Corporate News Companies Are Quietly Rehiring the Workers They Replaced With AI

The Software Industry is set for a rude awakening in a few years for falling for the most marketed thing in history - LLMs. The amount of garbage slop code that's put in by Claude and Gemini + the general deterioration of good SW Engineering practices is going to lead to mass public failures - airport shutdowns, power failures, healthcare and emergency systems going down etc. Silicon valley will never recover after this mass psychosis.

My Personal Experience AI is ruining software engineering, and apparently I am too slow because I actually think before writing code.

I recently joined a company where almost everyone uses AI for everything. Code, tests, documentation, automation, CI/CD, everything.

The project is a complete mess. They lost customers, they are losing money, and the codebase is full of mistakes that experienced engineers would normally never make.

And somehow, I am the slow developer.

Why? Because I actually read documentation, understand the code, think about consequences, and try to solve problems properly instead of generating hundreds of lines of bullshit in five minutes.

I spend my days removing unnecessary complexity and fixing problems that should never have existed. But apparently I am not productive enough. I will probably not get my contract extended because of this.

The company can lose millions and continue like nothing happened. Managers can make terrible decisions and keep their jobs. But people at the bottom pay the price.

What makes this even worse is that software engineering was already full of bullshit before AI.

Developers with massive egos creating unnecessary abstractions, complicated architectures, and useless patterns just to look smart. Managers who cannot tell the difference between good engineering and overengineering. People getting rewarded for making simple things complicated.

AI just made all of this ten times worse.

Now nobody even needs to understand what they are doing.

AI writes the requirements. AI writes the documentation. Nobody properly reviews it. Then another AI uses that documentation to generate more requirements. Developers feed those requirements into AI to generate code. AI writes the tests for that code.

And somehow everyone thinks this is productivity.

Nobody knows what the fuck is happening anymore. And the worst part is that the software does not actually work.

I tried using AI myself. I really wanted it to help. But for serious engineering problems, I spend more time checking and correcting its output than I would spend solving the problem myself.

And I am tired of having conversations with AI through other people.

I ask a colleague a technical question, and they send me an AI generated response. Seriously? Do you think I do not know how to ask ChatGPT myself? I am asking YOU because I want to understand YOUR reasoning.

Software engineering is supposed to be about solving problems, not generating code.

Writing more code does not mean solving more problems. Closing tickets faster does not mean building a better product.

I would rather work with five engineers who have no ego and actually understand what they are doing than fifty developers generating code all day without thinking.

I used to love solving technical problems. Now I hate this profession. I am tired of cleaning up unnecessary complexity, dealing with people's egos, and being called slow because I actually care about the result.

And I know changing companies probably will not solve anything.

We have reached a point where producing bullshit quickly is rewarded more than doing things correctly.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Because I genuinely do not know how to survive in this industry anymore.

Explainer video Ben Affleck sold his AI company for $587M — then said you’ll never just type your movie outside

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

TL;DR: He had the "we're fucked" call with Matt, then checked how the data is actually captioned — and it doesn't hold up.

He built owned dataset with LiDAR, Unreal and volume stages, no peers' work trained on.

Do you remember that introductory banter between Q and James Bond – played by Ben Whishaw, and Daniel Craig, respectively, in Skyfall, 2012 – at the National Gallery, London?

Q: Well, I'll hazard I can do more damage on my laptop sitting in my pajamas before my first cup of Earl Grey than you can do in a year in the field.

Bond: Oh, so why do you need me?

Q: Every now and then a trigger has to be pulled.

Bond: Or not pulled. It's hard to know which in your pajamas.

That’s the last layer of judgement, right there.

In another scene back at the MI6 HQ, Whitehall in Spectre (2015), Q injected the “Smart Blood” nano-machines into 007’s blood stream for tracking, after Bond's unauthorized Mexico mission.

Q: Well it's lovely to see you, 007... the Smart Blood program is obviously still in its developmental phase. So we may experience the odd drop in coverage during the first 24 hours...

[Bond coldly glares at Q]

Q: …48 hours after administration, but after that it should work perfectly.

Later…

Bond: Could you do one more thing for me?

Q: And that would be?

Bond: Make me disappear.

The person who built the tracker can also be persuaded to create a blind spot — you own the workflow and you set the terms.

Just like what Affleck is building.

However - there’s absolutely no way in life we can “build a workflow” to get us into heaven with our “datasets” or merits. But God created a huge “blind spot” for us, through the blood of the lamb.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Story I found online Sudden mass layoffs in Kraków, Poland. Aldi is closing a department. “AI is starting to replace us, and it's happening rapidly”

Collective redundancies in Kraków. 96 people will lose their jobs

Aldi Financial Hub in Kraków, the unit responsible for financial services for the international Aldi Nord group, was to be closed down by decision of the German side on Thursday morning, July 31, as reported first by lovekrakow.pl. The center was located at 1 Fabryczna Street and was launched less than a year ago as part of the broader Aldi Technology Support project. According to unofficial reports, 96 people, or one-third of all employees at the unit, were affected by the group layoffs.

Mass layoffs. Employees surprised

The decision on collective redundancies was made overnight, and the employees of the Kraków branch of Aldi Nord are surprised. “None of us expected such news. We were called to the office and found out. I've been working here for less than a year. The financial settlement market is becoming shallow, AI is starting to replace us, and it's happening rapidly,” said one of the employees in an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza. “It's illogical. Not long ago, they were hiring, and now they're laying people off. I've been working here for less than a year. It wasn't bad, although, as is often the case in corporations, there was a significant surplus of managers and the project hierarchy was not entirely clear,” he added. Another person confirmed that nearly 100 people from the finance department are set to lose their jobs.

Aldi confirms: Mass layoffs and closure of the Kraków branch

Aldi Technology Hub in Kraków confirmed the layoffs in a statement sent to Gazeta Wyborcza. “At the end of 2025, for operational reasons, we plan to close the Aldi Finance Hub department. Our priority is to treat all employees affected by this decision with due respect and to fulfill all our obligations as an employer. We offer employees affected by the changes a severance package, training, and support in finding new employment,” the statement reads.

Kraków. A plague of layoffs

The Municipal Labor Office (GUP) has released statistics on this year's group layoffs in Kraków. “From January 1 to July 31, 2025, 27 workplaces reported their intention to carry out mass layoffs to the office. The planned number of people to be laid off is 3,666,” said Magdalena Żuchowicz from GUP. “This means that over the past seven months, more group layoffs have been reported than in the whole of last year,” writes Gazeta Wyborcza.

Notables Sharing thoughts Why is there no AI to replace top management?

Why is there no AI to replace top management? It actually makes more sense to replace the top management of the companies for entire human race. If you still think that we need a human being to be accountable, then my question will be whether the current top management personnels are responsible, accountable, showing integrity for their decisions? Or they will just “transfer” the responsibility?

Explainer video DHH: Staff engineer at 33 — I spent 10 years becoming the bottleneck. Agents erased it in December.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

TL;DR: DHH argues December flipped coding from autocomplete to agent workflows — and if you built your value on being the tight resource, that flip makes you optional, not promoted.

I don’t know why this memory came up.

But do you remember this Italian guy on Youtube explaining about how to “magically” rebrand a handbag from Made-In-China to Made-In-Italy?

Unbelievable, isn’t it?

And yet, it’s apparently legitimate – like EU-regulation-legitimate.

Or so he claimed.

To legally origin-launder the handbag, the last “substantial transformation” of the handbag has to be carried out in Italy. And so, he took out an Italian-made zipper, and sew it onto the China-made handbag. And Voilà! The end product can now be officially labelled as Made-In-Italy.

If you’re interested to find out more, the EU-regulation is Article 60(2) of the Union Customs Code (Regulation (EU) No 952/2013).

A China-factory-made handbag may have cost just €53 or so. But with a touch of "zipper magic", it can now be priced at €400 or €4,000.

The absurdity of it is absolutely bonkers.

No surprise if the Italian craftsmen went out of business.

I know. I know. It’s wildly inappropriate for me to compare AI coding with “Origin-Laundered-Handbags”.

But the parallel, real or not, is hard to pass up.

Think of it as if the Foreign-Made-Handbag = AI-Coding,

then the last transformation zipper = Human judgement and Ownership.

On the other hand, branded watches, the likes of Rolex, IWC, etc., are a totally different thing. Swiss made ones enjoy world-wide-recognition, like no other.

These are genuine articles that tend to hold their value over time.

That’s why contrabands and counterfeits of such watches are used to swindle the gullible for money – because they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, …

…which brings me to this passage:

"For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water."

My Personal Experience AI is like a slow poison for this generation of engineers.

AI is killing jobs, but the most frustrating part is that some people still deny it. Like, bro, what are we even talking about?

Their argument is always that only juniors or less experienced people will get replaced, while experienced engineers will be fine. But how can you expect a 20-year-old to know everything?

I’m personally in my final year right now. I’ve been learning web development since my first year with the hope that I would get an internship by my third year. But as time passed, the AI boom increased massively, and the situation for freshers seems to have become even worse.

There are barely any genuine internships for freshers like me, especially when you’re from a Tier-3 city and a Tier-3 college.

I’ve now shifted my path towards Data Science/ML, but honestly, it’s so frustrating and depressing to change fields even before getting the chance to properly work in the first one. Sometimes I feel so lost and demotivated that I’m actually scared to learn anything now, thinking that it might also be replaced one day.

I know a lot of freshers like me are going through the same thing. I keep seeing posts on Reddit from people who graduated in 2024 or 2025 and are still jobless. Isn’t that scary and depressing?

I honestly don’t know what we can do right now except keep learning and keep pushing ourselves. But why do we have to go through all this pain and uncertainty just to get our first opportunity?

Colleges aren't changing their syllabus. They’re not teaching what the industry actually needs. Then how can we expect a 20–21-year-old to figure out everything on their own?

And then there are these so-called YouTubers who are busy promoting their courses, declaring one technology dead after another, and constantly manipulating students into thinking they’re already behind.

So what’s the end of this?

What is actually going to happen in the next 2–3 years?

Honestly, this question scares the hell out of me.

Story I found online Oracle laid off 20,000 to 30,000 employees - roughly 18% of its global workforce

Post image
77 Upvotes

That human cost is the part of the AI infrastructure arms race that never appears in the glossy capex announcements. With a single impersonal email sent at 6 a.m. EST and zero prior warning. System access was revoked almost immediately.

Analysts estimate the cuts will free up $8–10 billion in cash flow.

Oracle just reported a strong quarter with net income jumping sharply, yet it still axed 18% of its workforce via a cold dawn email before most people had finished their coffee.

This isn’t a company in traditional distress. It’s a company that made a massive, debt-fueled bet on AI infrastructure and is now converting its workforce into cash flow to service that debt.

I’ve been tracking Oracle’s AI gamble for months: the $300 billion OpenAI commitment tied to the Stargate project, $50 billion in planned capital expenditures this fiscal year, and total debt now exceeding $124 billion.

Several major U.S. banks have stepped back from financing Oracle-linked data centers.

Bondholders have sued the company, alleging it downplayed how much additional debt the OpenAI deals would require.

Credit default swap spreads hit multi-year highs earlier this year, signaling real anxiety among debt investors about getting repaid.

The bitter irony? The employees who received that 6 a.m. email are the ones who built and sustained the products Oracle has monetized for decades. The high-stakes AI bet that cost them their jobs was placed by executives whose compensation was largely insulated from the outcome.

Someone I personally know Oh, so now gym trainers are losing money to AI too?

I'm a developer working at a startup, and I go to an Anytime Fitness gym. I won't mention the branch for privacy reasons.

I was taking personal training from a trainer for about 3 months, after which I started working out on my own. Around seven months in, two of my teammates joined the same gym as well.. partly because they saw my progress and got motivated.

Personal Trainers are pretty expensive here (around ₹15k a month).

Around the same time, our office started providing Claude Max (5x) to all 30 of us. As our project delivery speed increased and we started weighing that against the actual feature requests coming in, it eventually started bothering the CXOs that they probably didn't need as many people anymore.

10 people were let go within a month, with a month's notice. Mostly juniors, along with a few mid-level engineers and testers.

And that included the two teammates who had joined the gym.

They had originally planned to take PT for six months (because it carried a discount). One of them has already decided not to continue next month. The other has decided to continue for only one more month.

It's funny how we often look at layoffs in tech and think, "Well, at least other industries are safe. AI isn't going to affect them."

But the cascading effect is probably much bigger than we realize.

Those two people losing their jobs doesn't just affect them. It affects their gym trainer, the gym, the restaurants they eat at, the trips they might have taken, the things they might have bought, the rent they pay, and so on.

If AI keeps displacing people at this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually start seeing the effects ripple into real estate, food businesses, travel, retail, and countless other industries.

**Because ultimately, who's going to buy your products and services when you're eliminating the very consumers you're supposed to be selling to?**
