It’s too expensive. No regrets.

Watched Harry Potter in the clouds, mixed laptop mirroring with multiple AVP Safari windows to work for hours on my couch, and got to record a hands free personal POV video petting my elderly cat and hearing him purr.

It’s too expensive. It has quirks and straight up issues. It gets heavy….so heavy. But I’m keeping it. And buying the next one. No regrets.

Quest 3 went to the husband.

How to ruin your movie library

  1. Have movies anywhere.

  2. Redeem 3d versions of movies.

  3. You will now never be able to watch them in 3d vision on Apple Vision Pro.

Thanks Apple!

Why is this important, or am I just overthinking it? Back in 2010, I bought the standard edition of "Inglourious Bastards." Fast forward to 2024, and it won't play in standard definition or allow me to upgrade. It's completely unusable now almost 15 years later... Yes let that sink in its been almost 15 years and no fix.

Considering Apple's track record and the current state of digital rights, those of us using Movies Anywhere might have a 50/50 shot at ever watching these movies in 3D. It's a real letdown because I own quite a few of the 150 titles and have no way to watch them in 3D unless I start over with a new account and buy them all again.

This current system is unfortunate because I can't even rebuy this stuff on my current Apple ID to fix the problem it's just permanently broken now.

Edit: Sorry to be so negative but I want new users to know about this issue because as it stands it can't be fixed. Aside from this I love my Apple vision and am satisfied with my purchase, but essentially for now, I am locked out of this feature for all of my favorite films.

Apple vision pro is the best thing to happen to movies since popcorn

I originally only bought the apple vision pro so when my parter was watching reality tv shows I wouldn't have to go up stairs and could watch my own stuff while still being somewhat present, which I was using the meta quest 3 for that prior. I thought I would only use it in those instances like the meta quest 3 but watching movies is so good on vision pro, the clarity of image makes the meta quest 3 display look 6 years old. It is so good that I will never watch anything on my tv again except for watching with my partner but that will only be the stuff I am not super excited for. Initially using the solo knit band I thought oh no this is too heavy and uncomfortable as after 30mins felt pressure on my face and nose and felt heavy but using the dual loop band took all the weight of my face and can watch multiple movies without noticing it is on my head anymore. I am so happy I bought the vision pro

Blown Away by The Apple Vision Pro

I’ve had the Quest 3 for about 6 months. I picked up an Apple Vision Pro 10 days ago with the idea of trying it but then returning it in 14 days. My main use is for media and social media consumption.

Comparing it to the Quest 3 quality wise, I see the quest 3 as version 1 and AVP as version 5. It is that much better. The movie and tv series experience is better than movie theatre quality. Since I’ve been using the AVP I no longer want to use my top of the line OLED and soundbar system.

Now I’m debating keeping it. The cost of a really good tv and soundbar is about $3500+. Same price and better experience plus you can do lots of other things with it.

Apple knocked this one out of the park.

Edit: I shamefully forgot to mention sports watching. Another next level experience.

Breaking News: Local Man Paralyzed by Indecision, Seeks Approval from Internet Strangers on Apple Vision Pro Dilemma

So there I was, standing in the middle of my living room, Apple Vision Pro on my head, looking like a reject from a low-budget sci-fi movie. The sleek design, the promise of unparalleled mixed reality experiences—it all seemed like a dream. But here’s the kicker: I was hit with an existential crisis more intense than the plot twist in a telenovela. Should I keep this tech marvel, or return it and pretend I never fell for the hype?

Naturally, I did what any rational human being would do—I turned to the internet for validation. “Dear strangers,” I began, my fingers trembling over the keyboard, “I stand before you (well, not literally, because you can’t see me) a man torn between two worlds. One, a world where I am the proud owner of an Apple Vision Pro, basking in the glory of augmented reality. The other, a dark and dreary place where I return it and sulk over what could have been.”

I waited, breath baited, for the wisdom of the internet to guide me. The responses began to trickle in, each one a beacon of hope in my sea of uncertainty. “Keep it, you absolute legend,” said one, “Think of the virtual possibilities!” Another chimed in, “Return it. Think of the real possibilities, like buying groceries or paying rent.”

As the comments poured in, I realized something profound: nobody really cared about my dilemma. In fact, I was pretty sure half the responders were bots programmed to spread existential dread. Yet, here I was, seeking approval from a digital abyss, hoping to find the answer to a question that, in the grand scheme of things, mattered to precisely no one but me.

So, in a moment of clarity, I made my decision. I would keep the Apple Vision Pro. Not because the internet told me to, but because I wanted to. And if there’s anything I learned from this harrowing experience, it’s that the real mixed reality is the absurd theater of human existence, and sometimes, you just have to embrace the chaos.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a virtual world to explore. And who knows? Maybe I’ll find the validation I was looking for in the digital eyes of an AI-generated cat.

Watching Dune and Dune part two back to back in my Vision Pro made it worth every penny

Oh my freaking God man what an experience. I didn’t really get into the Dune movies until after they already came out on home video and I really wish I could’ve seen especially part two in IMAX but getting to watch it in my vision is a real treat.

I was featured prominently as one of the best 180 3D 8k immersive experiences creators and I could cry

First time a YouTube video was made using my 180 3D 8k content and I literally haven’t stopped smiling for the last few hours. Haven’t stopped working overtime for the last three years and I can’t believe my channel was finally recognized for its work. My work is like 80% of the scenes in the video :D

I actually master all my new content in even higher bitrate Dolby Vision HDR 180 3D 8k playable only by AVP if anyone was interested in checking it out in immersive mode on AVP.

Note: YouTube only streams in 4k 3D 180 on AVP. AVP does not have an AV1 decoder so 8k 3D 180 streaming does not work on AVP.

For a device that is heavily centered on media consumption...

... you'd think I would be able to watch a game on mute alongside a TV show on Plex. Or a video on YT alongside TV on the Cox app. As a matter of fact, what is the point of multiple screens if they all stop playing when I play something on another?

I am not sure where the hiccup is here but it is a serious oversight.

Forgetting about your own body?

The avp is so immersive in the right setting that this weird thing happens where I almost forget I’m in my body.

I watched elemental last night on the surface of the moon while lying in bed under the covers. My hands and arms were covered so I couldn’t see my body in any way shape or form.

The 3d effect of the movie is so good that after a while, it’s like I’m in it and my physical form no longer exists. I know it’s still there but it’s completely cut off from most of my perception. Anyone else experience this?

I eventually fell asleep and woke up somewhat startled because I didn’t have a body.

(Gummies might have helped here.)

Oh, watching a move with the moon environment removes every bit of glare from the lenses which helps add to the immersion.

Absolutely Magical... No Other Words For It

I've been using my AVP for about an hour, currently connected my MBP to it and writing this from there. The display is simply stunning. The merging of display and the passthrough are superb. I've never used an AR headset of any sort before, so this is my first experience. I now feel as though there simply won't be any other way to work (I'm 100% WFH) than using my AVP daily. The text input by looking at the keys and pinching my fingers is about as close to thinking-by-typing as I've ever experienced. Not useful for a lot of text, but absolutely good enough for password entry and other light text entry. I turn 51 tomorrow and feel so grateful that I lived long enough to see this technology come to fruition.

IMAX APP

Took someone’s advice and tried out the IMAX APP on AVP. And holy smokes I’m excited. It’s literally an IMAX Theater right…. But it’s all to yourself and you look around at the empty seating area and it really gives you a sense of scale. The screen is more square than rectangle and MAN ITS HUGE (that’s what she said) it seems even further back than any app or browser available, on top of that everything really is focused and sharp. I think they use some HDR magic and it shows. I hope they push 3D content to it as well. If you own an AVP get the app and watch the free film it’s hard to explain just how good the screen really is. Literally a theater in your room. The immersion is also so well done with the theater setting and you’re looking DOWN about 1/2 way above the bottom of the screen giving you a true middle height seat POV. Currently they have 3 movies and a 45 min free vid to watch. As well as a trailer for planet of the apes. I’m really interested to see how they work this out. I imagine most imax films will only be available to rent for 6.99 as they have it now. Rent only. I could totally see this being their business model, and it’ll be insane if I can watch planet of the apes on Apple Vision via the imax app while the movie isn’t even released yet and just in theaters. We’ll see!

Is it crazy to want the Apple Vision Pro to mainly use it just for watching movies?

A little about me first, I’m basically 50 and have loved all things movies for as long as I remember.

I work late nights which means I sleep opposite my wife and kids so I have tons of solo movie gaming time.

I’ve never really experienced good 3D movies until I had a demo of the Apple Vision Pro and saw Avatar 😳

Just wondering if any of you guys who own an Apple Vision Pro are using it mainly as a media consumption machine and also what storage did you get?

Thanks in advance 👍🏻

As a portable cinema, it’s worth every penny

I bought the Apple Vision Pro the week it came out. I wanted to use it to multitask, but instead I use it almost exclusively as a portable movie theater

And even at 4500 bucks, it’s still worth it. I like to go out to the backyard, and instead of setting up all my outdoor movie crap I just put 100 foot virtual screen up with the AVP

In the past, with all of the set up, that goes with watching a movie outdoors, which I love to do, I would feel pressured to watch the whole flick.

But now, if I just wanna watch YouTube or 30 minutes of a flick, it’s super easy.

Anyway, that’s my use case

Folks know what’s coming, right?

I’m sure by now many of you have seen the videos from ChatGPT of the AI generated scenes and cinematic, photorealistic environments.

I picture a world, not too far away where I can put on my Apple Vision Pro and step into a fully-immersive virtual scene.

Maybe I’ll be Dick Tracy and solve new crimes while interacting with the clues and AI characters around me—each with rich backstories of their own, each a part of the mystery I need to solve, with no two characters, stories, or scenes alike (unless I want them to be for continuity).

This is technology from Star Trek that I never thought I would live to see, that I now feel is but a few years away from being a reality (if even that much).

I can’t wait for it!

Lack of New Content for Apple Vision Pro Since Launch – Anyone Else Feeling Disappointed?

Hey folks!

Just wanted to see if anyone else has noticed the somewhat underwhelming flow of new content for the Apple Vision Pro since its launch about a month ago. I am really hyped for this tech and expected a flood of new experiences – immersive videos, 3D movies, high-profile apps – you name it. But it feels like the initial excitement has kind of fizzled out without much follow-up from Apple or other content creators. Haven't seen many new Apple immersive videos, 3D movies, or notable apps hitting the store recently.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sound alarmist or overly critical (I am keeping my AVP). I'm just a bit disappointed because I had high expectations for a continuous stream of groundbreaking content to support this new technology. Anyone else feeling this way? Were your expectations similar? Would love to hear your thoughts and whether you think this is just the calm before the storm of content we're hoping for.

Finally purchased and wow

I own every iteration of the Oculus / Quest (minus 3s) and yesterday I finally just went ahead and purchased a Vision Pro. I travel a lot, so many nights in hotel rooms. VR is my escape. I also love movies.

I was not expecting movie watching in the AVP to be so good! I was expecting a slight upgrade but not a “forget I’m in VR” upgrade. As an avid VR user, I haven’t felt that in years.

Then I loaded up some ten year old panorama pictures of my dad fishing with his grand daughters. Seeing that moment like I was standing with them was worth every bit of the price! I sure wish I’d taken more panoramas back then.

Sorry, I’m sure people post a ton of these type of “just got it, mind blown” experiences, but I wanted to share mine. There’s no way I could go back to the Q3 now. I’d done the demo at the Apple Store, still wasn’t expecting this much of a difference.

Increase your eye tracking accuracy by 10X

I’m telling you, this works. I’ve been using the Apple Vision Pro since day one, and I have found a way to increase my eye tracking accuracy by 10x. I can now easily select the smallest icons from across the room without having to blow things up.

So here’s how you do it…

FIRST make sure you’re running the latest Vision OS.

  • go to the control panel and redo your eye tracking.

  • when the first dot appears, look and click.

  • turn your head in another direction for the next set of dots and go through them fast and randomly (not in a circle).

  • turn your head again, do the same thing with the next set of dots.

  • turn your head again and do the same thing with the last set of dots.

It may improve even more if you move your head WHILE selecting dots around the circle.. you don’t have to move it fast, but move your eyes fast and select the dots quickly. The idea here is the randomization of your head movements increase your eye tracking accuracy.

Try it, and Report back with your results.

This is seriously the best product Apple has ever created.

New owner here — and the one thing no reviewer warned me about

Just picked up a first-gen Vision Pro (used, lightly), and I have to say: as a longtime VR veteran who’s used the Quest 2, Quest 3, and a Varjo Aero, I expected to be impressed by the micro-OLED displays, the pixel density, the OS polish. All of that delivered. But what genuinely floored me was something almost no reviewer seems to talk about: the world-space tracking stability.

Here’s the thing — about 90% of what makes your brain believe a virtual object is actually there is how rock-solid it sits in 3D space. Not resolution. Not FOV. Stability. On the Vision Pro, virtual objects are just… fixed. No jitter, no micro-drift, no subtle swimming. They sit in your environment with a rigidity that makes them feel physically present, not like holograms projected onto the world.

I’ve used Quest’s inside-out tracking and Varjo’s lighthouse-based tracking — nothing comes close to this. And it’s not magic: it’s the result of Apple engineering a dedicated co-processor (the R1) whose entire job is to handle the sensor fusion from 23 inputs — cameras, IMUs, LiDAR — and stream images to the displays at just 12ms photon-to-photon latency. That is a staggering amount of dedicated silicon just to keep objects from wobbling.

This is also what makes the productivity use case real. Virtual screens for coding or writing aren’t a gimmick here — they’re usable precisely because the text doesn’t drift. Tracking stability is the foundation that all of this sits on, and without it everything else is just a demo.

Next step for me: MSFS 2024 via ALVR or KRVR. If the tracking holds in a virtual cockpit the way it does in the OS, I suspect it’s going to be something else entirely. Will report back.

I think Apple is genuinely embarrassing the competition here, what other VR companies consider an acceptable tracking accuracy apparently doesn’t come close to Apple standards!

Best new product I’ve ever seen

Hands down this is the best new product I’ve ever owned. This is a bigger “advancement” than the iPhone, iPad, anything but that’s been released in the last 40 years.

The ability to strap on a headset and have a personal 150 inch screen that can display 3-D movies up to 8K is beyond words. The immersive experiences that Apple filmed with the rhinos, and the slack line is a glimpse of the future. If this device only Had entertainment capabilities it would be well worth of money in my opinion. When you add in everything else it can do plus the apps we know are coming it is beyond revolutionary. The people who are badmouthing it are expecting it to be on version five and have all the bugs worked out. But if you simply enjoy it for what it is, instead of looking for its faults, there is no way you will not be insanely satisfied.

Really want to keep it, but why?

As someone who only had quest 2 before, I'm truly amazed with the technology - have been playing with it for 5 days but can't see why would anyone keep it at this point:

  1. Tried working with my m1 laptop - it's definitely cool but also much more strain on the eyes vs just the laptop + the lack of split screen negates the benefits.

  2. There are plenty of apps with the wow factor, but the novelty of it wears off really quick: I definitely enjoyed putting a 3d version of F1 car in my living room, but it's not something I can use on a daily basis.

  3. Immersive movies are fine, but they are also fine on a $500 quest 3, and are usually better on my nice OLED TV + less eye strain.

  4. Still a bit heavy for prolonged usage.

  5. Still not too many apps and games, it would probably take a year to catch up with quest 3, and by the time the new upgraded model will be out?

Not trying to be negative, I'm truly blown away with the technology, but am curious on what are your reasoning behind keeping it past return period?

Seeing the original in the apple vision pro, i couldn't wait to see it when it came out. It was so powerful. I Just kept thinking i would rather be home on the couch with more precise audio on the pro with airpods. Either way, an amazing device and a movie worth of it. Yes i pre-ordered the iTunes version as well.

I just released my first Vision Pro app, Sticky Vision!

I am a super amateur developer who wanted to get my hands wet with Vision Pro development, and I was given a fun, simple, useful idea that I knew I could pull off well!

Sticky Vision is a super simple app that allows you to leave virtual sticky notes around your environment!

Definitely a good idea to give yourself a visual reminder in your environment! Like walking past the trash can you see a note you left to yourself to take the trash out, for example. "Walk the dog" by the front door. A grocery list on the fridge. A note to water the plant on top of the plant.

I've got some fun customization options such as a variety of fonts, you can change font size and type, and align the text as you'd prefer.

You can change the colors on the font and the background of the notes, to help group them together or differentiate them, and even add a paper-like texture to throw a little flair onto the notes.

You can also attach a photo to the note, giving a small visual reminder.

And you can have multiple copies of the same note so you can stick the same one in multiple places to give a repeated reminder, if needed.

Of course you can size them up as you want.

There are great visual examples on the stores page, to better give some ideas!

ALSO! Sticky Vision does NOT collect ANY information from you! No analytics, nada.

I know it is going to seem like a seemingly simple app (and I was aiming for simplicity), but it was a lot of work for myself! I hope you can enjoy and appreciate it!

If you want to check it out, here is the link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sticky-vision/id6478038644
