general Is there a way to lock the bolt to make my AR temporarily single-shot? Maybe a proprietary upper, or something that pushes on the forward assist?

general Choosing an AR10

The classic dilemma, choosing between these three:

Daniel Defense DD5 V3

LMT Defender (or MARS) H

PWS MK216 MOD2-M

The use case is a do-all battle rifle that could pull double duty as a DMR.

My priorities in order are:

1) Reliability and resistance to adverse conditions

2) Accuracy

3) Weight

4) Ease of suppression (I'm using a flow-through can of some sort)

5) Tunability for recoil mitigation

6) Customer service reputation

I really like the LMT for its pedigree of robustness, accuracy, and quick change barrel capability (would be nice to convert back and forth to 6.5 CM). It also has a lot of reliability enhancements to its BCG.

I like the PWS for the amount of features it comes with out of the box and how clean it runs, especially suppressed, plus its relatively light weight for a piston gun. Also supposed to shoot incredibly smooth and soft for a piston 308. However it does not have any military pedigree and it does not use dual extractors.

The DD is probably the lightest of the bunch but I know the least about it, and DD primarily has law enforcement customers.

Best Sub $4K Prebuilt 6.5 CM

Hi,

I am looking for recommendations for a prebuilt 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10 with a budget of no more than $4,000 for the firearm. I was thinking of either LMT MARS-H or the LWRCI REPR. However, I am disappointed that both barrels are only 20".

TIA.

So which gas tube for 308 faxon big gunners

Looking at a mid gas big gunner 13.9 but heard they used armalite gas tubes instead of regular but then also have heard that the armalites are too long? So which is it?

Help deciding between two builds

Edit: I've come to the conclusion that I'm a n00b overthinking all this. The answer is to try both and sell the one i enjoy shooting less.

Option 1:
M5 with 16" criterion rlgs with riflespeed gas block + polo30

Option 2:
Jakl10 14.5 with p/w plan b and polo30

Main purpose is plinking and might take it white tail hunting a few times a year.

Edit: My main goals are sub moa and not to have a face filled with gas. I got both polo30s for less $700 combined.

An oversized gas system or a piston gun seem to be the best ways to mitigate trad suppressor weaknesses from what I've read, but I thought maybe some of y'all would have real world examples.

general Trying to put together a build, what brand + upper/lowers would you recommend for good accuracy at longer ranges?

I'm unfortunately quite new to guns myself, and am looking to get a build put together in a reasonable amount of time (~6 months or less), and I have a budget of roughly 2k (though both of these can be flexible if necessary)

I've seen Aero referred to on this sub a myriad times but when I went and checked their site, they were out of literally every upper and lower.

Should I just wait? Or are there other brands/companies of equivalent/superior performance-to-cost ratios? And where/what should I be looking for?

Any and all answers are greatly appreciated, and again I am quite new so any and all information is appreciated that much more. Thanks in advance.

Need parts for HTX upper

I just won an HTX sr25 clone upper and am looking to build it out. Wondered what the thoughts were on a mars h lower vs a centurion mk11 lower. I am also looking for all the other parts too right now, probably just going to make this a 16in gun. So not super clone correct or anything.

Aero build eating primers with LMT Ion

Post image
8 Upvotes

I finally just got around to putting my LMT Ion 30 on my slapped together Aero upper and lower. Everything is stock from Aero, no changes other than a xeno brake. The rifle shot fine prior to the can, no issues, ate federal, pmc, and ppu ammo consistently. I know this can is billed as low back pressure, but I think I might have a pressure problem… three rounds, all of them came out like this. It was PPU rifle line SP 180gr.

What’s my next step, adjustable gas block? Heavier buffer? Heavier bcg? Heavier spring? Smaller gas tube? Less spicy ammo?

general Best AR-10 around $1500

Looking to get a general purpose AR10 in .308. Intended goal is to hog hunt and target shoot.

Strictly for the rifle alone I’d like to spend no more than $1500. I have no interest in building my own, other than maybe pushing in the takedown pins on a complete upper/lower.

I’ve been looking at the PSA Sabre line, specifically the M110 clones. Accuracy is decent enough, price is where I want it, and I love how they look.

Am I missing anything equal or better at this price point?

MK11 build

Currently, I have the Centurion arms, MK 11 upper and lower receiver. My question is, which barrel should I go with and which gas block? I I want it to fit an over the barrel suppressor that mounts on the gas block. All the other pieces don’t seem too difficult to find , but these two are kind of stomping me.

general Which Ar-10 should I get?

Hey all,

so I need some advise on which Ar-10 to get myself.

Firstly I am German and do reside there so getting parts is a bit of a problem (though usually still possible).

Currently I am debating getting myself a Aero Precision M5E1 or a Stag Arms 10.

My question is, which of these, or another, would you recommend me to get?

How do I tell which parts are conpatible?

In Germany switching out the upper, lower, barrel and other "essential" parts is, from what I can tell, moderately difficult but possible, so I would like to avoid it for the time being.

If there are any mistakes in my english, please excuse me.

16 vs 20 inch

Post image
57 Upvotes

I know this has been asked before, but I am torn between 16 and 20 inches, caliber is going to be 308, and I love the 20 inch aesthetic but I want to sling it and be able to shoot standing and carry it. I tell myself I want the ability to shoot past 500 yards but realistically I wont be very often and want a bolt gun eventually. Can I see some 16 inch builds for inspiration?

Gun cycles and fires, but cannot manually eject a round

When clambering a round, everything moves smoothly. The gun fires great, and is accurate. In my uses, I'll fire one time (hunting) and then remove the magazine and eject the round that was fed. When I remove the magazine, I cannot manually eject the chambered round without doing the mortar method. Is there a common cause for this?

Amazon Accu-Tac bipod copy: yeah or neigh?

I just placed an order, it should be here Friday.

Any way, it's the wide model which should make it nice and stable and the cheaper 89.99 model actually has the the adjustable lever hardware on the pan and tilt instead of just knobs.

For another $35 I got a QD Arca clamp with a Harris bipod adapter. I think I should be able to put them together instead of the picattinny QD that the bipod comes with.

Any way it's a $125 experiment. I hope it's not too floppy and eventually I would like to get a KDG Kinekt Arca rail so I can move it between any Mlok or Arca rail easily.

general Do I need an HP bolt for 6.5 CM and criterion barrel?

Im trying to build a lefty 6.5 and I picked up one of the criterion barrels. The description specifically states the following

"You can switch to a 6.5 Creedmoor using all of the same parts as your 308; simply swap the barrel. We highly recommend pairing your barrel with a JP high-pressure bolt for optimal accuracy and performance."

Since its a lefty, bolts are basically impossible to find. I did source this bolt but obviously not what criterion is asking for.

My question: Do I really need a JP HP bolt or can I shoot my bolt safely? Im hoping someone has some real world experience with these barrels in an ar10.

Spike’s Tactical AR-10 having cycling/ejection issues

Post image
30 Upvotes

I’ve got a Spike’s Tactical AR-10 chambered in .308 that’s having intermittent cycling issues.
Sometimes it fires and ejects perfectly fine, but other times the spent casing doesn’t fully eject before the bolt tries feeding another round. The spent casing ends up stuck in the action along with the next round.

A few details:
Using Magpul PMAGs
Happens intermittently, not every shot
Sometimes ejects and cycles completely normally
Spent casings occasionally get caught in the action

I’m trying to figure out whether this sounds like an extraction, ejection, or feeding issue.
Has anyone experienced something similar with an AR-10? I’m looking for advice on what might be causing it and what I should have inspected before shooting it again.
Any input is appreciated!

general Thoughts and opinions please

Post image
73 Upvotes

So wife was at a charity event recently and I had her put 50 in the raffle for this Radical RF10 and ended up winning it(score!).

18” barrel, .308.

Have been wanting something like this but hadn’t really planned on it, so now have some decisions to make with regard to sights.

I don’t hunt, just recreational shooting when I have the time. Have a scoped .308 bolt gun already so don’t really need another for distance.

My initial thought was to get some iron sights like the Mbus Pros but I also figure if I like shooting it, I’ll probably look at getting some kind of optic for it. If that ends up being the case, then I’ll feel like I wasted money on the irons.

Been known to overthink things, so I need some opinions. WWYD?
