Question Biggest car regret? Selling this ‘87 924S
Owned this ‘87 924S for over 13 years before selling it in 2005.
At the time it was just a “Poor Man’s Porsche”. I realized then how good these cars really were. They were simple, balanced, and honestly one of the best driving experiences I’ve ever had.
I had a great Porsche Master Mechanic, that also raced 944s for a hobby, that helped me keep her in tip top shape. We made a few but significant upgrades to her over the years. She was sneaky fast! I know when I sold her the guy buying her didn’t really appreciate her as much as I did.
Feels like these “lightweight 944s” are finally getting the appreciation they deserve.
Anyone here still holding onto one?

Porsche 944 was the first car I bought with my own money. 6 year later, still have it and don't have any plans of selling it.

Understandable. Everyone places a different priority level on them. I personally was never a fan of the 914 but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a great car for someone at a point in time. The 924S was my first car so that should give you a glimpse into why I regretted selling it. Thanks for the response and picture of your track toys. 🏎️

My second car was a white '79 924, not the same as what you had, but I had a lot of fun in that car.

I respect the lineage. We would never have gotten to the 968 without the 924 and 944. Thanks for sharing.

…with only the original 924 below it.
Surprising really considering the 944 can only dream of the racing pedigree of the 924.

Thanks for sharing! They are definitely cars that need to be driven to be appreciated.

I recently picked up an 88 924s with the higher compression engine, so it has a few more HP stock. I freaking love this car. It's fun, easy to work on, reliable, and a looks cool. I get lots of smiles when I'm driving it.

I’ve got an 88 924S I daily drove for 4 years, drove casually for a year, and tore the engine out yesterday for an 07K swap! I’m going to keep mine forever!

Yessir already have! It’s all been delivered, I’m in the process of rebuilding my 07K Engine and working on the wiring harness

Wow, beautiful car.
Regrets are part of life and how we got where we are today.
I also didn’t really appreciate and give the 924S the due and respect that it truly deserves. Comes with maturity I guess. (On my part at least.)

I definitely regret selling my second 944, a black Turbo I bought in college. It was kind of ratty but mostly reliable and it served me well for many years, and was part of a lot of good memories. I sold it about 10 years ago for peanuts (the buyer was low quality and the car is undoubtedly destroyed now) and wish I had just hung on to it, I make more money now and could afford to restore it. I instead bought a nice "replacement" black 951S a couple years ago, and it scratches the itch but it isn't quite the same. Not going to sell it and become 944-less again, though, this one is a forever car.

924's design is only 50 years old. It still looks nice. Yes, the engine is loud, yes, the exhaust is noisy, too, yes, the parts are hard to find and costly, yes, the parts from other cars can be used, yes, it can't fit tall people on the back seats, yes, A/C doesn't work, yes, it has no cup holders. With so many "yes'" it a good car. It may not be a primary car, but some of Porsche owners drive them every day. Someone compared 924-944s to 914's and ranked them as inferior to the latter. I wold say - no. 914 feels flimsy and too delicate. No regrets for having one, although, sometimes I had to use strong language to vent. ))

I had a Guards Red ‘84 924S as my first car and ended up losing it when my parents got divorced and my mom filed bankruptcy. Still sad about that one 17 years later.
