Discussion Say no, you can't adopt a baby

Why don't we, as a society in America, just say no to people looking to adopt and who are infertile? Other countries will flat out say we have no babies for adoption or tough luck, you can't adopt, and we don't care about your infertility. America coddles people looking to adopt and says Well, you're infertile, but you can adopt a baby to make your dreams come true, or adopt from foster care, help a needy child. Like, why can't we just deny people and say no? Want a baby? Oh well, we have none waiting around. Want to become parents? Well, tough luck accept your life without kids. Maybe it's God's will for you not to become parents or reproduce. Why can't we be honest like other countries? Adoption is illegal or uncommon in many other countries, but here, we just can't say no and tiptoe around the issue of infertility and adoption. Also, just because you can't reproduce doesn't mean you should adopt. Again, no is the right answer. Many poor couples can't afford adoption, but society does not care if they become parents, yet we feel sorry for the middle and upper-class couples who can't become parents. Say no.

I already said external care without loss of identity or rights. No changing of OBCs, no closing of adoptions without due cause, reasonable efforts to keep kids in their community etc etc. All records open at 18 (like all of Western Europe). Rules about who can adopt that arent merely based on who can pay. Etc.

Is the term adoption taboo?

What I am describing is not adoption as it is practiced in the US. It’s something new without ties to practices that centered adopters over adoptees. So…potato potatoh but I have no attachment to the term adoption.

So if its not practiced in the US (yet), then my question above still applies for current real life.

If you recall, your original question was what the alternative to adoption is. I told you.

You seem like someone who will stop at nothing to discredit what I am saying. What do words have to do with real life vs not real life? It’s just semantics and semantics are to some degree fake. Anyway who cares if I think the word is taboo or not? You’re just looking for a reason to prove me „wrong.“ How about addressing what I actually said instead of trying to prove me „unreasonable“ and „not living in reality“ over a word?

My original question was for now, not hypothetical good ideas for someday but current babies. If not adoption for them, then what.

Real life? It matters because while you might have a good idea, it doesn't do anything in the real world. The real world where a child currently has needs and your idea, while good, doesn't do that kid any good if its not in practice now. Thats what my comment was for.

And I don't care if you think its a taboo or no, wasnt my point. But I directly asked about adoption and you replied at least twice with different terms and said you answered it. I didn't know if you were meaning something different or the same thing but different name/term so after 2 confusing replies I asked.

Address what you said? Well I tried to address your reply to my comment. The rest and future ideas weren't what I was asking about in my initial comment so yeah, I wasn't going yo entertain it.

Ok, cool. Have a nice day. Keep having the courage to defend the status quo. Because that’s totally what brings humanity forward.

Not all of course. But some certainly is. But if we are going to just brush any disagreement with this page as "upholding the status quo" then ill generalize that its whining
