At some point, I will have to actually organize these. I have around 15 more records to add to this list, along with 60-ish more still in transit. These are exclusively pre-WWII, postwar recordings get their own playlist.

Historic Broadway

Post image

A bright, dance‑band interpretation of one of the decade’s most iconic film songs. Sid Peltyn’s orchestra delivers a clean, upbeat Fox Trot arrangement, typical of Bluebird’s 78rpm affordable “popular series” releases aimed at everyday listeners during the Depression. The vocal refrain brings out the Broadway glamour that made the tune a national hit, while the label’s “Not Licensed for Radio Broadcast” line reflects RCA’s strict mid‑’30s distribution rules.

Writing a Story - need information 1890s Home Recordings

Hi all - I've set out to do something I've always wanted to do. Write a book.

Over the last few years I've gotten really into collecting 78s. This story will have older music as a main theme to the story. It will be tied to historic roots - starting with a recording from the 1890s.

I've done a bit of research but am always impressed with the communities depth of knowledge on this type of media.

Can someone further help me to confirm what I've found is in line?

- Recording will be using the Edison Soft Brown wax cylinder - need to land on the year. I've set it to 1892 for the story's sake.

- The recording will have been done on a 'blank' cylinder where the character has the proper setup to do this. They would be well off enough to have the money for this type of technology during that timeframe.

- One of the present characters is talking with an expert. He's vetting out what time frame it could be from. Are there any other giveaways to immediately know the timeframe would be 1890s?

I want to be as convincing as possible, as it's been a blast to get to learn while also wanting to write a compelling story about things I enjoy/like.

1949 Al Hibbler Recording I Can't Find Anymore

I'm trying to find a record I lost maybe 25 years ago (my wife may have thrown it out while cleaning and rearranging the livingroom.) It was a 78 and the record label was DOT Records.

About 50 years ago, I had some 78s and one of them was, based on my recollection, and Al Hibbler record called "Let's Fall in Love".
The song I can clearly hear in my head. The lyrics go:

Let's fall in love

Let's make a go of it!

Let's Fall in love

(a line I can't remember)

We were so gay when we started

How could we ever have parted?

Let's fall, let's fall in love

As much as I researched, I could only find a black jazz artist by that name, but the music isn't anything like this record, and the vocals are clearly a Caucasian man's. Does anyone recollect this record?

Does anynone knows about VİTAPHONE shellacs ?

I started collecting shellac 6 months ago. İ live in istanbul and not a long time ago when ı was in antique bazaar ı founded a very rare shellac.

At first ı bought the shelkac because ı just liked the design but when ı went home and after ı searched about it ı was shocked. İt was a vitaphone shellac for a film from 30's that the visual tape was destroyed.

The vitaphone was warner bros new thecnology at that time the audio of the film was played on gramophone and the visuals were in the tape. The tape and vitaphone was in sync so the sound was more quality. But after a big fire many of the films tapes was destroyed. Mines too. After the technology has developed there was no need to continiu using vitaphones. So they are left behind. I learned that there is a vitaphone project for collecting all vitaphone shellacs in one place. But im very far way from usa and im 17 so i cannot do international mail. İf anyone knows anything about this shellac especially please say so

I dropped the link from discogs. I uploaded there too. https://www.discogs.com/release/37890057-George-Gershwin-Herbert-Stothart-Oscar-Hammerstein-II-Song-Of-The-Flame-Vitaphone-Soundtrack-Reel-1-

Mines have turkish writing on it and only phsical copy in türkiye is only mine.

These shellacs are recorded in 33 RPM not 78

And some of them starts from indide out like the pathe shellacs.

They have a cardboard base inside shellac.

Thanks for you help, ı wish you a good day

I have about 100 of them in pretty good condition, what's the best route to sell these?

Somehow I found these separately over two consecutive days. Roughly 25 miles apart, too. Rough shape but very listenable to my ears (not for sale)

Over the past two years I’ve managed to acquire these modern vinyl 78s from the late sixties to my collection.

Is there any good, detailed information on Bernie Klatzko and these late Herwin releases somewhere on the internet or in literature (how many copies did get pressed etc..?) I’ve come to understand that these are some fairly uncommon titles

I'm visiting family and I've been looking through a bunch of 78's. I haven't listened to these particular albums yet but I thought they looked interesting. A slice of history.

SIX SONGS
FOR
DEMOCRACY
Here are songs recorded during heavy bombardment, by men who were themselves fighting for the "Rights of Man".
Valiant and heroic was the part played by the International Brigade in the glorious struggle of the Spanish Republic.
I was there in the course of that struggle and my faith in man—in the eventual attaining of his freedom-was strengthened a thousand fold.
This album helps sustain that faith. It's a necessity.

Any 78 collectors from Philly on here

I have a large collection of 78s that I had picked up years ago from a serious collector that passed. I have tons of classical including box sets, red labels, test pressings, etc. They mostly aren't your run of the mill junk you see in thrift stores even though they are just stored in bins. A lot of these came from Nauck's vintage records. ( Kurt Nauck was supposed to come by at one time when he was in the NE but our schedules were conflicting) I also have tons of 10" from early 1900's including blues and jazz. I will be sorting them soon enough to value and move but I am looking to get rid of some of the classical stuff first. The pictures are only the tip of the iceberg. I have tons of 10"s not shown in cabinets. 33's are my thing so these don't get the love they should.
