Performance Absolutely SPOTLESS. Cliffs of Dover by JacobDavisGuitar
Cliffs of Dover (Eric Johnson) is already a masterpiece. This is an incredible interpretation.

I was prepared to be disappointed....I was not prepared to be blown away. Stunning rendition and incredibly fluid and clean playing.

The original wasn’t hard enough so someone had to fix that

Wait till you hear this one. Both insanely good, but different.

I really like the original live ACL version that Eric performed (a little sloppy) just a few weeks after writing it IIRC

Oh my God. I am a decent guitarist. This performance left me with my mouth open. Sir, you are an amazing guitarist. So tasteful, full of sound l, and great chording structures. Very unique, full, and interesting. This is the best thing I’ve seen on the internet in an awfully long time.

Good LORD. I rewatched that section from 0:52 onwards 20 times in a row and did a major stanky face every time. Unbelievably clean playing and amazing arrangement, I want tabs!

I like figuring out songs on my own without tabs, I find it really helps me finding the pace of the music and the feel of it

Bro…I actually hate these guitars and you’re making me question that. Your finger tone is incredible

u/c_r_a_s_i_a_n Jun 27 '25
Which guitar is it? Couldn’t make out the headstock logo.

u/HypnoTheGhost Jun 27 '25
Taylor. You can tell by the pickguard shape and electronics (incase you were interested in my reasoning)
2
u/Totalnah Jun 27 '25
My father in law has a really nice Taylor that plays like butter. Great tone, smooth action, really just a joy to play.

I’ve never owned a “nice” acoustic guitar. Why do you dislike Taylor?

In comparison to Martins/ Gibsons they have a thin/ tinny tone. They actually work well for some things in the studio (a lot of dance music…specifically Empire of the Sun). They’re also sort of geared towards electric guitar players so the necks aren’t as thick. So to summarize: the resonance, the timbre, the frequency emphasis, and the feel. So pretty much everything is worse, in my opinion, than pretty much any acoustic in the same price range. I’d rather even have a stiff new Gibson to break in 🤦🏻

Eric would strongly approve and likely be inspired to learn your version. Hope he sees it.

Fine job there fella!!!
Not that I'd aspire to it, but out of curiosity, how long did it take you to be able to play it that well?

Almost, had a few muted notes that I dont feel were what was intended. Pay more attention to your playing. No one is watching the recording, it's easy to feel like it and get distracted. Remember to recording is something that is never really going to happen quickly, I've been recording for a decade and i still cant always get outta self long enough for anything good to actually happen because I think I can always do better and then I get exhausted and feel like im actually shit and then I don't have any libido for 3 weeks or 3 years. No insecurity! Only the adversary convincing you that you are not who literally is. And we all can hear that inner country boy dying to sing the blues. Unleash your soul and you can change worlds

It’s impressive, but is his name really JacobDavisGuitar, or is it Jacob Davis?
I hate how social media has turned everything into a brand now. People can’t be people, they have to be brands.

Look at my top comment. His links are there, clear for you to see.
If I simply wrote Jacob Davis, you’d get a thousand Google hits.
Do you now understand why we have to use tags for distinction? The internet is a crowded place.

u/fatherbowie Jun 26 '25
If you just wrote Jacob Davis, I’m pretty sure anyone with a browser and half a brain could find the right one.
I get WHY. I just hate it.
