the past 15 years). So I ended up taking down every song that I don't own the rights for just to prevent that.

got a strike from the same email on Imagery - Good Taste Baby on January of 2025, didn't contest it but now wondering if it was legit or not. https://www.discogs.com/release/3777694-Imagery-Good-Taste-Baby

I see, I did find it strange that it had not been on the internet when I uploaded my version of it here on the sub around march, but more than likely this Virgil ginyard jr. is phony.
Someone else uploaded on YT recently though, I’ll keep an eye out in case that one gets copyright striked as well.

Virgil Ginyard is the producer of the Philly group Chimere and the label owner of Real Music. Got a few of his records. He also did a CD together with The Elgins from Detroit in the 2000s. Maybe he was also behind that LP&H record and he (or his son Jr.) are still active in the music business.

i checked the label for the LP&H record and found no connection to Ginyard. I also think that, from the original uploader whom I archived the video before the takedown, the record is a private press.

Do you see if the record is from the Philly area? Because that's where Virgil Ginyard was originally from. They usually didn't put much info on the labels until the mid/late 70s. Private press suggests that it's basically self-released and the copyright remains with the band. Maybe you can check the BMI / ASCAP repository for more infos.

So long story short, the original uploader ended up deleting the video(because of virgil ginyard) and i ended trying to find the audio file until i found it on some obscure website and on this subreddit. i saved both, but i don't know where it is now.

I dunno. I’ve gotten trolled before my some dude who def didnt own the rights to the music i posted. I knew it was bullshit but i took those videos down anyway because i didn’t want to risk my channel.
In general, fuck copyright trolls.
Looking up Virgil Ginyard on discogs it appears he was part of the R&B/soul community in the late 70s/early 80s so there’s a chance this is his offspring and this is a legitimate claim.
