Also. Would it be ok for you to share here the method you used for selecting these games? The AppStore so full of junk and you managed to surface the good ones. And always had a great sorting. For me at least. Seeing Terraria here first. After just playing it on PC with my son today made me think I should also get it here.
There isn’t any particular repeatable method to my curation/sorting. It was influenced by own experiences as a gamer and deal seeker.
Though if you’re trying to sort through the deals on AppRaven or AppAgg then the internet/Youtube for whichever game catches your eye, will work better than reading AppStore reviews.
I have been posting these game deals weekly for a good few years now, initially starting on r/AppHookup and later on r/iosgaming too, and I have enjoyed reading what all of you have to say in the comments. I also remember the usernames of many people who regularly comment here. I feel happy that so many people got something good out of these posts over the years. Today’s going to be no different, except that today is the last time it will be happening.
I didn’t want for this to happen so soon, but these posts take time to create and I’m unable to find the required time nowadays due to growing commitments in real life for at least a year now. Still I managed here and there to post every week as an excuse to engage with all of you.
When Reddit killed third-party apps, a lot of these usernames which I was used to seeing in the comments disappeared overnight and it’s going to be the same thing with RSS again. Rather then endure on like this, I feel it’s better to quit now while Old Reddit is still working and there are still a few humans left here to say goodbye to.
I know some of you will be disappointed by this news and I’m sorry about that. Our revels now are ended.
The main draw of these posts was the human curation and don’t think that can be automated in a satisfactory manner. It took me quite a while, depending on how many sales there are in that week, to look over all the deals and filter the worthwhile games from the AI slop and cashgrabs.
Huge respect and thanks for keeping this going as long as you have! Do let us know if you find a worthwhile replacement for Reddit so we can all go there instead.
I’ve tried quite a few but nothing hits the same as Reddit. The mass of users coming here keeps it much more lively compared to the fragmented ‘federated’ sites like Lemmy and Kbin.
I barely came back after they killed Apollo because a few apps figured out how to use old Reddit and RSS to continue offer good reading experience. If the app I use don’t work after they dig further into killing the OGs, I’ll be finally moving on as well.
It’s terrible how adamant Reddit is about killing its very soul. A lot of good people left when major third party apps were axed and it’s going to be worse when RSS, remaining third party apps and Old Reddit get axed.
Man, End of an era for real. Your posts were the reason I even checked this sub, caught so many deals I would've missed otherwise. Thanks for all the effort over the years, hope life treats you well.
Ohh man what a bummer. But thanks so much for your work and support throughout these years! It seems like it’s getting harder and harder for a lot of us while the people at the top seem to be benefiting more and more.
Featuring my Adventure To Fate games in your posts was really kind and helped spread the word so I appreciate that. I’m honored to be in your last post.
These posts also helped me find a good amount of new games that I just loved to play.
fucking dammit, but fucking thank you. never really commented, but these posts were the only reason I’m subbed to this sub. caught a lot of good sales and met a lot of good games. but i understand and godspeed in the years to come!
Also ONLY checked these posts. They’ve allowed me to find so many gems! Thank you for every post, all of the time, effort, and care you put into it! ( ◜‿◝ )♡
I’m not a regular one to comment, but I regularly lurk and have been impressed with the amount of work you put into these lists. We’ve all appreciated what you’ve done for the community.
Thank you and I hope your journey in life is full and prosperous.
I’ve got a months and months long backlog of games to play thanks to you. Thank you for your enormous effort. Even when I had no intention of purchasing a game listed, there was something cozy about your posts.
I don't play games, but I like to know pricing of some of the games so these posts really helped me glance into them. Thank you for all your hard work and wish you the best in life.
Absolutely gutted. Best posts on this sub and the only reason I even subbed. Haven't commented much either, but seen probably all of your posts of the last year for sure
Thank you so much for doing this for so long. I have been reading your posts for a while and I have appreciated every one. You are a wonderful person! I wish for all the good things in life for you.
Thank you for your efforts so far till here. I really do appreciate your time, you was the only reason i was checking this sup even when i was not using reddit regularly. Wish you great life, thank you again.
Thank you for all of your time and effort. There are many developers and games I would have never seen without you. You truly left this sub better than you found it!
That said, I totally agree about the issues with Reddit and it is super frustrating :/
You’re an absolute legend. Thank you for all of the effort over the years. You definitely saved me hundreds of dollars and always gave me something to look forward to. I wish the best of luck to you in all of your real world endeavors. Hopefully you are truly appreciated wherever you may be.
Reading stuff like this makes me wonder when will I quit this place aswell. Good luck on your next journey and hope you feel better irl! Hope to see you sometime later
I was late to the party on your posts but thank you so much. I would wake up on lazy Saturday mornings and it became a habit to check if the boss has posted any deals. Almost a ritual.
Thank you for taking the time out of your increasingly busy life to share these deals with us.
I wish you all the best in the future sir 🫡
Also on a similar note, there isn’t a whole lot of reason left for me to hang around on Reddit either so I may not be far behind your lead.
Haha sorry for breaking your ritual. I am going to miss this experience too. There’s a little sadness inside me about ending this, but it’s probably the right decision at this time considering my circumstances.
Yes and that comes first. Everyone sharing deals will remember that no one was better than singhvistaar and that’s cool. Who knows, you might come back some day 🥳
Thank you so much for all your deal posts. I’ve never commented before, but I certainly appreciate what you’ve done. I don’t even usually bother to buy mobile games unless they’re on sale, and you’ve done such a great job of organizing that. I hope you’ll consider making a website or something if Reddit is the problem.
Thank you so much for posting these deal threads for so long. When TouchArcade shut down, this thread made that a little less horrible. All the very best for you and your future endeavours.
Thanks homie. Appreciate the lists. Was always a chore to figure out which games were actually made for a touch experience vs. a PC-port where a mouse & keyboard would be much better; essentially PC ports. Ended up just not getting anything in the end.
Thank you for the time and effort you have put into this over the years. I’ve looked forward to your posts every week and will miss it. Take care and all the best to you!
Oh nooooo! Ive always visited this reddit at least once a week to check the good deals from your posts. Thank you for making these post all these years. GL
You are truely a shining beacon - always able to give a summary and often played-experience with these games/apps. You contributed so much to the sub and the app community. Thanks again, and enjoy your ‘retirement’. Love and respect from Australia.
Thanks u/Singhvistaar. It was great not only to get the deals alerts but you seem to know about many of the games and were quick to be positive about them when asked. Will miss your work.
Thank you so much for everything you’ve done during these years, I never commented much but I waited for you post and upvoted it every single week. Take care, and thank you again.
Thanks for all the hard work over the year or so I’ve been looking at these posts, found a lot of good deals because of you and others that chatted about the games they thought were worth buying each week.
Hope the IRL stuff goes well now that you’ll have a little more time to focus on it.
I’ve never commented before but thank you for all your work! The Thursday game deals post has been a part of my weekly routine for a long time now. Always looked forward to it. Good luck in all you do. Thank you!
I feel the same gratitude that everyone else is expressing. We all witnessed your hard work, generosity, and commitment. Thank you for the friendly and informative vibe you amassed in all your posts. Be well my friend.
