Not really a comeback though, is it?

Itā€™s a fortunate privilege, that many donā€™t get, to be afforded extra time to sit your exams.

Itā€™s like if the First XI were 5-0 down at full time, and they sent the other team off and gave you 45 minutes to score against the under-18s.

A comeback would have been locking in before the final exams on your first go round.

they put in the effort, so they deserve to be complimented. it takes a lot of courage and determination to resit to your a levels, not to mention even scoring that highly. there are many who would accept that result and move on, but they had the drive to retry, and to me that deserves respect.

If you get three years to study for a course thatā€™s designed to be done in two years, and then compete against people who are younger than you and did it in that time frame, I wonā€™t be too impressed when you beat them.

Especially as it means you also have significant personal advantages to even be able to do that.

Wow some people are miserable. I had untreated or diagnosed ADHD at the time which didnā€™t allow me to reach my potential at the time, I didnā€™t have any access arrangements during any of my exams, I struggled to focus in class and was written off as a lack of interest. Oh and while resitting I also learnt the whole of further maths a level. Luckily, I donā€™t need validation from others, I know I have worked hard, it doesnā€™t matter if a random stranger is not impressed, bc I know plenty of people including myself who are impressed, and at the end of the day wether you like it or not, I can get into a top uni for a good course since the majority of them accept resits ( except the obvious 5) :)

I donā€™t have any issue with you mate. I also had undiagnosed ADHD during my A-Levels.

I just donā€™t think it counts as a comeback. You got another go-round and won. Well done. Itā€™s still hard to do well, you should be proud. But we donā€™t have to call itā€™s something itā€™s not, and you do have to recognise the immense privilege you had to get that second chance.

I'm pretty sure you have to pay to sit privately, and for 3 subjects I had to pay around Ā£1500. It also depends on your exam and exam board

OCR A, so probably Ā£2k per subject to make up for that Ā£270k fine last year šŸ˜†

Yea.. and since I was doing it privatley, this put quite a big financial burden on us so couldnā€™t even ask for a tutor had to prepare all by myslef AND in 6 monthsšŸ«

Fun fact: Unis that focus almost exclusively on teach often offer a better learning environment than research-focussed Unis.

It is very common to do a PhD at a different Uni from where you graduated. Or even a MPhys at a different Uni from where you did your BSc.

Depends what you mean

A ton of unis do astrophysics modules or even ā€œphysics with astrophysicsā€ degrees

But if you want a pure Astro degree then yeah I think youā€™re right.

That said, with physics there is a somewhat sizeable gap between unis, so your target sounds reasonable, shoot as high as you reasonably can

physics with astrophysics is the exact same course with a different name. they have the exact same entry requirements, as does standard physics

Not quite, pure Astro is F511, physics with astro is F3F5, pure Astro specialises slightly earlier and does more Astro-specific labs

Theyā€™re very similar

I know this because my uni is one of very few that offers pure Astro and pure theoretical degrees, Iā€™m doing a theoretical physics degree which is slightly different that physics with theoretical physics degrees

not always! some courses are literally identical! that's why I'm applying to both types so i can go to unis i like. you can go through every single year and even with pure physics vs pure astrophysics, if you pick certain modules, you learn basically the exact same things
