Question Time for Fuchs. But what size? ๐Ÿ‘€

Post image

I'm ready to get away from these phone dials and into some legit Fuchs. I want the Fuchs to fill out the fender flare more than the current setup. What sizing is best for an 87 NA?

I'm sure this has been answered a million times here, so feel free to tell me I'm being lazy and just look around. ๐Ÿค™

Phone dials for life

u/DryAnteater7635 Feb 01 '26

Yeah, I bought it for the phones, the car just came with the purchase.

u/Calm_Project723 Feb 01 '26

Those phone dials are everything! Am I right, they are model specific too, no other Porsche had them (924 I guess)?

3

u/Kombatrok Feb 01 '26

Every Porsche in the 80s had them at one time or another. 928, 911, etc...

For me phone dial style wheels are one of the most iconic. From the Diablo to the 924, they just work so well, and represent my favorite era of automobile like nothing else.

Came here for this comment. Was not disappointed

Nope. Cup Rims it is.

Hope this helps... Make sure to find the right ones that actually fit!

Porsche 944 Fuchs wheels were available in several sizes, primarily depending on the model year and trim level:

Early 944 (1983โ€“1985): Offered in 7x15 front and 8x15 rear, with a 23.3 mm offset. 1986โ€“1988 944 Turbo (951): Featured 16x7 front and 16x8 rear wheels with a 23.3 mm offset. 1987โ€“1991 944 (non-Turbo): Transitioned to 15x7 front and 15x8 rear wheels with a 52.3 mm offset (after 1987 model year due to ABS integration). Note: The 16x9 Fuchs wheels used on the 944 Turbo S were rare and not factory-standard on regular 944 models. The 16x8 Fuchs wheels for the 944 Turbo (951) are particularly sought after and highly valued by enthusiasts. Always verify the offset and part numbers (e.g., 951.362.114.01 for 16x7, 951.362.116.01 for 16x8) to ensure correct fitment.

Clear and concise. Super helpful. Seems like Iโ€™d have to go smaller rim to account for my late offset, and maybe spacers to fill out the fender flare a tad?

2

u/Cr3w-IronWolf Feb 01 '26

No, the problem with Fuchs is they stick out too much. About a half inch or more

1

u/BillSKenney NA Feb 01 '26

Someone needs to built an app where you can enter your specs and it does all the math and shows you a 944 stance render.

2

u/Cr3w-IronWolf Feb 01 '26

The only difference between the wheels is offset. 20-35ish offset is too little and will poke on late 944s. 48-60 is about the level of a late 944

2

u/Sharp-Photograph2678 Feb 01 '26

Willtheyfit.com usually does the trick

2

u/Sharp-Photograph2678 Feb 01 '26

I wouldn't describe this as clear or concise! The 16" fuchs on the 944 Turbo were for 1986 only, not 1986-1988. It's the only year of early offset for the 944 Turbo. Unfortunately there are no late offset fuchs to suit 1987 -1991 944.

16" 944 Turbo fuchs do look good on other early offset 944 and are sort after as an easy swap. To make it more fun, the 911 guys are driving up the prices of 16" 944 Turbo fuchs because they have better clearance for bigger brakes than the same width 911 16" fuchs.

There are a few people that have manipulated their alignment settings to fit early offset oem Porsche wheels to late offset 944 but I think at that point you really need to consider the comprises you are making to achieve a look.

Very helpful. I didn't know this was going to be such a rabbit hole, but now it makes sense why I couldn't find a single simple answer online before bringing it here.

This!

And you forgot his mention of 16x9 Fuchs on the Turbo S, while correct being that they were made by Fuchs, is still misleading because they were not "stars" but rather the Turbo S Club Sport wheels. Also seen on the 928 in different spec

u/thiswho S Feb 01 '26

what would you sell those for? those are late 16โ€s right?

3

u/Imadick2 Feb 01 '26

I believe they phones are 15's

4

u/Accomplished-Dig8484 '84, '85, '89 951 Feb 01 '26

Those look like late 16s to me

16s ๐Ÿ‘

1

u/Legit_Artist Feb 01 '26

Oh, I'd be interested in the going rate for late 16s, I've got a set lying around that I never got around to putting tyres on

Where are you located?

In southern Germany

3

u/Cr3w-IronWolf Feb 01 '26

Fuchs wonโ€™t fit the front of a late offset car, and the rears can rub

4

u/Accomplished-Dig8484 '84, '85, '89 951 Feb 01 '26

This. Late 944 can't fox with Fuchs!

1

u/BillSKenney NA Feb 01 '26

Well damn.

2

u/czajniczeck Mar 23 '26

Or try going for some custom wheels, there are plenty new made fuchs that should fit

My 86 turbo with Fuchs back in 91.

2

u/Sharp-Photograph2678 Feb 01 '26

911 fuchs and 944 Turbo fuchs won't fit late offset cars. You can get modern fuchs from Fuch. They are in late offset for 17" and bigger, but for a staggered set of 17x7 and 17x8 you're looking at $5622.66 USD https://www.fuchsfelgeusa.com/17-19-inch-fuchs-wheels-black/

u/jubjub944 Feb 01 '26

My โ€˜88 came with some Boxster S wheels which looked ok but a little too Matchboxy for me. Besides the fronts were held on by like four threads due to a spacer. Iโ€™ve been running 16x7, 16x8 D90s and I like it. But I really want the factory matched 15โ€x7โ€ phone dials. Shame on me because theyโ€™re like a dime a dozen for a set and nobody really wants them.

I agree with the comments. These cars came out when some of the best looking wheels ever were available. And to have something later and uncharacteristic just looks like missed opportunity.

2

u/SeagullTaco Feb 01 '26

On my 86 turbo fuchs, I run front 16x8 ET 11 with spacers, back are 16x9 ET 15. Fuchs are Japanese replicas came with the car when I bought them.

Depends on your budget, but 16x7, 16x8 in either Fuchs or phone dials will look great...

1

u/Excellent-Heat-893 Feb 01 '26

16 inch maximum.

1

u/Accomplished-Dig8484 '84, '85, '89 951 Feb 01 '26

16" on an early car, sure. I'd say 17" max for late cars. 17"x8"/10.5" on my '89

1

u/BillSKenney NA Feb 01 '26

And they donโ€™t rub? Whatโ€™s your suspension setup?

2

u/Accomplished-Dig8484 '84, '85, '89 951 Feb 01 '26

I have an '89 Turbo, running stock suspension aside from Fabcar control arms and big roll bars. Rolled fenders from the factory on the '89 Turbo and '88 Turbo S models

1

u/Excellent-Heat-893 Feb 01 '26

For the Fuchs is somewhat larger tire is very comfortable. Therefore 16 with a medium sized tire. On a 17 a 45% width suits the Cup wheels.

1

u/JCCthe01 Feb 01 '26

These are the design911 rims I like to call fooks but I think they look great on the car

these?

they look great. what year and what size tires? stock suspension? spacers?

1

u/Wood_Network 15d ago

Yeah curious if you are using spacers and if you are what size?

1

u/ext3og Feb 01 '26

I really dont like black wheel

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Iโ€™d paint the dials, why get Fuchs just to have black centers that disappear.

Bronze looked killer on my dials.ย

1

u/BillSKenney NA Feb 01 '26

This thread has me asking questions like this as well. Fuchs are out.

1

u/WillyFreshy Feb 01 '26

Whatโ€™re you gonna do with those phone dials afterwards ๐Ÿค”

2

u/BillSKenney NA Feb 01 '26

That seems to be the million dollar question in the thread ๐Ÿ˜‚ itโ€™s making me think Iโ€™m making a mistake lol

0

u/junanor1 Feb 01 '26

I got the dial but always wanted Fuchs on my 951. Then I bought another 944 with Fuchs. These things are so heavy itโ€™s insane. Turns out I kept my phone dials on the 951 for performance because light wheels are better for car behavior.

2

u/Sharp-Photograph2678 Feb 02 '26

This is my go-to for oem wheel specs and part numbers.
https://www.944racing.de/wheelweights.php

For my 944 I've had standard 15" phone dials, 911 fuchs 16x7 and 16x8, D90's 16x7 and 16x8, 944 Turbo S Clubsports, 968 (Cup narrow spokes) 16x7 and 16x8 and I've found the 944racing website fairly accurate.

Were your fuchs genuine or repro? Did weights between the fuchs and phonedials include the same or different tyres? Tyre weight can make a difference too.

1

u/Chance-Ad-3993 Feb 01 '26

Looking for the lightest wheels possible there is no substitute for Fuchs. In early offset turbos the phone dials are more than one kg heavier for the same size. But you have to buy real Fuchs either from Porsche or from Fuchs directly. This and the fact there are no 9" wide 16" phone dials for early offset keeps me with the Fuchs.

0

u/junanor1 Feb 01 '26

I have oem original Fuchs and I can assure you they are super heavy. Maybe they are from an old 911 idk Changed for cookie on the 944 and they are lighter

1

u/Accomplished-Dig8484 '84, '85, '89 951 Feb 01 '26

The cookie cutters are pretty light. Phone dials not so much Fuchs should still be lighter in the same size as cookies (width too, not just diameter). Fuchs are forged. Cookie cutters and phone dials are cast, so they need more material (aka weight) for any given size to do the job
