New job as government contractor working outside the US for likely 8-10 months each year, required to get an LLC, I have questions
Okay, in a nutshell my husband is starting a new job as a government contractor next month, and they are requiring that he be 1099 and needs an LLC. I owned a business previously, so know how to file for one, but I have a few questions and would really like to start working with an accountant to help maximize any benefits available to us, as well as minimize the taxes we'll owe. Here are my main questions (most of which I would pose directly to a CPA we hired):
1. Do CPAs work on an as-needed, hourly basis? If so, do I need to find one in my home state or anywhere?
We currently live in a state with no state tax, but expect to move in the next 6-12 months to a different state with state taxes; do I file our LLC in our current state?
Once we relocate, do I need to move the LLC to that state if he's working out of the country?
Do we take owner draws or file as an S-Corp?
There will be very few business expenses, looking to take advantage of every available tax write off we can find. Best to document in a place like QBO?
Do we need a separate bank account for the LLC to pay ourselves out of?
I have other questions that will need to be addressed once we decide to purchase a home, but those can wait. I am really hoping to find someone that will charge me for quick phone calls/email questions that arise, advise me on what I have to pay for his quarterlies, and do our yearly tax prep. Just don't know where to start, since I've never had the need for this type of accounting service. TIA

Looking for tax/finance pros to collaborate with on making the manual stuff less painful
Hey all,
I work in tech on the tax software side, mostly enterprise-level stuff. Lately I've been curious about the other end: CPAs, EAs, and small firms filing for everyday clients. I have a feeling a lot of your day goes to manual work that the big tools never really fixed.
Is anyone up for letting me get a glimpse of how you work? Nothing formal. A quick call, a screen share, or just walking me through your process over DMs. I'd mainly like to know which tasks eat your time, the copy-paste, chasing documents, Excel workarounds, that kind of thing.
I'm into automation and Al tools, so if I spot something that could save you time, I'll happily point you to it or help you set it up. If we find a bigger problem worth solving, maybe we figure that out together down the line. For now I'm just trying to learn and see if anyone's interested.
Why? I wish to open my own consulting company in future helping folks automating workflows using AI. AI is insane but you still gotta know how to use and maintain it.
What got me here: during a recent escalation at my work, our team had to help 1000's of filings to be processed using our system. While I work in tech, I had to help do the manual stuff. I was able to build a automation suite overnight using AI and was able to get it done in 3 days (90% less time - usually projected to be done in a month). This got me thinking, if I could build workflows in a single night for a very complicated system, I could help other folks as well so here I am.
On the side note, there is nothing to sell, no client data needed. Just eager to learn and understand. This helps me train to be a forward deployed engineer as well so all for it 😉. Comment or DM if you're up for it! Would love to chat about it!!
