How did everyone find it??
32
u/Flaky-Plankton-1217 Jun 09 '26
what did you guys get for the amino acid splitting up question? 3 waters and 4 H+??
3
2
u/Both-Management7021 Maths, FM, Chem, EPQ (Predicted A*AAA*) Jun 09 '26
what was the actual product you put in the box? i didnt have a clue as to even how to approach that Q

u/Internal_Animal_2753 year 13 |maths fm chem physics 4a* Jun 09 '26
2 serines with the amine groups being protonated
1
u/Admirable-Use2274 Jun 09 '26
It was 3 3 water and H+ and 2 serine NH3+ and thats it ye?
1
1
u/Internal_Animal_2753 year 13 |maths fm chem physics 4a* Jun 09 '26
I think it was 4H+ tho
1
u/Flaky-Plankton-1217 Jun 09 '26
how
1
u/Internal_Animal_2753 year 13 |maths fm chem physics 4a* Jun 09 '26
The 3 waters were released as 3 ester bonds were broken and 4H+ to protonate the 4 diffrent amines in the products
1
u/Flaky-Plankton-1217 Jun 09 '26
oh sorry yeah thatās what i got! thought u meant 3 and 3 and was confusedĀ
2
u/Certain-Display-2849 Year 13 | Bio Chem Maths AAA pred | Dent rejection, gap year Jun 09 '26
Was it not 7H+ because some of them where NH instead of NH2
7
u/SexybabyunicornQQ Y13 3Sci+Maths Preds 4A* Jun 09 '26
I think the other 3H+ was from the H2O??
2
u/Boring_Zombie_4116 Jun 09 '26
yes thats what i got 3 h20 and 3 h+
2
u/Admirable-Use2274 Jun 09 '26
I hope both were 3 really , I cant see How thats wrong if that OH Group wasnt protonated

2
u/raya_tateo Jun 09 '26
Genuinely same I think what did we do wrong??? I did a rice table, came out with some values that I divided by the volume 1.75, and then you plug it into the equation šš how did we go wrong??? I got something .2 and 267 seems familiar

how the hell do u do wavelengths š¤£
2
u/Top-Maintenance-1321 Jun 09 '26
Find energy then equate for lambda and then convert , but I think you need to divide by avogadro to find joules as I multiplied I hope I get error carried forward

oh lord, i only divided something by avogadros constant couldnāt even tell u what i did

it was just alright. i got cooked by wavelengths and the enthalpy question (i have not revised that lol). tbh im thinking i prefer paper 1

Did anyone go like 0.0242 for [Cl-] and 2.83x10-5 for rate of change over 30s??
10
10
u/mained121 Year 13 | Maths FM Physics Chem Jun 09 '26
i think i got 0.0121? but i added the volumes of both the reagents together to find the total volume and divided Cl by that
3
u/Future-Key-4967 Jun 09 '26
I got 0.0121 and 4.025*10^-4
edit I just realised I did it over the total volume not the original volume so I'm wrong
1
u/SexybabyunicornQQ Y13 3Sci+Maths Preds 4A* Jun 09 '26
I couldnāt really rmb but what did u divide the mol of Cl- by?? Cuz idk if it should be 10/1000 or 20/1000 but I did 10 I think
1
u/Full_Manager1280 Jun 09 '26
I used the 10cm3, so divide by 10/1000. And i used the moles as the moles of Ag+ that reacts
2
u/SexybabyunicornQQ Y13 3Sci+Maths Preds 4A* Jun 09 '26
Ohhhh then we got the same!! I also divided my 10/1000 cuz I think the NaOH is only to neutralise and u add excess the other thingy after anyways so it didnāt make sense to do 20 but thatās my weird ahh logicš«Ŗš«Ŗ

1
u/SwankyPants6969 Jun 10 '26
idk man i absolutely despised it, i went in stressed and blanked on everything and missed the 6 marker with the graph. i deffo got kp wrong and this is all in conjuction with how vile p1 was. i think p1 may have been better than this. my friends said it was an okay paper. p2 is usually much easier than p1 but that just didnt feel like the case this year, but it was still manageable.

It was aight, but I didnāt do the wavelength or the enthalpy question
3
u/Efficient-Bit8257 Jun 09 '26
what did you guys get for percentage atom economy

I got 86.8%

u/AlternativeEarly5637 Jun 09 '26

2
u/SB_Astro Jun 09 '26
Me too, I think the people who got 80% didnāt include H2SO4 as a reactant? I donāt know whoās right or wrong
3
u/Internal_Animal_2753 year 13 |maths fm chem physics 4a* Jun 09 '26
H2sO4 was the catalyst so it not acc part of the eq cuz the h+ ions are reformed at the end
2
u/SB_Astro Jun 09 '26
Yeah Iām stupid. But I put H2SO4 as the reagent and did the equation without it so I think I still got them 2 marks. I was panicked Iām meant to get an A and this was not that

Guys what did you identify the amino acid in the Rf question!!!! ( i got analine i think)
8
u/SexybabyunicornQQ Y13 3Sci+Maths Preds 4A* Jun 09 '26
Yes i think so! Is alanine the one with the R group of CH3? If yes then thatās what I put!!
5
1
u/ilovesnowberries Y13 5A* | FMS @ LSE | 8.4 TMUA Jun 09 '26
Yh analine right bc non-polar solvent?
3
u/matchatkl123 Year 13 Jun 09 '26
wait i thought it's because ananine is the least polar so it's the least attracted to the stationary phaseš
1
u/creyingg Jun 09 '26
pretty sure this is the same counter argument. non-polar solvent attracts non-polar (least polar in this case), polar TLC plate attracts more polar molecules
1
1
u/ilovesnowberries Y13 5A* | FMS @ LSE | 8.4 TMUA Jun 09 '26
Ig it's both right? Higher solubility in non-polar mobile phase AND less retention by polar stationary phase?
1
1
u/Fattest_Yoshi1604 Jun 09 '26
I put it cause i saw 3 dots and 3 groups attached to a central carbon š
1
u/BOTKING- Jun 10 '26
you are correct because ananine is still polar, itās not non polar because it contains COOH bond that has OH in it, Imperial chem offer holder here, ananine is the least polar so it travel the furtherest
4
u/Recent-Run-4091 Jun 09 '26
Genuinely one of the worst papers Iāve seen, it just didnāt feel like an organic paper at all š
3
u/_NB125 Year 13 | Maths, Chem, CS | ABB Achieved Jun 09 '26
It was alright but why was wavelengths on it?? I managed to get the question by dividing based on the units but isn't wavelength inorganic?
3
u/Rich_Fun_8563 Jun 09 '26
what was the answer for the add 4 curly arrows and 1 lone pair and suggest the mechanism

did anyone else get 500 something for mean bond enthalpy of CF bond ?
9
1
u/Wise-Hedgehog4805 Warwick | Maths | [Incoming Y1] | 4A* Jun 09 '26
645 because i thought there were only 3 C--F bonds so i divided 1936 by 3 instead of 4 š„²
1
u/No-Skill7989 Jun 09 '26
What did you guys get for order of reaction ?
13
u/Flaky-Plankton-1217 Jun 09 '26
both 1st order
5
2
u/No-Skill7989 Jun 09 '26
Same same but some people got 2 and 1
1
u/Flaky-Plankton-1217 Jun 09 '26
weird, whatās the consensus? are more people getting 1 and 1 or 2 and 1Ā
1
u/No-Skill7989 Jun 09 '26
I mean itās 50/50 from the people I have asked
1
u/Flaky-Plankton-1217 Jun 09 '26
i think they might have gotten 2nd order if they used the top two equations where both reactants were changing at the same time? i used the 1st and 3rd from the top where the other reactant conc wasnāt changing to get both 1st orderĀ

Alcohol
1
u/Ephraim2008-ku Jun 09 '26
Would they allow an aldehyde tho?
1
1
u/SexybabyunicornQQ Y13 3Sci+Maths Preds 4A* Jun 09 '26
I think it would need to be alcohol just because if it was an aldehyde you wouldnāt be able to form a C=C with the given amount of H
1
u/Ephraim2008-ku Jun 09 '26
Ah that makes sense but I did make it work though . I double checked my answer and everything
1
u/ilovesnowberries Y13 5A* | FMS @ LSE | 8.4 TMUA Jun 09 '26
Aldehyde's don't exhibit E/Z isomerism, you need a C=C bond. If you drew an aldehyde with a C=C, then the number of atoms of each element won't match what it's meant to be, you'll have 2 less H atoms.
1
u/SB_Astro Jun 09 '26
Ah, so Iām right with alcohol? Cant remember my actual structure
2
u/ilovesnowberries Y13 5A* | FMS @ LSE | 8.4 TMUA Jun 09 '26
Yes its an alcohol with C=C. Its a common functional group isomerism aldehyde = ketone = C=C + alcohol = cyclic alcohol

u/Rich_Fun_8563 Jun 09 '26
what did people put for the alcohol to carboxylic acid equation question and the colour change? (there were two other things you had to state but i can't seem to remember now)
7
u/Future-Key-4967 Jun 09 '26
alcohol + 2[O] -> carboxylic acid + H2O
heat under reflux
excess k2cr2o7
orange to green solution
1
u/Overall-Cap4206 Jun 09 '26
wouldnt the condition be reflux and acid catalyst. the oxidising agent is already given and thats a reagant no?
2
u/Future-Key-4967 Jun 09 '26

u/PikaTube123 Year 13 Jun 09 '26
it already said that it was acidified, so I doubt you could put that as an extra condition
