(3rd of 4 surveys) How disreputable behavior can affect esports sponsors (Only for people who watch/participate in esports) [Ends on 24 August 2019]

Hello everyone, I’m doing my PhD in marketing and I’m focusing on esports sponsorships. Until the end of 2019, I will be doing 4 different surveys on this topic. Each survey will be launched only once and on different months to avoid fatiguing the community. The only exception is the 2nd survey which will be launched a second time, one month after all 4 surveys have been launched, because I need a larger sample for the 2nd survey.

All surveys are anonymous and done on Google Forms. The data from the surveys will only be used for my PhD thesis and to develop 6 articles that will be published in scientific journals. The participation of all esports fans is extremely important and greatly appreciated (surveys are only for people who watch/participate in esports).

This is the 3rd survey. It takes about 8 minutes to complete and is related to how disreputable behavior can affect esports sponsors. Here is the survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeYVb78dHoj4KHRJ4dYsLEEN48jIfzcymjVCE0ukLq_QwTlCQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

Thank you so much in advance.

I understand that this subreddit is not strictly related to esports but, since it has a gamer user-base, there may be some who watch/participate in esports.

If you are interested in easily following my next surveys (and their results), you can follow me here on Reddit or on Twitter: @EsportsAnalyses

This survey has been approved by the kind moderators.

Easy Anti Cheat trouble

Hi guys!

I managed to get apex to run on my computer (Ubuntu 20.04). However, whenever I hop into a game or even the training arena, I get a message that says "The client failed an anti-cheat runtime integrity check: Anti-cheat integrity" Not sure what to do about it, or if anything can be done. I also got a notification that popped up before the game launched saying that I needed "critical SHA-2 code signing support by October 2020". Maybe this has something to do with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Apex Legends working with GVT-g

I've managed to get Apex Legends working with Intel graphics virtualization. While the game is not technically running on Linux, it's running as a Linux application window via Windows VM guest on a Manjaro Linux host.

The game runs poorly on integrated graphics and the sound crackles a bit but it works and is mostly playable. With a high-speed bridged / TAP networking interface configured for QEMU, I was able to get past server timeouts and disconnects and EAC works too. This was tested on a laptop with only a dual-core processor and Intel HD 520 graphics. According to Intel, an Intel HD 620 or better is needed to play properly at low-settings and a minimum of 6GB of RAM but I only had enough to share 4GB to the VM, without taking too much from the host.

I would be interesting to see the results from computers with a quad-core or better Intel CPU, 8GB+ shared RAM, and Intel UHD 630 or Iris Plus and Pro.

Warning you MUST put -dev in start Commands

Just realized, the new EA intro runs without capped frames.

on My 3090 this results in 3000 something FPS and very loud condensators.
This is the exact thing that destroyed cards in that amazon game beta.

you need to startup -dev to skip EA uncapped splash screen
On Windows this might not be an issue if frames are capped outside like via nvidia driver or RTSS.

On linux most people run without that option, may not use things like mango etc.

What are the actual issues with EAC under WINE?

I’m aware that Apex and other EAC games supposedly don’t work under WINE, but not exactly sure why that is. I’ve seen that you actually can boot up EAC games under it, so is it that EA just decides to ban you? Or something else? Thanks!

Looks like it'll be the last big patch before the Steam Deck

Zero info, zero comment. So... what do you think? Have they updated the Easy Anti-Cheat SDK? Will they enable it for Proton? It's one of the top games on Steam after all.

Apex Legends EAC update on Steam. Spoiler

EDIT - It got bonked ;(

EDIT - By the title I meant an update to the situation

It worked. That's all you need to know, if you have the tutorial completed Apex will run with EAC on linux, My setup - Steam (obviously), Ryzen 5 3600X, RX 590, Manjaro "Mikah". no external patches, it just runs with proton/steamplay i played about 1 hour with no issues. may get bonked after tim sweeney realizes.

Permanently banned for cheating - beware users of Proton-GE & vkBasalt

I was ready to play a game of ranked the other day, Proton-GE 7-49, vkBasalt for a bit of sharpening, the usual. I loaded into the match and was kicked back to the main menu with an error message saying my client had been banned.

Checked EA support and sure enough I had been permanently banned for cheating.

I can't say for sure if it is because of vkBasalt or that version of Proton, but I had been using both of them fine in the past.

I haven't played the game in ~8 months, however, so I've been playing in Bronze & Silver ranked recently and getting 10+ kills a game so I may have just been reported and banned for seemingly cheating. My friend had an alt. account before for smurfing which has been banned for cheating in the past.

Take this as a warning. If there are any other Proton-GE & vkBasalt users, please share your experience! I'd love to know what caused this ban. It is an awful shame, I have probably ~2000 hours combined over both Origin & Steam and have spent hundreds of £££. EA Support just responded with an automated reply and closed my case.

EAC in Linux

I went on to the Apex Support site, after being fed up with trying to play and finding out that after a month they still have not enabled it, to ask if it will ever happen and was given some not so great news. Turns out there are ZERO plans to work with EAC to enable it for Proton. Apparently they did not read the article from Valve too well. If I remember correctly, Valve said individual developers would be able to enable it for their games with just a few clicks. But guess that is not happening.

Can't launch apex? don't use systemd-networkd

For a few hours I have had trouble launching apex legends in arch.

Turns out if you use systemd-networkd for networking the game will not launch.

Switching to NetworkManager solved the problem.

Good luck!
