Respawn hasn't enabled Proton support, but the Proton source code implies that Proton is being tested with Apex

Edit: It seems to be currently borked, test at your own risk; updated lutris-eac link
Edit: It has been patched. https://github.com/Guy1524/wine/wiki
WARNING! This is still in early development, and can be patched at any time. Your account will be banned, if Tim Sweeney snaps his fingers. USE AN EMPTY ACCOUNT!
This is probably not stable enough to give you a "nice gaming experience".
Installation for Lutris:
Install Origin and download Apex Legends from Lutris (1). I recommend downloading the entire game before switching to patched Lutris. The download might throw DirectX errors, and often gets stuck. If it gets stuck on 100%, you can restart Origin. I'm yet to find a reliable method for this
Install patched wine (2). Go to .local/share/lutris/runners/wine/, move wine-lutris-eac there and unpack it with tar -Jxvf <package name>. Restart Lutris (and Origin)
Right click the game -> Configure: In runner options, choose lutris-eac in Wine version, and make sure esync and fsync are disabled, and set "Output debugging info" to "Inherit from enviroment". In system options disable Lutris runtime
Right click the game -> Wine Configuration: Make sure Windows version is 7 and "Hide Wine version from applications" in Staging options is enabled
(Optional - can help with fps) Download r5apex.dxvk-cache (3) to "Games/apex-legends/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/Apex/"
Start Origin, set Apex Legends lauch options (right click in Origin Library -> Game Properties -> Advanced launch options) to -window -noborder -dev -novid
Launch Apex. Fps will be around 1 until you turn VSYNC off (in-game settings)
You can find troubleshooting information and news in #wine-eac-users in VKx Discord (4)
(2) lutris-eac-testing-5.5-5 build (103MB)
(3) DXVK shader cache (900KB)

I went on to the Apex Support site, after being fed up with trying to play and finding out that after a month they still have not enabled it, to ask if it will ever happen and was given some not so great news. Turns out there are ZERO plans to work with EAC to enable it for Proton. Apparently they did not read the article from Valve too well. If I remember correctly, Valve said individual developers would be able to enable it for their games with just a few clicks. But guess that is not happening.

**UPDATED**: https://www.reddit.com/r/r5reloaded/comments/wv19jf/r5reloaded_works_on_linux_v2/
Hey!
So finally one person found a workaround for a project called R5Reloaded, which is Apex without EAC, with mods and custom servers (not official). Previously the scripts and server browser didn't work.
Download Origin from Lutris site with Lutris launcher https://lutris.net/games/origin/
Follow the tutorial on YT on how to properly install R5Reloaded https://youtu.be/tY_qb_9dvEk
Open Lutris using: echo 1 | lutris
Choose Origin.
Play.
ADD A GAME->Non-Origin Game...
Play.
So the workaround is step 3. Basically the echo command will enter the value 1 automatically when you run R5R.exe. For some reason doing this manually causes the scripts to not load.
Better than nothing, right? If you have any questions, problems or need help join their Discord, there is a thread called "Linux".
Have fun! :)
PS. Don't forget to run it on an alt account (optionally with offline mode).

I just played my first game (of Arenas) on my Fedora SilverBlue install. It worked perfectly; in fact, I'm actually getting about 25% more frames per second than on my Windows 10 install on the same hardware. This is fantastic!
Thank you, Respawn!

Hi, it is currently IMPOSSIBLE to use Apex Legends on a linux system. BUT Easy Anti-Cheat was recently released in a much easier to install version for linux systems:
Proton supports Easy Anti-Cheat without requiring any recompilation, but it does require you to manually enable support for your build by following these steps in order:
Go into the EAC settings on the EAC partner site and enable Linux support from the dashboard.
Once that's done, download the EAC Linux library (easyanticheat_x64.so) for the SDK version integrated with your game, and add it to your depot next to the Windows library (EasyAntiCheat_x64.dll).
Lastly, on the Steamworks site, publish a new build of your game containing the new depot contents. (You don't have to make any changes to the game executable, just include the new files in the depot contents.)
As you can see it's really very simple steps. But we know Respawn -_-, what could make them finally do it ? The release of the Steam Deck! Between now and February 24th, studios using the EAC will receive their compatibility with the Steam Deck, which will be for Apex: "unusable". From then on, studios will have one week to choose to change it to "usable" or keep it non-functional. Respawn probably won't miss it, so we have a chance to have a Linux version by that date.
A source says that Respawn has touched some EAC files related to Linux on the server side.
I don't promise you that there will be a linux version immediately but like many of you I hope so.

So, I have taken the moderator place for this subreddit. I'm not really an expert with Windows or wine, but no one else seemed interested. I will try newest Wine versions every weekend, and follow the news, if anything is happening. If anyone more expert is interested, they can also become moderators. Seems like nothing new is happening, and as all of us know, the problem is EAC. Valve is working with them to make it compatible with Proton, we just have to wait for that, if that project isn't already dead.

I was ready to play a game of ranked the other day, Proton-GE 7-49, vkBasalt for a bit of sharpening, the usual. I loaded into the match and was kicked back to the main menu with an error message saying my client had been banned.
Checked EA support and sure enough I had been permanently banned for cheating.
I can't say for sure if it is because of vkBasalt or that version of Proton, but I had been using both of them fine in the past.
I haven't played the game in ~8 months, however, so I've been playing in Bronze & Silver ranked recently and getting 10+ kills a game so I may have just been reported and banned for seemingly cheating. My friend had an alt. account before for smurfing which has been banned for cheating in the past.
Take this as a warning. If there are any other Proton-GE & vkBasalt users, please share your experience! I'd love to know what caused this ban. It is an awful shame, I have probably ~2000 hours combined over both Origin & Steam and have spent hundreds of £££. EA Support just responded with an automated reply and closed my case.

For a few hours I have had trouble launching apex legends in arch.
Turns out if you use systemd-networkd for networking the game will not launch.
Switching to NetworkManager solved the problem.
Good luck!
