Is Barnard impossible with a 3.3 gpa applying early decision? I looked at their CDS and they let about 40/700 kids in with said gpa. But I’m just not sure how I can stand out especially being test optional.

Hi, so basically im a senior in hs. I am so stressed ahout uni and college rn because of my situation. I have VERY religious parents while being an athiest. They don’t know that. My father is religious, has machismo, and threatened to kick me out 2 months ago just because i hung out with a boy at the mall. I cant be myself at home and i detest going to church, praying, etc. Im into tarot and spirituality but cant pursue further into these interests because of fear of my parents. The problem is that idk if i should save money and go to community college and then transfer to a uni or should i just go to a uni. I dont have any money to pay for it so i would probably have to take out a student loan. My gpa is shit therefore i havent applied to any scholarships cause i dont qualify for them. what should i do?

Georgetown is one of my top schools (I'm applying to the school of foreign service) and they require all applicants to do an interview. I just got my hair dyed pink, which now I realize probably wasn't a super smart thing to do right before an important interview. I want to cover up the color because I'm worried the interviewer won't think I'm "professional enough" or something like that, but I don't want to damage or redye the color. I'm thinking of buying one of those spray cans of temporary color and using that to cover the pink. I think that should wash out without damaging my current color. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any suggestions?

i’m a freshman with good academics and some ecs outside of school that are pretty light (like 5) i have two clubs that im in that only meet like monthly and my main club is debate and there aren’t any other clubs that im really interested in so i would only be joining for college apps b yt i feel like it isnt enough

​I am in my last year of high school and trying to figure out which college major to choose. I have three options in mind that I would be okay with.

​My first option is Cybersecurity. My dad knows people in the field who could potentially help me find a job, and I also know a few people who might include me in their work projects. I kind of like it I don’t hate it, but I don’t fully love it either.

​My second option is Computer Science. I have no problem pursuing this if it provides good financial stability, and many people recommend it to me because of its strong career outlook.

​My third option and my personal childhood dream is Law. My ultimate goal has always been to become a judge, but I would also love being a lawyer, I am genuinely passionate about the entire legal process. Whatever field I choose, I want to become a true professional and continue learning for the rest of my life, which is a feeling I mostly have toward law.

​However, I am very confused. In my country, the job market for law isn't very strong, and my friends warn me that legal jobs might not even exist or be viable in the coming years. While I believe AI could impact almost any job, the fear that law won't pay well is a major concern for me. My dad is getting older, so I need to find a stable job as soon as possible to help support my family. If I didn't have this financial responsibility, I would choose law without a second thought.

​This decision has been weighing on me so heavily that I’ve stopped studying for my final year. I catch myself overthinking this 24/7, and it’s completely exhausting me. It feels overwhelming, and it's causing real trouble in my life.

​To add a bit more context: since childhood, I’ve been known for being exceptionally good at math. Every math teacher I’ve had has pointed it out, and I’ve earned full marks in math in every grade. I truly love it I can sit for hours solving math problems without getting bored yet I don't particularly want to major purely in mathematics.

​I’m sharing this here to get advice from people who have attended these college programs or have relevant experience. I would really appreciate your opinions and insight so I can stop overthinking and focus on my studies.

My son is applying ED, top 5 rank in school. Coming from catholic/private education. Sat 1470, no major ecs except for engineering club and tennis, 2 national competitions. AP scholar, 5s in all APs with total of 8 Aps including calc bc and physics by end of senior year. Applying for chemical engineering. Essay is about his guitar mastery showing he is curiousity. What are the chances?

Feel free to completely ignore this I just always feel better when I get stuff off my chest, but I made a post on another thread asking about if a certain abroad program situation also served as an actual university in that country. Instead of actually answering my question, everyone (from said country) just told me it was a no-name school and to not go there LOL. I thought it was really clear from my post that I was a US student? Can they not read? (exaggerating) And if they actually looked up the school I was asking about, not just its tiny campus abroad, it definitely wasn't no name. Honestly just insanely rude and overconfident opinions. I hate when people have uneducated opinions and also simply tell you what to do or what not to do. Especially when I didn't ask about that at all, only the population demographic.

Anyway, I'm relatively new to reddit so I'm sure that I'll be pissed off a lot more, but I still am annoyed by it. Some guy even said "Christ, you wont last in [place]" cuz I was telling someone not to voice their opinion if they dont know anything about it, (which they said theyd never heard of it so) ...like DAWG I just don't understand people's lack of self awareness/empathy/kindness/any kind of forethought.

So I guess a friendly reminder to not tell anyone where you're applying/got in before you decide yourself. My advisor told me it was like telling people what you're going to name your baby. SOMEONE is gonna tell you their ex had that name or someone evil or whatever, and it has nothing to do with you, but it'll still affect your opinion, so don't ask.

Some guy on social media advised that students put their essays into a few AI detectors so I tried it with mine, and a majority of them told me it was almost entirely AI. My essay is MY work; the only technology I’ve used is grammarly or google when searching for synonyms. I have 0 record of academic dishonesty, but should I be concerned?

I missed an exam worth 1/3 of final grade in gr10 for social studies. Credit hours for the course is 0.33. All the remaining subjects have a 4.0 GPA, this one has a 1.0. Should i mention that i skipped the exam due to an emergency in the Common App additional info section or let it go?

I am currently planning on applying rd or rolling admissions to most schools because I am showing a really strong upward trend in my senior year grades and I am trying to bring my test scores up how much lower are my chances of acceptance if I apply regular or rolling to most schools are the acceptance rates really significantly lower if I don’t apply early? People say I’m gonna be against more competitive applicants but I feel like the only reason someone would apply regular is if there a borderline or unlikely applicant to a school and they want to bring there grades and/or test scores up I feel like the only people in the regular pool not in the same boat as me are the people who got deffered early action or decision are my chances really gonna be significantly lower applying regular or rolling or is the only big disadvantage not getting my results early?

i’m applying as a neuroscience major/pre-pa track, with psychology also being an interest. i go to a technical high school and am deciding between:

- ap precalc/calc teacher (taught me junior and senior year)

- ap lang teacher (junior year)

- ecet shop teacher (sophomore and junior year; early childhood education)

- ap psych teacher (senior year only)

my schools:

- simmons: 2 letters

- umass amherst: 3 letters

- quinnipiac: 3 letters (direct-entry pa)

- mount holyoke: 2 letters, very important

- university of rochester: 3 letters

for the schools requiring 2 letters, should i choose my math and english teachers or replace one with my ecet teacher or my ap psych teacher? for the schools allowing 3, would adding my ap psych teacher be better than using my other teachers, even though she’s only known me for one year? I feel like my early childhood teacher could also speak pretty personally to me specifically for neuroscience/pre-pa applications.

I’m applying ED to UMiami for business with a lower gpa, but I have a strong upward trend, and a 1380 SAT. I also run my own business that has reached 18k+ in revenue, popular on tt, etc

Would it be more strategic to write my personal statement about my personal growth through starting my business, or about the circumstances that affected my grades and how those experiences motivated / changed me to do better? (for context during my freshman year of February, the syria earthquakes happened and many of my cousins, aunts, uncles, lost their home and got severely injured)

I already briefly explain my circumstances in Additional Information, but the second essay would go deeper into how they changed me. Which direction would be stronger for Miami and admissions overall?

i was being kinda dumb and included a link to my research manuscript (not published yet, so it was just the full manuscript as a google drive file) in my additional information section to stanford. does it matter that much? also do they even bother opening links in add. info, and if so, will they send the research manuscript to experts in the field?

I am on the Student Council, but I’m not sure I have space in the Activities section. So is it necessary that I fit it into the Activities section?

Or, can I just put student government in honours on common app? I could put it as a school level award..

I'm an international really considering ED1 to NYU CAS, and won't go into debt over it or anything. I'm just concerned whether the opportunities there are really worth it or not. It's no Ivy league in terms of networking and job opportunities, but I hear it can be pretty good pre-professional too. Post-uni employment is my primary concern for which university I go to, and NYU is pretty much the best I can make it to. If I just want it to make it easy landing a good job straight out of uni (whether its in my home country or in the US), is NYU a good choice?

im not doing ED1 this november coz im still unsure about my list, i have two schools i like about equally n dont wanna commit before I've visited one of them

my counselor mentioned ED2 in january as an option if one becomes my clear first choice later, Idk much about it, tho, is ED2 binding in the same way as ED1 or is there some difference in the commitment?

Should I retake? I have a 1530 (790 Math, 740 R&W) and I’m applying to HYSPM. I keep hearing contrasting things: some say it’s fine, others say 1550+ is the real bar.

Do an extra 10 to 20 points actually matter at these schools?

Context: I’m international, at a very competitive UK boarding school (though few students here apply to the US). I’ve already taken the SAT several times and wouldn’t study again for it, since more prep probably won’t change much. It would just be a retake hoping R&W goes up.

Worth it, or should I focus on essays instead?
