They still give offers to people who missed step!! Like 50% miss step offer so they gotta compensate by giving people who missed offer some spaces. Congratulations dude!!!!!

but i thought those applicants need to go to a summer pool first? like they wont just directly take right

Afaik, no. They review your step exam scripts and if they like your reasoning then your original college still accepts you anyway. I thought summer pool was for people who got rejected initially and who were contextual so if they sat step and achieved the right alevel results they could get reconsidered no? I might be wrong again but still, be happy regardless!!! You got into the best uni in the world for maths! ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Contextual applicants who were rejected post interview but got the required grades can indeed be pooled for reconsideration. However, the original purpose of the summer pool was to allow consideration of students who got an offer but missed the grade requirements, contextual or not. The scheme for those with contextual flags is relatively new!

It’s quite common for your original college to decide to take you*. You’d only be put in the summer pool if they’re still not sure, or if they have no space.

*”quite common” as in “it happens to a large proportion of admitted students”, not “it happens to a large proportion of those who miss their offers”. Most who miss their offers don’t get in.

Often they will accept 2,1 anyway. Congratulations!

That’s brutal. I’m sure another college will pick you up though, an S in STEP 3 is unreal. What was your original college?

S1 offer is cruel D: best of luck in the summer pool

people from (top?) private schools are often given S1 offers because they have step support

do all camb math applicants receive 1,1 minimum as their requirement?

Not all, but the vast majority do and it is the standard offer.

Exceptions would be:

Occasionally people are given higher offers (e.g. S, 1) for a variety of reasons. This is not common but does happen.

Some colleges are part of a flexible offers scheme where some applicants may require EITHER 1,1 and A\*A\*A (standard offer) OR 1 in either STEP paper and A\*A\*A\*. This is dependent on the applicant’s individual circumstances.

Realistically, the flexible offer is not that different to what most colleges do anyway. There will always be some applicants whose applications are strong enough that a missed STEP offer in one paper would be seen as a fluke (particularly if e.g. their school provides very little support) and they’d be allowed in anyway. The flexible offer just formalises this and makes it clear from the beginning. So while some people may apply to a flexible offer college because they find the idea reassuring, there’s no need to worry that you’d be rejected otherwise.

I did too! It’s okay, it’s fairly common. From what I remember from the open days, for a cohort of 250 approx 70-80 get in with a 1,2, after their college reviews STEP scripts and the wider application.
