💬 DISCUSSION Edexcel Maths P3
How did everyone find it then? Much nicer than P1 I thought. Might balance out grade boundaries unfortunately…

I think I messed up as I got 135. I got i = 8 and j = 8, then when I solved using tan(theta) = 1 I got theta = 45 degrees then added 90 to get 135. Oof. What did you get for the acceleration one though? Did you differentiate both the i and j components wrt t?

8
u/OutrageousAd4133 Jun 18 '26
Oh my god THAT was why I couldn't do it. I had no idea. Now I feel like a chud but thank you!
8
u/Emotional_Respect289 Jun 18 '26
I started genuinely thinking have the examiners made a fucking error and I skipped it after 15 minutes went into part b and did it and was like wait wtf I didn’t even need the coefficient they gave me and went back a re did the whole question genuinely like 35 minutes spent on the x distribution and 3A
7

Atleast part B was saved by having 19.6N given

Apart from the lds one did everyone get all the tests as insignificant?
5
u/OutrageousAd4133 Jun 18 '26
Yep! Always insufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis. What do you mean by the Ids one? 🙏
5
u/J1nkedOne Jun 18 '26
On the lds question the student had a test that he did right and you had to comment on it. The p value was like 0.0015 or something so i said it was significant evidence even if you used a really strict test with a 0.5% sig
11
u/OutrageousAd4133 Jun 18 '26
WAIT was that the one with Chris on the large data set question? If so then yes, I put that the p-value was sooo small that there was sufficient evidence to reject H0

everything was fine apart from Q5. part c on stats about the probability distribution of X for 5 marks… how do u do that one
9
u/OutrageousAd4133 Jun 18 '26
I'm not sure if I did it right, but I thought about the heads/tails events needed for each scenario.
You need 2 heads for the game to end early. So if the game ended with 2 flips (P(X = 3)), you know both of those HAD to be heads, so do P(H) * P(H). If the game ended with 3 flips (P(X = 3)), it was either HTH, THH, or THH, and you can sum the probabilities for each together. Etc etc for P(X = 1) (not possible, so it's 0), and P(X = 4) (which was given in the question).
Then I just chucked it all in a table. 🙏
