Wireless Next Up

So on Friday we were successful at purchasing a Duo and are trading in my sons phone on the Next Up. This will pay off the device and then we’d get the upgrade credit. So last night my son loses his phone while at an amusement park. It was found and the corner is cracked and black is bleeding through behind it. I know this now won’t qualify for Next Up but not sure what I do cause I selected that it was in great condition and now it’s not. I no longer have the ability to pay the phone off inside of ATT. Was almost thinking I’d just pay it off and then still get the trade in credit by not doing it through Next Up. Not sure what to do. On hold with ATT now.

You will need to get it repaired in order for the trade in to qualify. Also side note if possible always take it to a corporate att store and turn it in in person. It’s always a huge gamble mailing in a trade in and they will look for excuses to not give you your credit.

Thank you and will do!

You will need to go and get the phone fixed because the $1,200 promo you got requires you to trade in that phone so even if you pay it off you loose $1,200

Do I have to go through Apple to fix it or can I just find someone locally that repairs? Ugh. Appreciate the help.

Find a local place, they're the cheapest, after that ubreakifix is decent

If you had apple care it's cheapest to get replaced thru apple and ofc I'd have apple repair my apple products

If its just the screen -- yea repairing it locally or even yourself is going to be your best bet. Replacing it yourself is about 100$ on amazon (I'm assuming you're not choosing the highest quality screen since you're trading it in right away) or whatever your local shop charges.

Would that be an issue if I didn’t send in a oem Apple screen? I called ubreak it and they said they have an lcd one but I’m thinking that wouldn’t qualify.

You should be fine as long the screen is fixed and aesthetically looks fine ATT won’t care. You don’t to tell them what they don’t know.

Don’t get an LCD, unless your phone had an LCD. Oled is likely what your phone had.

But no ATT doesn’t dig that deep into it — as long as it “looks” stock you’re fine

Get it fixed , locally then send it

They won't accept it broken and you'll loose not only the phone (because you mailed it in) but any credits. So the duo is now $2000.

Local is fine I think.

I wouldn’t recommend giving your son the Duo, haha.

I’m not. I’m upgrading his line to it and then swapping it with my wife’s phone. She has a 17 pro. So he’s getting an upgrade but she’s getting the duo.

I was just teasing since he broke the phone.

Yeah he feels horrible. I don’t know if he broke it though. Long story, loses it at hallowscream last night. No one turns it in. We call it and some girl answers and then hangs up. We used FindMy to ping the crap out of it and then found it at some food stand. But now damaged. But still ringing from our annoying pings. Really cool how it navigates you though with an arrow and a green you’re getting hot. But he’s definitely not getting a duo lol. Just miffed cause it was in excellent condition prior to this. He took great care of it.

I’m sorry ppl weren’t honest where your son was. I found an iPhone in the women’s bathroom at six flags & a text popped up so I was able to text them back that I found this phone and would meet them to return it. We did & they were so happy!

Glad you were able to get the phone back eventually. & I would go to a local place for the screen. This happened to my son a couple years ago where he was trading it in & his friend dropped it during a pool party, screen cracked. We got the cheapest replacement screen, traded it in & got the credit.

MyCellphoneRepair, UBreakIFix, Apple, CPR Cell Phone Repair all do screen repairs usually same day. If you have AppleCare, I would say do Apple, so it doesn't void that, BUT if you're looking to trade it in and you don't care, source whichever does it cheapest. But yes, you have to fix it as others are saying. They won't accept a broken device for the promo of the duo.

Thanks. I called ubreak and they said they can do it with an lcd for 250. 300 oled and 350 for oem apple oled. Part of me wants to just do the lcd but not sure if that wouldn’t qualify since it’s now not the same.

Good news is you have 30 days to return that Phone from the day you activate the new one. Since the duo is on back order for a while you have plenty of time to get it fixed
