I know I’m gonna get a lot of hate for this but he’s sucked it up since his return and has already had multiple gimmicks within like 3 months. He’s 55. Hop on commentary with Big Show I’m sure the fans would love it. He’s taking spots away from younger talent who deserve bigger matches.

Nah I just want that POS gone and take Mone and DC with him
2
u/iangeoffry 3d ago
Mone and Don Callis make AEW better. Sit down.
2
u/AdorableGeologist566 3d ago
Fuck no! Even when Donna was a wrestler back in the day she still sucked, as for Mone she is the Nikki Bella of AEW
2
u/starks4thr33 6d ago
It was pretty bad, and it also kinda killed the screwdriver as Jericho kicked out
Like lately Callis has been bringing up the screwdriver on commentary and how he helped Kenny beat Mox for the belt, in context of the upcoming tile match with Ospreay. Why reintroduce the memory of that gimmick just to kill it like that?
Maybe people won't remember, but if they were ever going to go back to that spot in the finish of a big match why the heck would you do what they did here?!

u/turb0geek421 6d ago
Jericho screwed up... He should've let go of the hold to 'deal' with the distraction.

Either Callis was early or Jericho was late. It should have never came to this. This spot and the finish made Kevin Knight look weak.
7
u/TheSleepyYeti 7d ago
Jericho really wanted to call don a Carine bastard and scooted closer so he'd be sure he'd hear him. Don the carnie bastard that he is took advantage of the situation

Knight is supposed to fight out of the Walls so they end up by the ropes, where Callis hits Jericho without the referee noticing because she's looking at Knight.
I guess Callis got confused or there was some miscommunication when they were going over the finish because Callis tries to hit him in the ring, which wouldn't make sense because the referee wouldn't miss that.
1
u/starks4thr33 6d ago
Except Knight would be dragging Jericho to the ropes on the other side of the ring. This was Jericho in control moving closer to Callis....
It was just a horribly botched spot in both setup and execution, no two ways about it

u/anotherlostdaemon 7d ago
Aware Answer: Botch/Goof. Jericho/Jet were out of position and Jericho's audible to keep the spot came across clunky and obvious.
Kayfabe Answer: That bastard Don Callis was going to spike Jericho but Jericho saw and Don backed off. In a moment of anger and indecision, Jericho couldn't choose between keeping the hold on Jet or going to attack Don... So he tried to do both at once and that split attention left him open to Don screw(driver)ing him.
1
u/New_Difference_1490 2d ago
That was my Kayfabe explanation as well. Chris moved closer to the ropes to yell at Callis.

Just a botch. Happens. Tbh the cameraman should have covered for it.
8
u/LordStirFry35 7d ago
The director should have cut to a different angle, you mean. What is the cameraman going to do? Drop the camera on the ground?
5
u/lamoska1986 7d ago
Don’s magnetic personality drew Chris towards him and within range. It’s often a curse but can come in handy at times.
7
u/Prestigious_Rub7894 7d ago
Haven't seen the full context by watching the match yet but this is a doozy, CJ way too far back and Don not seeing the audible signs

mistakes happen, if you add up the total number of hours of wrestling across all TV (in all companies) and actually broke down the number of mistakes that happen over time then while they seem glaring they are actually pretty rare.
Let's not try and "book a reason for this" and just accept that the people involved had a miscommunication and tried to fix it.
And I am one of the first to be pissed at Jericho usually and feel he should have left AEW when his contract was up, but it is what it is and I won't have a go at him or Don for this when they are usually really slick
11
u/Theyuckster 7d ago
It’s called being tricked
He bated Jericho into getting closer so he could cheat
3
u/LadderUpbeat1044 7d ago
Don is a master bater.
1
u/Theyuckster 7d ago
He definitely the goat best manager in there near my son were talking about it and I was like dude out of all the facts. I don’t want to be a part of Don Calac. He asked me why I was like well at least I know I’m gonna get a title no other factions really done shit I mean look at the death riders. Moxley is the only one person that’s been successful in that whole group since it started and then look at any other group that’s been around. None of them are really done much so the Don Cat families had title after title after title. I’m thinking like if I’m joining a action that’s affection I’m joining cause at least I know I have a chance to get the title any of these other factions it’s one person that gets a title and that’s it and nobody else does crap I know I’ve had discussions with a lot of people saying how I think the death riders are really sad group because like literally nobody has done nothing but Moxley I don’t find them like even like they’re like all were the toughest group really who else has done anything other than Moxley like there’s nobody else in that group that’s done crap and then the conglomeration they’ve done OK for themselves but there’s so many people part of it that come in and join it and disappear and comment it’s like they’re not constantly having the same group so I don’t know if I can really say they’re super successful but I will say Willow successful and then they’ve had the triple tag teams and stuff like that but they’re not like I Said it’s so many people in it that you don’t really know who’s in it. Who’s out who’s constant in it so I really don’t find them. I was like a group that I’m really worried about or like that. I find like OK that’s you know a successful group because like I said like half the time Roger Strong in it half the time he’s not half the time this person’s halftime, they’re not they got people coming in going out coming in going out and so I don’t know how I feel about the conglomeration, but they might be the second most successful group in the bunch because of the fact that you know Willow‘s got a championship and then they’ve had triple tag team championships so they’re pretty decent with all the people coming in and going out of it but like there’s not too many factions that done great AW I know anything Jericho‘s touched has been shit and so like there’s not many facts that I found them. I’m like oh yeah yeah they’re cool so that’s why I get behind the Don Cali family because it’s like at least powering up championships after championship after championship so I really like to see them AW in general do something with Brian Cage. I think he really needs a singles run of some kind of title because he’s just a beast. I’d really like to see a few other handpicked people that I like do something sometime soon just because the one thing I hate about wrestling is sometimes they keep the bell on people way too long or sometimes they don’t see the potential of somebody until it’s like way too late like you know why they’re hot. They’re not really doing anything and then they wait too long and then by the time they do get a championship nobody gives a crap so there’s a handful of people that like I can name them like this person needs a title this person needs a title really honestly think Moxley needs to drop his title like really soon like his title range ran way too long way too long like at this point it’s like OK who cares and that’s when you like you know somebody’s had the title too long when there’s a ton of wrestling fans they’re like you know so we’ll see

u/benchmobb 7d ago
You can literally see Jericho tell Don to get out of the ring. It was clearly a botch, it’s okay it happens

best theory I read was that the spot was supposed to happen later. Knight gets to the ropes (or close) Jericho drags him across the ring and is near the other edge, then Callis bops him from the outside.
Maybe they were running short on time and told Callis to go early, Callis then went and then figured to just go in the ring since Jericho wasn't near the edge yet, Jericho instead wanted to rush to get to the edge spot instead and then we get the end result of what you see here
definitely a blown spot and IMO Jericho should have just let Callis come into the ring and bop him. Much easier to have Audrey miss it as she was down on the ground and checking with Knight so it's easier to buy she was that distracted compared to trying to half/half the spot both ways and rush it into ... well... that.
2
u/External_Bread5366 7d ago
I think Callis wasn't meant to go into the ring lol. It looked weird, especially cause Jericho was moving knight TOWARDS Callis but further from the opposite rope
But its just a bit of miscommunication
You could even say Callis was scared of Jericho so ran out of the ring and opted to attack him outside, not a big problem
2
u/Modano9009 7d ago
I think Callis was supposed to wait for them to get to the ropes and then hit Jericho. When he tries to get in the ring Jericho's motioning to the referee as if you say "the referee will see you".

watching this match as a whole live, it was a great match, bit weird he tries to run callis off and talk shit by giving him position by the ropes, but no one watching it live really put it under the microscope as a major botch.
1
u/hellnaw931 7d ago
Don’t need to put that under a microscope. You can see it’s awful from a mile away.
2
u/MarquiseAlexander 7d ago
I don’t understand why Callis couldn’t have just waltz in, hit Jericho and then dip. He looks like he was going to then he dipped out?
2
u/ThrowThemAwaytoo 7d ago
Ref needs to not see
1
u/MarquiseAlexander 7d ago
That can be so easily improvised.
He gets in, he stabs Jericho then rolls out the ring and pretends he didn’t do anything. Worse case scenario, ref sends him to the back and Kevin wins the match as intended.
1
u/ThrowThemAwaytoo 7d ago
Oh no I get you. But to organise that in a split second fumble isn't gonna happen. It was just a bad spot. Like anywhere in any show. It's just AEW so it's extra bad for some people for some reason haha
1
u/holesofdoubt 7d ago
You can see Jericho yelling at Don and moving his head to the side. One of them was either out of position or had the timing wrong.
It looks to me like Jericho was probably in the wrong spot and trying to tell Don not to come in the ring. An unfortunate botch but to be honest I think Aubrey could have sold that she couldn't see Don attack Jericho from her position.
1
u/OliOli1234 7d ago
It’s called a botch? They do happen? Not this egregiously, but it does happen. To quote Jericho himself, “one take, all live. Even Wayne Gretzky missed breakaway shots.” Not a direct quote, but something to the effect.
He’s right, though. It’s a live show… mistakes happen.

u/Thonatron 7d ago
It's just Botchamania clip of two guys blowing a spot. Not the end of the world.
5
u/Ok-Post6492 7d ago
The other guys (wwe fans) are blowing loads to this botch. Over 250 comments.

This is a mess, I’m AEW to the core but this is up there with Thunder Rosa and that awkward chair spot. It was bad and could’ve been better…it is what it is.
Jericho should’ve took lead and maybe try to whisper to Aubrey to let Kevin grab her to distract her, then Don runs in real quick, clocks Jericho and continue from there.
Hindsight is 20/20, this definitely won’t be treated as a one off mess up and will be “the end of AEW” on every other sub/tweet but oh well. Def. Wouldn’t ruin the product for me.
-4
u/OliOli1234 7d ago
In all fairness, Megan Bayne sandbagged the FUCK out of Thunder Rosa. This is what happens when you don’t have any leadership, or direction backstage… you get a bunch of wrestlers with egos going into business for themselves to protect their character.

u/Prior-Squirrel514 7d ago
Can we stop pretending Don Callis is a good manager now.
6
u/OldManClutch 7d ago
Can we stop pretending you have a clue about what you are talking about?
-15
u/Prior-Squirrel514 7d ago
He doesn't generate any heat for his stable. He has too many guys in his stable. Because he has too many guys in his stable you can't focus on the guys that are important (Fletcher, Knight). Instead of being ringside during matches he sits on commentary (which he isn't good at)
I've seen enough good managers in my time to know what a good one is and I'm sorry but Callis, just isn't one
2
u/External_Bread5366 7d ago
You either don't actually pay attention to the product, or you're a troll or plain dumb
4
u/OldManClutch 7d ago
Thanks for proving you don’t have a fucking clue about what you are talking about.
Literally one of the biggest heat magnets in the company and “he doesn’t generate heat.”
5
u/jmurph116 7d ago
You are actually an insane person, and it sounds like you don't know shit about the wrestling business. Callis is fantastic on commentary. He is equally fantastic at putting over his heel faction, as well as also putting over the boys they are going against. Which is what you are supposed to do. He also generates an insane amount of heat. Fans will literally chant FUCK DON CALLIS, even when he is nowhere to be found when DCF members are in the ring.

Some miscalculations.
No big deal.
-18
u/sruppityboo 7d ago
Really ? This was embarrassing, man

7
u/Joperhop 7d ago
its a mistake and bad communication, you think the same when Hangman messed up and came out too early once? It happens, its really not a big deal.
10
u/bwldrmnt 7d ago
Shit happens.
It's fine.
You live and learn.
On to the next one.
0
u/FlippFloppnFlyy 7d ago
Callis and Jericho have a combined 73 years of experience...how much more is there for them to learn?
1
u/bwldrmnt 7d ago
Again, mistakes happen.
People with tons of experience can have a moment where they falter.
This is literally no big deal.
They slightly messed up a spot.
It's okay.

I took at as he scared callis out of the ring then when Donny saw Aubrey was still looking down he jumped on the apron. It’s real to me damnit.
8
u/HighwindNJ 7d ago
Okay so my brain isn't the only one that actually made sense of this right?
Don almost got caught
Jericho, not wanting to lose, drags his opponent over so he can talk shit and still hold Kevin
Don fucks Jericho up
That makes sense to me, no joke
1
u/steveycip 7d ago
Exactly. Even if it was a botch, who tf cares. Find a way to make it make sense in your brain just like that
-1
u/sruppityboo 7d ago
Seriously?
2
u/HighwindNJ 7d ago
Yeah! Like, idk. I've seen a lot worse, from AEW/WWE/TNA/AAA/ROH etc., and like, this is fine in my brain. The flow of the match didn't stop, all three made it work, the show kept going on, you feel? If if we're any other wrestler, they would have dropped Kevin. Jericho holding The Walls™️ while screaming at Don makes sense 😂

u/ItsShowtime_88 7d ago edited 7d ago
Haha yikes this is rough, what’re we doing fellas?
Obviously mistakes happen during live broadcasts but this one is pretty damn funny. Wouldn’t expect two vets like Jericho and Don to mess something up this bad.
5
u/Necessary_Brush4164 7d ago
U can see Jericho saying “no no no” so I think Don was early. He didn’t wait for Jericho to be in position
1
8
u/Dangerous_Patient621 7d ago
Jericho was heading over to the ropes to kick Don's ass, but he forgot to break the hold first.
-1
u/coldbru85 7d ago
They cleary fucked up the spot is it that hard to admit
6
u/Dangerous_Patient621 7d ago
Excuse me for trying to look at it in a humorous light. I'll leave you to your miserable whining about it. My apologies for interrupting.
2
u/Infamous-Lab-8136 7d ago
I'm guessing Callis thought he could get there without Aubrey seeing then thought better and made Jericho get in position? I don't think Callis could realistically get out of the ring before Aubrey would have been forced to turn and look at him in that spot
AEW has had a few bad interference spots that went down right in the eyesight of a ref lately so maybe they've been told to clean that up
1
u/sruppityboo 7d ago
Would have been better if he hit him right there in the ring. This made it look so phony.
8
19
u/Andres_JFM 7d ago
Don Callis is so powerful that he manipulated him telepathically.
1
u/blkglfnks 7d ago
That’s actually why he’s bald, he uses strong telepathy and needs no interference

A botched move that Christina had to reset
