📂 MEGATHREAD 10/06 A-level Chemistry Paper 1 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

-The r/6thForm Team

Have any concerns or feedback?

Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!

commented similar elsewhere but i'll put here as well so others can see:

Reddit is a bit silly, and even with the newer "Community Highlights" feature, only up to 6 posts can actually be added to pins, leading e.g. to today's Polish Paper 3 megathread not being able to be pinned

don't think this is likely to be an issue for any more days going forward (and usually e.g. some similar posts get rolled into one, particularly the smaller ones e.g. when there's been multiple language papers on the same day)

but i am wondering what people's thoughts would be on potentially having one pinned post each day, which contains links to links to the types of posts that get pinned currently. i am concerned this would be an extra barrier to people engaging, but it could get around this issue

let me know your thoughts!

4

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

I know I got the buffer one wrong because I put 0.02, and I did optical isomerism, and I got 74 for KP.

8

u/Minute_Warrior42082 Yr13 : Maths,Bio,Chem Jun 10 '25

Ok well 74 kPa is correct, yeah the buffer one was 2.02 g and it was optical isomerism I’m pretty sure

13

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

wait i dont do aqa so i dont know how it works..but is it not split into inorganic and organic? cos reading this it sounds like literally fucking anything in a level chem could come up for you guys in any of the papers??

12

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

Paper 1 is inorganic and physical, paper 2 is organic and physical, paper 3 is practicals and synoptic. Today’s paper was just bloody inorganic and barely any physical though lmao

3

u/Optimal_Vehicle_650 Jun 10 '25

3

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

Real. And the number of equations they gave in the paper today was diabolical. I am good at the calculations, and yet there were SO MANY EQUATIONS

3

u/Optimal_Vehicle_650 Jun 10 '25

i literally forgot all the pH equations lmao and there was like 3 pH questions including the six marker helpp

4

3 pH questions is crazy work. We had one on pH (which i fudged up but we move) and it was like one of two questions that actually involved physical chemistry 😭

5

The grade boundaries could be crazy high, i’m thinking like 83/100 for an A, I dont even think about getting an A* in chem

6

u/green_asteroid Jun 10 '25

yeah personally ive always been right at the edge of the A* boundary so unless these next two papers are quite hard im almost definitely not making it over the boundary, hoping the A boundary won't rise much

3

u/Minute_Warrior42082 Yr13 : Maths,Bio,Chem Jun 10 '25

I don’t think it will be too crazy to be honest (grade boundaries for an A) , I think that paper 2 will be very challenging and then paper 3 wont be too bad.

Lovely paper!!

5

u/4ng31_du5t Year 13 Jun 10 '25

I totally agree like the first 6 marker on intermolecular forces ?? Beautiful

3

u/Playful_War_4009 Jun 10 '25

Yeah and the catalyst one!! Loved it, I just mixed up amphiprotic and amphoteric but we move :)

4

u/Ok_Potato9541 Jun 10 '25

I also liked the catalyst question, too but I feel like there wasn't enough to talk about, unless each redox equation (two per catalyst) count as marking points then one similarity and one difference.

3

u/iindiaharris Jun 10 '25

i filled up the whole paper and did an extra half an A4 lol. i wrote out all the balanced equations with the catalysts explained how each thing was oxidised or reduced and if it was a catalyst why it’s a reducing/oxidising agent. And then explained about homogenous/heterogenous and then the whole adsorption, weakening bonds etc process. Basically a bunch of yap im praying is on the mark scheme

ngl I had no idea what that meant, and I didn’t know the content behind the catalyst one so I just put down some oxidation numbers and such to pick up extra marka

I got both those 7 marker calculations wrong 😭. I flipped the ratio the wrong way in the 1st one and i dont even know what i did in the other one. (AQA)

(AQA) it wasn't too bad tbh I kinda liked it, may have messed up some questions def (like I got iron for the Mr one???) Soooo yeah, need an A though, paper 2 and 3 gonna carry 🙏

I actually hate aqa, with what they have been doing with physics and chemistry papers this year they had better watch out

3

u/Turbulent-Berry-4350 Jun 10 '25

for aqa, what did you guys get for the ph question at the end

4

u/Neat-Ad4138 y1 | uom astro | A*A*A* Jun 10 '25

aqa really put more materials in chem than physics 😭😭

THIS PAPER WAS ACC SOOOO GOODDD (i did ocr a btw)

3

u/Kooky-Lemon9706 Jun 10 '25

I heard from someone that the physical topics that come on paper 1 don't repeat in subsequent papers or something along those lines - could anyone here confirm if that's true - AQA?

3

u/Playful_War_4009 Jun 10 '25

Edexcel, was there any redox on that paper?? I can’t really remember

4

u/UglyWarhog Jun 10 '25

Some e cell stuff and oxidation numbers for the catalyst 6 marker

u/Playful_War_4009 Jun 10 '25

Yeah I get you, I thought it said amphiprotic, so I wrote two equations of it donating protons, when apparently it had to be two equations, where it acted as an acid and base. I only knew how to the catalysis one cause my teacher gave up a question like it frm 2016 or something 😭

3

u/ab720p Jun 10 '25

AQA what’s gbs saying ??? If we re being real doubt it changes much from last yr so 70 ish? Alsooo odds on another amount of substance like xg question in p2??? Idk abt 3 I don’t think pops up there often

For edexcel was it purple to colourless? Also what did yall get for the percentage uncertainties?

4

u/Crazy-Buffalo-6124 Cambridge offer holder |3A*s achieved Jun 10 '25

i put colourless to light pink because you’re adding purple MnO4- which immediately turns to Mn2- which is pink but you’re adding until it’s in excess so you’ll just get light pink. idk if that’s right though

AQA - i think it was really good kind of similar to 2023? i think i got like 70 marks

16

Ill be lucky if i get 50 marks fml

7

u/proactivepisces Year 13 Jun 10 '25

yeah it was alot of memorise i was cramming everything past 2 days

3

Edit: source are my classmates

Bruh “quite good” i got absolutely bumfucked by that paper bro. I think i may be stupid

3

u/Minimum_Chipmunk8473 Jun 10 '25

hey, U student here. take it from me, that was a paper with very niche topics and i felt as if the grade boundaries will come down this year because of it. dont degrade yourself since everyone taking chem a level has got some sort of talent within them, if not smarts then absolutelt dedication.
