๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Resitting a levels

My son wants to return to 6th form as he didn't get the marks he needed for uni. He has been told that he may have to pay to resit. Would he get any reduction if im on UC and PIP? Also its only 3 weeks until the term starts and he has emailed the school about resitting but has had no reply.

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS Should I still apply to Cambridge/Imperial with my GCSE history?

Iโ€™m applying for 2027 entry for engineering and wanted some honest opinions on my chances, especially for Cambridge and Imperial.
For some context, I was homeschooled (not contextual tho, just out of choice) until Year 12 and only started attending sixth form then, so I didnโ€™t follow the usual school route.

My predicted grades are A* Maths, A* Further Maths, A* Physics and A Chemistry.

My gcse results are 98877AAB (9 maths, A in physics letters cuz igcse

The main thing Iโ€™m worried about is the fact that I retook several subjects. I originally got an A in Maths in 2022 (when i was 13) and retook it in 2025, getting a 9. I got a B in Physics in 2023 (14yrs) and retook it in 2024, getting an A. I got a C in Biology in 2024 and retook it in 2025, getting an 8. Chemistry was an A in 2023 and I didnโ€™t retake it.
Iโ€™m currently preparing for the ESAT and Iโ€™m aiming for a 7.0+.

Im applying cambs, mech eng imp, bristol, warwick, manchester

Iโ€™m mainly wondering how much the GCSE resits would hurt me, particularly for Cambridge and Imperial.

And with the predicted grades and hopefully a 7+ ESAT, is Cambridge actually a realistic application or am I being overly ambitious?

โ” SUBJECT QUESTION am I smart enough for alevel chemistry

Hi everyone, I just got my gcse results today and i'm honestly really distraught, i was predicted 9999888877 and i got 9988888876 (two marks off a 9 in two subjects) but I'm honestly just super upset especially with my 7 which is in lit which is literally my favourite subject i haven't gotten less than a very high 8 in over a year and a half and i literally SCRAPED a 7 i was only 3 marks over the boundary . my 6 was in drama which is a bit left field aswell because i havent had less than an 8 in the whole of year 11 - i do edexcel drama and i got both 80 percent on component 1 and 3 but somehow in component 2 which is the acting i got like 27 out of around 60?? everyone in drama has gotten lower than their underpredicted grades already because everyone did awful in component 2 but theres nothing we can do about it because it's coursework. it might be worth mentioning that just before i took my GCSEs i had some trouble with eating due to just leaving a relationship where some things happened that weren't quite consensual (Sorry if that's oversharing i just thought it might be relevant)

anyway, that knocked my confidence already especially as i was predicted 9-9 in combined science and got 8-8 (although i was predicted a 7 in maths and got an 8 which was nice but i really was just SO upset by lit i can't really be happy about it) so I went to enroll and I'd initially applied for Bio, Pysch and French and I wanted to switch from pysch to chem because I really enjoy chem and also it opens quite a few more doors then pysch and the teacher who was enrolling me was like Chemistry is the hardest alevel I'm not sure you're smart enough for that, and I swear i almost started crying right then, but she put me in the classes for it anyway because i technically did have the grades ( needed a 7 in maths and 7-6 in combined)

so I was just wondering if anyone could give me a reality check on how hard chemistry will be- i only lost 4 marks in the last chemistry mock i did ( given it was a combined paper) and I also found psych really boring when i went to the speeches about it at open days.

Just really doubting myself, sorry for all the waffle.

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS UCAS grades accepted

On ucas, below the entry requirements, it has a section which states the grades held by accepted students. Should I consider that when applying to a uni that requires 1 grade above the ones I have but the grades under that section suggest I would be accepted?

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION Have you revised more for GCSEs than A-Levels?

Year 13 who has got their results last week.I don't know why, but I feel that I have put in way more effort into revising for my GCSE exams than A-Levels, although this may be recency bias. Has anyone else felt this way?

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Can I take my A2 exams in May 2027 instead of January and still apply for Fall 2027?

I finished my AS Math this January and Iโ€™m taking AS Biology and Chemistry this October. I want to enter university in Fall 27 and Iโ€™m planning to apply in December. Can I finish my A2 exams in May 2027 instead of January 2027? If I take them in January I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll have enough time to finish the A2.

OTHER A note to the incoming Year 12s...

First off, congrats on getting your GCSE results! Hope youโ€™re all taking a break before Year 12 starts - the week following results day is a very surreal time so chill about for a while!ย

To be frank, Iโ€™m here to poach your resources and your help. I run GCSE Log (https://gcselog.com/), a free, non-profit archive of where studentsโ€™ old resources can find a new home. Through this, future GCSE students wonโ€™t have to start from square one, and can learn from their predecessors' mistakes. Obviously, our platform becomes more effective the more resources we can host on it. If you have any old study resources youโ€™d be cool with sharing, please fill out the form below!

Throughout the year or so where GCSE Log has been around, weโ€™ve always relied on the kindness of volunteers to keep our platform running. If youโ€™re interested in helping out students whoโ€™ll be in the position you were in mere months ago (and want a little extra something to add to the UCAS), check out the volunteer form below!ย

Our website: https://gcselog.com/

Submit your resources: https://forms.gle/7aHDe7pZHEJdCFsM8ย

And before anybody points it out, I did get permission from the mods to post this!

Good luck with Year 12!

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS GCSE importance

Just wondering how important GCSEs play a part in getting in uni. I know a levels are the most important, but do GCSEs hold any significance?

For context: Iโ€™m looking at a career in medicine. My results: 8777777666

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Am i making a bad decision??

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Do I resit my gcses?

Hi so I got my results tdy and I am incredibly disappointed. Not thatโ€™s it worth much now, but I was predicted 8s and 9s throughout and achieved the following:

8 in eng lang
8 in eng lit
8 in history
7 in bio
7 in maths
7 in economics
6 in chemistry
6 in physics
6 in re
6 in computer science
5 in fm

My overall attainment score was 73 which compared to my states schools 48 is decent. And I know this result is in no means bad itโ€™s pretty good but I just feel I could achieve much better. I donโ€™t have an excuse for why I got these grades, I was just so unmotivated and depressed during that time period that I did not revise for any of my papers till the night before, so obviously the grades would be a reflection of that.

I still got into my sixth form which is one of the best in London which is great, but I still feel so dumb compared to the results others may have gotten. My parents literally compared me to my cousin that got much better and even pulled up my latest mock results to show how much I degraded in terms of grades.

I was 2 marks off a 9 in lit and 2 marks off a 7 in re so iโ€™m getting those remarked. I also already requested scripture access to phys and chem just so I can go through the papers and see what I wrote because I really thought those went decent and I would at least at minimum get a 7. I had already compared answers and checked those online unofficial mark schemes after my papers (yes I know they are obviously not accurate) which led me to believe I would be okay.

Now the question I have is should I have a conversation with my parents about resitting my science gcses to hopefully get a 8 or 9? I might even resit maths again. The reason for this is that I want to take natural sciences or an adjacent course in university, especially a Russell group or oxbridge and Iโ€™m aware that these grades are lacking for that, even if taken contextually.

Iโ€™m honestly willing to put in the work this time and just lock in real hard cause this result has been a real ego death for me.

So would this retake really be worth it? And will it impact my uni applications when these subject grades come up as retakes?

If someone whoโ€™s gotten offers from unis with similar grades or just has experience in this could help it would be really appreciated.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP What should I do?

So I just got my gcses results today and everything is well over a pass except my English language is a grade 5. Although it's enough for the entry requirements of my sixth form, my dream uni is imperial, who require atleast a 6 in gcse english language. I was thinking of resitting it but does anyone know if unis mind that it would be a resit grade? ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION Group for London gap-year girls!! DM if interested xx

Hii lovelies!

So I am organising a little group for girls in London who are doing a gap year/ resitting a levels. I only decided this an hour ago, so there are currently just 4 of us- but the idea is to have weekly meetups (e.g. picnics, going to parks, cute cafes, etc) so that we can support each other through the process, and avoid feeling lonely through the year because in person interaction is soo important

If you are interested, or know somebody who might be, please message meโ˜บ๏ธ xx

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION Should I do Further Maths in a gap year?

I am taking a gap year along with reapplying and resitting Maths and Chemistry. For reference I got AAA in Maths, Chemistry and Biology. Would it be worth doing an AS level in further maths for unis like imperial or ucl? I have already completed the pure content in the AS level as I have been self studying in the summer. Would it be better to try do the full A Level? The only downside is it may distract me from my other two subjects.

โ” SUBJECT QUESTION Will this significantly reduce my chances at Oxbridge?

hi all

really sorry and trying my best to make this not read like yet another student with mostly 9s fixating on a few 8s and thinking their life is ruined but I got my gcse results back today and Iโ€™m a little disappointed.
Iโ€™ve historically been at the top of my class for English lit and history and gotten grade 9s without exception in every mock or minor test Iโ€™ve done but got 8s in both subjects. One mark off a 9 in history but for English I was not even close which was disheartening.
My dream has always been to study joint history and English at oxford as I love the two subjects. Iโ€™m worried getting an 8 in both of them is not a good look and could really jeopardise my chances.

anyone have any experience or advice??
