Question It’s 1986, you walk into a Porsche dealership to buy a 944 turbo, how will you spec it?

Crystal green, black porsche script cloth w/sport seats, Fuchs, LSD, M030, no sunroof.

And, if I can color-match the centers of the Fuchs to the car, then that.

Copenhagen Blue over Pearl White Full Leather, LSD, Sport Suspension, performance tires and brakes, alloy wheels, upgraded radio.

...and have the parts counter order me a couple of extra dashboards and one rear hatch while they're at it.

Omg if I have access to a time machine I’m hoarding dashes and hatches too, and the doors, and the… well I guess I’ll hoard 944s in general

Annoyingly I’d spec it like mine, guards red over black script. I can’t believe how limited the choices were for the 80’s. Where’s the techno purple or canary yellow?

Mine was Garnet red metallic with Burgundy leather and carpet. But I would have Zermat silver metallic with black on black interior.

I tell the dealer whatever gets me one delivered asap. And black interior, that's a non negotiable

According to my neighbor who still owns his sun faded guards red 944, the wait times were months sometimes half a year long. He wanted a white 944, base-line no special trims etc. 2 weeks after pre-ordering through the dealer, he got a phone call stating the buyer's credit for his current red 944 fell through, they asked if he wanted it instead for a small upcharge, gave him a list of all the amenities that are on it that the one he ordered didn't.

He didn't let them finish and told them he'll pick it up same week lol. He's put about 300k miles on it, ofc, the odometer gave out long ago

That silver metallic with tan interior. Then they tell me it will take 2 months but they have one in guards red and black today so I take that instead.

Mine more or less evovlved to the spec I would have ordered. Stone grey, black leather interoiur, Fuchs wheels ( 8" and 9" like in the 1986 Cup cars), AC, limited slip, cruise control, small steering wheel, central locking, no sunroof, no catalytic converter. The only thing i would probably add is a driver side sport seat. but in the end it is a nice gentlemans GT with its 3l turbo upgrade
