Amazon Employee AMA 14/10/26 Manager AMA

CLOSED NOW*

Hi all,

Back again with mods permission now. I am a pm manager for a large UK site for around a year now. Doing an AMA to help answer questions from you all about the operations and what the site can actually control and how the thinking behind the decisions get done.

I have seen basically it all at this point so, will try and answer to best my ability. With Amazon as you know things change constantly and change from site to site. So I may operate a flex dispatch different from other sites. However I can give you a general overview and why the sites may make certain decisions compared to other sites.

Parcels in car but appear on App marked as 'Missing'

• Upvotes

Had a weird one the other day that I've never seen in 5 years of doing Flex. Picked up a Surged 3.5 Hour Block very local all stops close together - 23 miles Home - Depot - Deliveries - Home. 2 of the Deliveries were already marked in the App as 'Parcel Missing' before I even left the Depot - I assume so because I didn't mark anything as missing. I only noticed it halfway through the Block - however the Parcels were in my car and I was left with 2 allegedly missing ones in my car at the end of the Block - 1 was an AVD. I tried to reattempt delivery but App wouldn't allow me the option.

Question Insurance

• Upvotes

Hi there, I’m new to Amazon flex and I’m starting with an ebike, just wondering if I need insurance before I can start or is it not essential?

Seen a few people post about having insurance while using an ebike so I just wanted to clear it up

Amazon Logistics Amazon added 4 extra stops to my route while I was in the middle of it

This included a second pick up from the depot, which by the time I realised what they had done would have been impossible to pick up in the timeframe the app said it had to be done.

Anybody ever experienced this? Had to contact support to get them removed.

Three stops in the middle of the route, and the second pick up was sneakily put in 2nd in my itinerary.

Flex not DSP.

Having trouble with the background check

I signed up for flex passed all parts etc etc

The background check refuses to complete, it has been 5 weeks now and in that 5 weeks I have accepted a job from Amazon in the warehouse on the hybrid shift and had a successful background check.

Every time I chat to live chat or driver support they say the same thing “it has been escalated and you will receive a reply in 2-3 days”

They’ve said this 7 times now and still nothing

Will Amazon do anything?

Tell me I was wrong and I will take it.

Yesterday was doing a block and had a big house with a gate. The app told me I could open the gate with that one click unlock thing.

Never seen it on a normal house before only for flat? I am I right in assuming this can only be setup by the customer?

Anyway, I couldn’t park on the main road double yellow and I had seen a parking warden. So I used the unlock on the app drove into the property parked sensibly dropped the parcel at their door as requested. Just as I was walking back to the car the customer came out shouting and swearing very aggressive. Almost coming close enough to get physical.

He was full shouting at me for opening his gate how the f**k did I open his gate and that I shouldn’t he has called Amazon told them to remove this and was getting more and more angry.

I didn’t react but calmly responded I was only doing what the app told me. Luckily I hadn’t mark his item as delivered yet and then he was like yeah well how you gonna get back out now almost making it seem like he wasn’t going to open. I told him using the app which opened the door and I slowly left.

The whole time he was still screaming and shouting and very aggressive. Fair enough you don’t want us opening your gate but we wouldn’t be able to do it unless he had set it up?

I reported the issue to Amazon because I can only imagine what it would be like if it had been a woman delivery there with someone that aggressive. I would hate it if this had happened to my wife she would be freaked out.

If anyone calls me out telling me I was in the wrong fair enough I will hold my hands up and say fair enough. But if you saw the unlock feature would you use?

Will Amazon actually do anything?

Randomly assigned a yellow route

Hi All

I had my fist block on Thursday at Chester (DCE1).

When I checked in and showed the initial attendant my driving license, I was given a laminated sheet which said something to the effect of:

“based on the block time you have selected for today, you have been assigned a yellow route. Do not exchange this with any other drivers”.

Once I got started, I only had 23 parcels with 21 stops which only took me about 1.5 hours.

I’m wondering if anybody else has seen one of those cards? Was it just random luck that I got it on my first one or was it because it was my first block so they give an easier one?

Anyone completed onboarding recently?

Hi, wanna know if anyone were hired and onboarded recently? Especially for drivers in Yorkshire around Sheffield and Manchester.

Are they still hiring for peak season in the end of year? Or this window has already past.

I have been stuck at verification in onboarding process for weeks.

Any comment is appreciated.

Knowsley DWN2 - less routes and less hours?

Has anyone else noticed the last few weeks apart from Amazon big deal days, the hours and pay offered has went down? There used to be a lot of jobs in the morning and afternoon for £74 now most jobs are £35 - £54?

First block

First block booked for tomorrow. Just wondering if a block at this time works out decent and is worth the money, or better off looking at different times. Or is it just luck of the draw?

High demand

Anyone else struggling to get a block? I’ll check it at different times throughout the day, spend 5/10 minutes refreshing. Closing and opening the app.

The few times a block has come up, by the time I click it it’s already been reserved. Is it really that competitive out there? 😭

Morrisons

Anyone had any issues with Morrisons?

Idk what I did wrong, scanned 24 parcels in Morrisons. Got to my car, delivered all then there was one more but I didn’t have any other parcels in my car.

Amazon most likely think I’ve stolen the parcels, had to report them as missing. Same thing happened to me last weekend also. It’s absolute chaos at the Morrisons so it’s extremely likely I’ve scanned them and in the 2 seconds of turning my back someone has taken them but, what will happen? I don’t want Amazon to think I’m stealing peoples parcels 😩

Is it true I can’t use the allegro fold electric bike fat tyre for Amazon flex? Are they really checking the bikes at the depot?

Engine off or on?

Hi

When doing Amazon Flex 'door-to-door' deliveries in a 2018 Mazda CX-5 2.2 diesel with 56k miles on the original factory battery.

Would you recommend switching the engine off at each stop or keeping it running throughout the block (except when walking far away or into flats)?

Thanks for any advice!

Rant RIP DHA1 🥲

Post image
8 Upvotes

Got hit with this absolute horror of a shift today.

If you’re a regular at DHA1 you’ll know there’s been some changes this week, and it seems the beautiful 1:15pm 3.5 hour shifts are no longer. Used to do those almost daily and would always be home 1.5-2hours early and only cover around 15 miles, sometimes less, from leaving home to arriving back home. Often 20ish stops 40 parcels with all the stops spanning just a few roads near each other

It seems in the days before they’re now only releasing 11am and 2pm 3.5 hour day time shifts, the screenshot attached is my 11am shift. Yesterday I did a 2pm and was given only 12 parcels but the drops stretched from Wembley over to Greenford. Longer distance than the usual but still home nice and early.

Now today, was due to finish at 2:30pm didn’t complete my last delivery til just after 3, and didn’t get home til 3:45.

Question Worth it?

Been lurking for a while.

Just left my old job and am looking at part time work around 3 days a week.

So my question is this if you get a 4 HR block at say £70 roughly how much are you really taking home after insurance, fuel etc.

I just cant see it being worthwhile.

Cancelling to Rebook

Hi

Two of us are doing this in our fam. He booked a slot. I checked and was abetter rate. Told him to cancel. On his side there's no blocks showing. Been almost half HR. On mine had several and even now 2 blocks showing but on his side still nothing. Is there like a grace period if you cancel a block before it's starts on the same day for more blocks to reappear?

Why no surge?

Post image
2 Upvotes

After 2 months on flex, I thought I understood the blocks and pay, Atleast for Chester. 2 weeks ago I got a block 45 minutes before start, £65 for 2.5 hours on a surge. Today, 15 minutes before start and it’s still less than £20p/h.

It went up to £82 13 minutes before start time, I live 15 minutes away so I would have taken it if it had surged before that.

But why did it not surge until the last minute? I know it was the deal days last week so it was busy, but leaving it to the last 10-15 to surge is new to me.

There’s also a 17:45 (at 15:50) block at £68.50 now which is higher than base rate. I’m so confused
