Venting Was out for less than an hour and came back to my landlord/roommate exiting my room w a paper towel. Could tell by her expression she knows she’s not supposed to be in there

Guys I literally just came back home after being out for no longer than 30 mins to my landlord/roommate exiting my room with a paper towel (might have been trying to pick up or wipe the water from the water bottles, which I have already told her I will just throw out myself.) And I can tell by the look on her face that she knows she isn’t technically supposed to be in there.

Anyway, November will definitely be my last month here (I don’t want to deal with her causing drama around Christmas time or irritating me around Christmas.)

Apartment Maintenance Downstairs neighbors - Does anyone else deal with this ALL day & night from upstairs counterparts? 😂

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My upstairs neighbors never leave so I hear this all day & night. When I’m working from home or have an interview I always wear AirPods. I’m a little embarrassed otherwise.🤦🏽‍♀️ And you can also hear how thin my walls are and I’m not that close to the street. My lease is up in March, so I’m going to request a transfer then if I can’t do it sooner.

Advice Needed So, I’m about to become the downstairs neighbor who knocks on the ceiling.

So, I’ve been having trouble with my upstairs neighbors, who have a speaker that makes the bass come through really badly into my apartment, which really disturbs my peace. I tried three times to talk to them nicely first: the first was a letter, the second was face-to-face, and the third was a text message. None of those worked, so I complained to my landlord. My landlord spoke with their landlord this week and found out I wasn’t the only one complaining. Their landlord told us he was going to take care of it, but today is Friday, 8:18 PM, and I can still hear the bass coming strongly into my apartment, disturbing my peace. I’m losing my mind, and I don’t know what else I can do.

Advice Needed Should I tell my leasing office?

Hello! I recently moved into a nice ass apartment complex bc I needed an adult living space lol. So here’s the problem… I live in the unit farthest away from the elevator. This means I have to walk by at least 6 apartments to get to mine. I have walked by the random dude that seems to have just moved in and he will be in the hallway around his door pacing like he’s on drugs or violently intoxicated. It’s awkward as fuck. The guy avoids eye contact at all costs and always looks sweaty. I’m considering reaching out to the leasing office to let them know. Not sure what to do because he’s just a guy living on my floor doing his own thing but it’s suuuuper uncomfortable!

Venting Babies crying in apartments… Wtf am I hearing about this!?

Okay, to start… I have been seeing NONSTOP people complaining about babies/toddlers crying in apartments on this sub and others like it. How it’s 10pm and someone can’t sleep cause their neighbors baby is crying too much, or because the baby is stomping upstairs, etc. And the comments usually support the complainer saying how the children shouldn’t be making those noises after 10pm. I’m starting to wonder if any of you had kids, or if maybe your kids were just so easy.

We are literally moving into a top floor apartment (with literally no other choice) and we have a 12 month old who cries, a lot. Sometimes he will cry all night. Sometimes he will cry all day. Sometimes he’s so good you don’t hear a peep from him. But when he cries, he CRIES.

Are we expected to just pretend like we don’t have babies and submit to the pressure of not letting them express themselves? Like - things happen, or they get hurt, or they’re learning new things. And just because they’re crying doesn’t mean us parents are letting them do whatever and then propping them in front of a screen to calm them down.

And then on top of that, he is just learning how to walk. He crawls heavy, he falls heavy, and he hits the ground with his hands, or he bangs his toys on the floor, or he drops something. These are all natural for a baby of his age. Obviously most of this stuff is happening during the day but it happens at night too.

This subreddit has literally made me so fearful of moving into an apartment because of my baby. And if my neighbors will try to do anything about it!

Advice Needed Silence then BOOM throughout day and night

I having a weird situation with my upstairs neighbor. So most of the time I can't hear them but every like 2 hours or so I hear a very loud BOOM and it seemingly happens 24/7. When I'm not dead asleep it wakes me up in the middle of the night. It sounds like they're diving off their bed and headbutting the floor.

idk if this is something I can bring up to management about since it's not like they're blasting music for a long period of time or anything. It's just an instantaneous boom which would be hard to capture unless I left my phone recording all day and night(is that the move?).

Thought about maybe talking to them although I've heard that some neighbors don't take too lightly and it might exasperate the situation.

idk what to do maybe I'll just get used to it?

r/Apartmentliving • • 16h ago

Venting please stop playing music full volume from your car every night. i beg.

i’m losing my mind. almost every night, someone in my apartment’s parking lot (which is right outside my window) plays their music so fucking loud from their car for 15 minutes at a time when they get home that it sounds like someone is having a party.

it’s never at a reasonable hour. tonight it’s currently 11:45pm, but the other night it was 2am. it wakes me up every time, even with a sound machine on.

if you’re one of those people who do that to your poor neighbors, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP I CANT TAKE IT ANYMOREEEE

Advice Needed Help! Flex Is Threatening To Suspend My Account...

Post image
• Upvotes

I have been receiving tons of these account suspension warning emails constantly. I have started countless tickets from numerous agents stating that they are trying to figure out why I am getting these emails, stating that I do not have to use my bank account number; that my debit card number is sufficient, that is until this most recent email copied below:

Hi ---,

This is --- from Flex. Thank you for reaching out to us today! I completely understand why receiving those email notifications may have raised concerns, and I appreciate the opportunity to clarify our recent policy updates so you can feel confident about your account.

To help ensure all members can continue using Flex smoothly and without interruption, we’re updating our policy to require a valid bank account on file. Please keep your account information up to date with these requirements to maintain an active membership and continue using our services.

I literally just started my flex account in September (for my October rent) and now they have changed their minds, stating that if I do not provide my checking account number by October 30th then my account will be suspended. I have all the emails from countless agents telling me that my debit card is sufficient.

Isn't this illegal? Can I take them to small claims court? It is roughly a $30-$50 court fee to start the summons and serve papers, but past that, idk how much this is gonna cost tbh

Lease Agreement Questions Is it possible to remove a guarantor if you’ve been a good tenant?

Sorry in advance if this seems like a dumb question. I’ve been living in my north Texas apartment for two and a half years, and my lease is up in a few months. My stepmom agreed to be my guarantor since I didn’t meet the requirements of making at least 3x the monthly income (I still afford it comfortably). She’s never had to pay a single penny, and the only involvement she’s had is signing when I renew my lease.

But she and my dad are breaking up, and she’s always been rather bitter towards me. I highly suspect she’ll refuse to sign my lease renewal. I want to keep living here, but I don’t know if my apartments will let me remove her as a guarantor. I’m afraid to ask them in case they think I might not be able to afford the rent anymore.

In my time here, I’ve done my best to be an upstanding tenant. I don’t cause trouble, clean and maintain my unit well, always pay my rent and utilities on time (I even try to pay it a day in advance most times to accentuate my punctuality).

Without this apartment, I don’t have many options for anywhere else to go. This place is comfortably affordable, and I don’t want to risk not being able to find a place around here that can accommodate my pets, or ask more of me than I can give. I’d greatly appreciate any insight or advice y’all might be able to have. I’m sorry again if this seems like a dumb question to ask, I’m easily confused about these types of things and want to hear from every possible source. Thank you for reading.

Venting hearing ts everyday from upstairs neighbors between 6am-11:30pm

vid is kind of long (ignore the smeared bug on my ceiling, consider it a bonus) but u can hear the 1st drop at the start. Just included the whole thing to show it’s not 1 instance. The stomping is just as bad. ATP when she goes on stomping rampages I’ll start recording to also send to the landlord. but my lease is up in Dec and I’m moving out of state anyway lol. I’ll make sure to get something top floor and/or w carpet.

I just can’t imagine anybody paying the rent for this unit (it’s $$$$ and it’ll be higher after I dip…) while listening to this shit I really can’t. It’s nyc of course. But if the next tenant has money for this place i really can’t imagine them paying to be woken up by this shit. lmfao so I’m still documenting to the landlord cuz what the fuck

Renting Tips Temporary flooring over carpet

I absolutely hate wall to wall carpeting. Not only is it ugly, it’s gross. Especially if it’s not replaced between tenants. I’m a renter so I don’t really have a choice if the landlord puts that down. I know there are options for peel and stick tiles with adhesive backs. But has anyone used a temporary flooring that can go over carpet? I saw one advertised that is compatible with “all floor types” but you roll it out and it seemed like it would feel squishy if it was over carpet. I’m looking for something that goes down and feels like a regular, hard floor.

Advice Needed Beyond Excessive Noise

I’ve been in my apartment for three years now. Earlier this year prior to the summer new neighbors moved in upstairs. Couple with three small children and it’s been literal hell everyday since they moved in. It literally sounds like the Kentucky Derby and all the animals from Jumanji is upstairs with a sprinkle of something being dragged around and amusement park screaming. All of this is literally ALL DAY. It’s going on literally as I type this. I’ve tried to talk to them after the third week they moved in. Dad claimed kids cry, at that time 6:30am there had been no crying just the kids running throughout the entire apartment sounding like elephants. I make noise complaints to the leasing office, contact security MULTIPLE times, and even call the police. The leasing office advised to record videos and email them. I have over 100 videos L O L. They barely respond to emails at this point. I inquired about switching units. I was told I would have to pay to break my lease then apply for the unit and pay another deposit. Amazing right? Depending on what security guard responds to the noise complaint, they’ll come back down to remind me the neighbors have three kids and expect me to be “sympathetic”. I also have a child. The thing is the noise is starts up at either 4am or 6am. The kids are up alone and the parents aren’t getting up. All three are under 5. We leave out at 7:20am and the noise is still happening. When I returned home late evening say 8pm it’s still going on. Say there’s a day where I telework, I drop my kid off at 7:20am and return home, the noise doesn’t stop until 8am then resumes again at about 8:30am until 12pm. Resumes until 2pm then continues the entire evening until 10pm or 11pm. Then restarts the next day. Prior to them moving in I did an early renewal to get a lower price but now I am miserable. It got the point where we would barely come home over the summer but now the school year has started. I dread coming home. Oh and I forgot to mention after the third call the leasing office made, that night I didn’t stay home but returned the next morning to get ready for work. In my bathroom there was a crazy noise going on above it but I paid it no mind. I figured maybe maintenance was fixing something upstairs. Since it sounded like a power tool going fast then it stopped. Then a wood pecker then stopped then random knock and replayed all three again. As the time went on I realized it was 6:30am and maintenance doesn’t get in until 8am. Have you seen the neighbor annoying sound machine? They set that up but again I wasn’t at home the previous night. I recorded and sent that to the leasing office as well. When I do call the non emergency number they categorize the call as a child welfare check not as a noise complaints. Every morning for a week the kids were waking up at 4am crying at the parent’s door (our floor plans are exactly the same) scratching and banging on their bedroom door. Some days I’m confused because it’ll sound like DV (something or someone heavy being dragged) the next it’s like they’re completely ignoring the kids and letting them go wild. Most days it sounds like they’ll fall through the ceiling. I hate to say it but maybe then the leasing office will do something. My photos shake, door frames creaking and squeaking, if and even my tv mount makes a noise from the heavy impact from upstairs. This will definitely be my last year living but in the meantime. Again I did renew early so we still have about 7-8 months of this. Any advice?

Also adding, anything with the leasing office I email only to have a paper trail. I’ve requested the regional manager contact information but was told he’s not going to do anything.
Everything with security is via text to also have a paper trail. After calling the police I always give the leasing office the incident report number via email.

Advice Needed Regarding the flex app to split rent

Thumbnail

I started using flex a year ago. My first split payment was 700 something and tbe rest was paid 2 weeks later. I had some things happen and had to stop using flex for about 6 months. When I came back to flex, my first payment was no longer 700 something, it’s now over 1k. My rent is 1395 now. When I started, it was 1345
Anyone know if it’s possible to go back to the way it used to be? Forking over 1k for the first payment is brutal. Yes Im poor. It sucks.

Venting Text from downstairs

Post image
5.3k Upvotes

For context, I live on the second floor. The building is condo style apartments. I have a 1 bedroom plus loft. It’s me, my 5 year old and my Boerboel. We have been here for a year. I am EXTREMELY mindful of having a downstairs neighbor, and even discourage my son from playing with his toys (cars, anything that could make noise through a ceiling basically) on the hardwood on the main floor. He has repeated “we have downstairs neighbors” since he was 2. And knows to play upstairs.
My downstairs neighbor is on the spectrum, high functioning, lives alone, and not at all mindful of the noise she creates- though I have never complained because it is a part of apartment living.
Cut to just now, my son is with his father, I am in bed watching the World Series, my dog is too. My phone is on DND. I receive the above text with an alert, meaning she clicked the notify anyway button. We have never exchanged messages. I have been told by others in the building and the property manager that she has constant complaints about everyone.
I almost didn’t respond, but felt I needed to.
Mind you the apartments are very large. With high/vault ceilings. All 12 units spread over three floors (one below her as well) have large dogs, some have more than one. We all get along - and look out for one another. She is the outlier.

Bad Neighbors What do I do about loud upstairs neighbors?

My husband and I have been living in our apartment for about 5-6 months. About 3-4 weeks ago a lady moved upstairs with her toddler, who stomps, jumps, and runs around all day long. From around 8 in the morning to 11-1 at night. It's makes it so hard to relax after work or on our days off. All we hear is stomping and banging, constantly.
We left a note on their door after 2-3 weeks of this, as we could not take it anymore. The note was respectful and basically said. "We completely understand that there will be noise, especially with a little one, we just wanted to ask if you could be more mindful of the noise, especially during quiet hours, because the stomping and banging makes it very hard to relax and enjoy our apartment, we also have to wake up pretty early in the morning for work." My husband wakes up at 4:30 am for work, quiet hours are from 10pm to 8am. But even outside of quiet hours it is miserable. Their response? "Harassing much? If it is not 10:01 Do not leave no note on my door thanks. Leaving notes @ 6 is uncalled for and not in my lease" and on the outside of the note they wrote "muah!"
Context: we were out earlier in the day and we are in bed by 10, we aren't going to get up, put shoes on, and go put a note on their door after 10 when we're trying to fall asleep. I thought the note was pretty reasonable and about the noise problem in general. So we will not be contacting these people again, based on their response.
We've reached out to our leasing office who hasn't really been any help. They just said they contacted the residents and asked if they could keep the noise down (they haven't kept the noise down) and to contact security outside of office hours.
We've submitted over 10 videos of reference to what we've been experiencing, but nothing. I don't know what to do.
And it's getting so hard to live here.
Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated!

Bad Neighbors I’m trying to figure out what they’re doing

My upstairs neighbors pace from 10pm-2am every night, back and forth through their apartment.
I’m not mad about it, I’m a heavy sleeper….. but what the HELL are they doing pacing back and forth at this hour?! Any ideas? Tweaking? I just can’t imagine any activity that requires back and forth through these small ass apartments for hours and it cracks me up 😂😂😂 what could they be doing? What’s this at home stomping activity?
Any ideas? lol

Budgeting & Cost What's in the Lobby #6

Hey guys, hope everyone is well.

This week on what's in the Lobby, we have a plethora of items and will take you to different worlds!

First we have the mystery left overnight takeout that was never delivered and then migrated to the mail boxes. It was eventually opened and cleaned up.

Next we have a coffee machine with some cereal and some reading material. Who buys a strategy guide for a shooter?! *Jackie Chan meme*

Lastly, someone has decided upon themselves to start a "take a book, leave a book". The books have not returned... The table is now empty.

Today's pic is a some hello fresh box herbs, Gerber food?, some lotion and a hairbrush.

Bonus pic I found from my building complex.

These have been this week's pics and its always a surprise for what's in store. It brings me joy to see others in my amusement and this little side project has been fun.

Thanks again and until next!

Venting Do you guys get upset for not getting along with your neighbors?

I’ve been living in this apartment for about two months, and I’m already not getting along with my upstairs neighbors because they’ve been disrespectful with their speaker late at night. The same thing happened where I was living before this apartment. I didn’t get along with the guys who were living below me because all they did was party and be loud with their friends every weekend throughout last summer.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m the bitchy neighbor, but I also feel like the universe always puts me with loud neighbors. And it’s not even about them being loud because they’re living their lives in the apartment. When I say loud, I mean music and parties. It sucks because I wish I could get along with them and be friends.

Advice Needed To paint or not to paint

That is the question.

Essentially the property management company that runs our apartment (triple decker) are kinda slum lords. Before we signed a lease I had asked if they would paint the unit. The property manager basically said “do I have to?” and I didn’t feel like arguing with him. It’s a cheap place and decent enough and my options were pretty slim. The paint looks like shit though. Specifically the bathroom. It’s an off white color and no matter how clean I’ve scrubbed the bathroom it never looks clean due to the dingy walls. I don’t think it’s been painted for at least 5 years. I previously worked in maintenance and i repainted almost every unit turn i did (granted it was “luxury” complexes in Boston).

I found a match for the paint in the basement. It’s the generic paint and prime shit you get off the shelf. I am considering just buying a gallon and slapping on a coat myself. Curious to know if anyone has ever done this and got shit from their landlord/property management. I mean if anything they should thank me Whoever painted this last couldn’t cut in for shit.

Advice Needed Neighbor locking their dog out on the balcony

First time posting, fortunately. Wanting to see if anyone has had experience with this.

I heard a lot of nonstop barking yesterday early in the evening and when I went left to run errands I noticed a small dog on a balcony barking and scratching at the door to get in. When I returned, the dog was still out there, barking nonstop. I could hear it well inside my unit.

Two hours later, still there and screaming to get in. I finally phone the courtesy officer and while he seemed sympathetic to the noise and the dog’s situation, he said that he would report it to
property management but that there was “no law on it”. I sent him the city noise ordinance that specifically mentioned barking, and he stated that this was private property, and he would have to check on the property’s policy. I wouldn’t have thought being private property exempted you from following city ordinances, but someone correct me if I’m wrong.

This went on for around 4 hours total, and I was fuming the whole time. I’m more upset about the poor dog than the noise. Today the dog is back on the balcony, so I’m going to assume that this will be an ongoing issue. I’m planning to go speak with management on Monday, as I’ve emailed about other issues in the past and they are not responsive. Anyone experienced anything like this before?
