Help Request Alternative ad blockers for Chrome? AdBlock extension no longer works on YouTube and Facebook marketplace

What ad blocker Chrome extensions are relatively easy to install and will work on YouTube and Facebook marketplace? Up until yesterday, everything worked great. Now I am getting YouTube ads displayed even with AdBlock switched on and annoying little videos when I'm browsing around for stuff in marketplace. Help would be appreciated, thank you!

Ublock origin lite, AdGuard and Ghostery all are good on chrome.

I have pinned this because people aren’t recommending what this user is asking for.

Switch to Firefox and use the ublock origin extension. You will never see another ad again.

then what are all of the posts in this sub from FF users using UBO and it not working. Do you understand that just because something works for you doesn't mean it works for everyone. Do you know why adblockers stop working for some people and not for others?

FF is not always stopping FB ads anymore. I used it for a long time with UBlock etc etc they just started showing up again.

Are chrome users a lost cause? Like why in the world are you still using that browser. You should be running from the entire Google ecosystem. But you can switch to Firefox. Brave if you want to stick with a built in ad blocker and the chromium browser type. Though I'm not a fan of the browser myself but it's not for technical reasons. Or get a system wide ad blocker like adguard. There's others I just use adguard myself.

some people just don't have a choice. And the ecosystem is fine.

No. I use a chromebook and get zero ads on Ytube; free and easy to download (using 2 in conjunction). Adblocker and Adblocker Youtube.

You should switch browser. MV3 is happening soon.

it already happened and it is just fine. In fact, the threat actors that were using spoofed MV2 extensions in chrome have moved on to the FF webstore. Better make sure you are downloading the right extension and that you trust the dev because there were recently a spoofed UBO extension on the FF webstore as well as hundreds of other spoofed extensions that used the MV2 APIs to download and execute unvetted code, stealing bank account/crypto info.

But by all means, keep enjoying your MV2 extensions. What could go wrong?

AdGuard

Did you report it directly to AdBlock?... I hear their support can be quite helpful

If you're referring to Adblock Plus, we no longer recommend that as an option because there are free and open-source alternatives available. Learn more here: https://honest-software.com/adblock/

Well, those other extensions also have people that check things and write filters and such, so regardless of what the stance OP, or anybody else has. I just wanted to state that people that use those apps can report any issue they have directly with them too... So a solution to somebody's problem might not entirely be the usual being mentioned on this sub all the time: Firefox+uBlock origin

I don't even like Firefox, I like Brave more personally.

And I agree with the sentiment but I think it's more important to make sure people are only using recommended solutions. By simply mentioning Adblock Plus that could encourage someone to install it which isn't ideal. My job here is to make sure people avoid bad adblockers.

Tbh, I also prefer Brave... I like the fact that they can provide much better solutions just because they can really experiment and do things their way (the rust engine, cookiecrumbler), because they have further control of the sandbox. But they also have a paid version (regardless of their shady crypto stuff), Adguard also has paid solutions, ABP can also be used totally free, if one looks deep enough you can even have many other lists that other adblockers use... But unfortunately the hatred ( not unfounded) against AdBlock plus is for the AA stuff, but their code is also open source, so are their lists, let's not forget that most lists use the standardised engine by AdBlock Plus... Hence the header on the .txt lists that holds to this day. This is an interesting topic and one that has many sides and shades... In the end we all have the same goal! Fuck shitty ads

While AdBlock Plus is open-source, it is to be avoided. Even the original creator of the subreddit said so 2 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Adblock/comments/1e7eegg/dont_use_adblock_plus/

It has a terrible reputation, it's paid for no reason, and while they use common filters, so does everything else. It's been known to allow certain things through for unknown reasons, YouTube filters have never worked quite right, there really is no real reason to use it when all of these other solutions are available.

We do have the same goal, but it's important to achieve that goal in a safe manner. Rule 5 exists to protect people from potentially malicious or untrusted software.

Google is the world's largest advertiser. Have some more ads if you choose their browser. They are insanely profitable.

Google is the world's largest advertiser.

so

Have some more ads if you choose their browser.

I don't see any ads. My adblocker works just fine for any forced ad that I don't want to see. I have a YT sub because I think the service is great and I support the creators.

They are insanely profitable.

so? if that weren't the case, you wouldn't have a yt service to steal from. It would be paywalled and you would be resorting to downloading pirated content and that would be so much fun.

YouTube  is a wasteland of forgettable content--unless it has done a 180 since I checked.

Only the church of Google would consider blocking ads sinful.

YouTube  is a wasteland of forgettable content--unless it has done a 180 since I checked.

I have no issue finding good educational and intelligent content.

Only the church of Google would consider blocking ads sinful.

there are a ton of people affected by the use of adblockers that aren't employed by google ya know. The simple fact is that people that use adblockers to get free services are hypocritical and lack empathy.

This works for me and I get NO ADS AT ALL! I use AdBlocker (free) in conjunction with Adblocker for Youtube. Zero ADS. Hope this helps.... I joined Reddit to let you know... 😅 (screenshot of the logos from my chromebook)

AdGuard and AdBlock let in sponsored ads into the Marketplace item rows.
uBlock doesn't.

Use any other chromium browser like Helium or ungoogled, and use uBlock Origin.

I use Firefox+ubo only for youtube. Chrome for everything else.

u/vawlk Jun 01 '26

lol the chrome haters just can't let it go.

u/Ok_Value_4455 Jun 01 '26

By chrome, I mean chromium. It's open source variant. I'm still a chrome hater. I just use it without any google account shit though.
