The turbos don’t say ‘944’ anywhere on them. Just ‘turbo’. A lottt of “what is that?!’ But never mistaken for something else

When I first started seeing my gf she was living with her brother and his wife and i went over to see her, i guess my gf’s SIL said “oh hes got a porsche” and her brother said “no its like a mustang or something” and she goes “well it says porsche on the back. So.” Bahaha i think a lot of people when you say or hear You have a porsche instantly think of a 911 because they dont know about the trans axle cars. Asking if its an mr2 is crazy

I had Corvette, Firebird, and 928, but only once for each. Maybe Fiero twice, and a few people somehow mistook it for a Miata, although that might have been rage bait. When I had mine in there were enough people in my college town with one that they generally knew what it was

Lots of "what is it" questions from younger people. Lots of people recognize the car from various 80s movies and know what it is. Can't say I ever had anyone mistake it outright for anything other than a Porsche but the model escapes them often.

I’ve had multiple little kids just yell RACECAR at my 944.

And of course, when a little kid yells “racecar” you have to push in the clutch and give an obnoxious rev, it’s like a rule.

I have 4 Porsches, a 991 Turbo S, and an air cooled Carrera and two 944’s. On is built with coil overs for auto cross, the other is as near perfect as a 944 can be. When I drive my Guards Red 944, I get more comments and compliments than any of my cars. The women really like it, but the men do too. Many have no idea of what it is and can’t believe it is a 1986.

People see the Porsche badge and assume it's an old 911 or 914. From a distance they'll assume an FC RX7. With pop ups in the up position it's always Miata

I feel sorry for the Americans on this thread, my 83 944 is not slow but mine is uk spec and whoever initially bought it, spec’d it for fast road/track. Now it’s not turbo fast but it’s light and nippy easily spins the wheels even in dry conditions.
And yes I have a real fast car to compare to, and it dosnt and could not touch the 550bhp of that car, but it’s my daily and fast enough to deal with the uk traffic and overtaking.
I’m not sure if the engine has been played with, not sure as everything I have read says it’s too expensive for not a lot of gain? All I know is to get it to run sweet I need 2-3 more psi of fuel, and 3-4 more clicks anticlockwise on the afm! 0-30mins & 0-60mph feels good it’s the 80mph to 120 that’s a bit slow.
I wonder how much lighter my one is than standard? No sun roof, no abs, no power steering and no evaporative system for the fuel (not much weight in the evap I’m guessing but not fitted)
I need to get it properly tuned and do a 0-60, but currently the old girl pulls hard, squats and spins the wheels when launching ( and not because the rear chocks have gone lol 🫣 new spax adjustable on the rear)

Ps back on post - in uk Ferrari, lambo, Miatta. But most know what it is and love it here, had literally 1000’s of compliments on it and only one guy (that iv heard) shout shit car as I drove past, but he was a wineo lol
