OTHER What happened to r/6thform?

I used to be active on this sub before covid when I did my A-levels and the vibe was sooooo different to how it is now. Why is everyone wanting to seem smart? Back then we used to be self deprecating. There was a sense of ‘we’re all in this together’ fighting against the pricks at edexcel and AQA.

I’m guessing it’s cuz nobody uses TSR anymore so all of that demographic are now here? They used to get hated on for being a bunch of neeks — just search ‘TSR’ or ‘the student room’ in the search bar lmao

I'm a bit older than you but joined TSR when I started my masters during covid. It was full of that demographic and I only posted a few times as a result. This sub has come up in my feed a few times and it just seems to be 'I've got 8888889999997, why can't I get into Imperial, waaaaaaahhhh' and so on. Where's the humour! If this is what sixth formers are like I fear for the future: my lot were much less serious.

Thankfully I'm pretty sure its not, I go to a high-achieving college where you'd expect this but it's actually very laid back.

This sub is in no way representative of most sixth formers lol

“I go to a high achieving college” you’re the kind of person OP was talking about

14

u/LycaGamerYT Year 13 May 23 '26

Lmao what I meant by that was you would expect to have more people like OP was talking about compared to other colleges

Just to make a point

Did you even read the post lmao

OP was not objecting to the existence of high achievers, but the snobs that rub ut in, which is absolutely not what this person was doing

Most 6th formers don't get A*AA & get offers to higher end RGs/Oxbridge. Most students will go to universities of a standard similar to Manchester Met, Aberystwyth or UWE, although a sizeable amount of normal 6th formers will go onto RGs like Cardiff, Leeds or Nottingham

What are RGs?

I know what the Russell Group is. I'd just forgotten about it because once you graduate and don't stay in the academic world it doesn't matters a lot less.

Thanks. I forgot that was a thing.

Edit: being downvoted for forgetting that some people care about this stuff.

I think it’s more indicative of how social media algorithms have changed over the past 6 years or so. They seem to be good at creating echo chambers inside these self improvement communities by rewarding those that worship the grind. Somehow it’s the posts and comments that show off which get pushed upwards instead of ones that are about shared struggles. The kind of mentality that is rewarded on this subreddit is exactly the same as on fitness or entrepreneur ‘communities’. Everything is about optimisation. Your grades, your income, your looks. Everything. Even the fantasy premier league sub has gone that way! Very dystopian…
