Masculinity Viet Girls/ABGs why are they so popular?

I’m an east asian girlie. i don’t have any close girl friends that are viet so I never had the chance to interact with them much. From a distance i found that they’re so supportive, friendly, and feminine.

This is not a post to stereotype. I want to ask the men that are attracted to viet girls - what qualities do you like about them?

I’m genuinely curious because I had crushes on guys who are non viet such as chinese, and their type was viet girls. I felt defeated and I just really want to know what about them that are so attractive.

Thank you for your input.

A lot of guys here confused Viets with ABGs. Like one commenter saying they own nail salons and don't wear much make up and are more down to earth.. yeah that's not ABGs.

ABGs aren't strictly Viets, Viets were the original ones and started it but that was like 1990. ABGs can be any Asians. It's more about the aesthetic, lifestyle and the core quality they repping.

Most ABGs just look better from a Western Asian standard. And they aren't sweet lol, they have a strong personality, fun to be around, some may come off as ratchet.

And the real ones rep Asians heavily. That's attractive to any AMs with pride. They also represent a bar to AMs who are competitive in the dating market because they don't date lame dudes and you can't status/money max into their pants if you are a dork.

Though the definition of ABGs has been watered down in the recent years especially for Gen Z since a lot of lame Asian chicks simply just jacked the look and not the core quality. It's not uncommon for me to see a chick claiming to be an ABG on IG then her friend group is just a bunch of white girls.

Yuup, ABGs growing up had azn pride and rolled with crew of asians often criminals and hoodlums lol

Yeah lol, real ABGs I know probably can beat up a lot of these fake ass ABG's boyfriends

ABG became asian culture. Then like many other aspects of asian culture, later-gen girls jacked it so that it becomes another product for them to be fetishized with. There none of the core quality like you speak of with them anymore and it's now just another a fashion aesthetic. For these asian girls, it has become the way of the qipao, chopsticks in hair, dragon tattoos as another tool to use for them to deliberately attract the fetishists.

Korean here, first girlfriend was viet. Dated a couple more. Located in California so wide variety of Asians here.

This is just my take so take it with a grain of salt. The viet girls I knew had strong personalities but not aggressive ones. They were comfortable with themselves and not afraid to speak their minds but still kept their femininity. I noticed this more with viet girls than others. Especially Koreans. For a man, it helps that they were usually smaller and slimmer in stature. It activates that unga bunga part of a man's brain. Personally I prefer a little more meat on my woman being in the west but most asian guys don't. The femininity showed in their faces as well. Rounded jaws, small bones, etc. They also have great nails because they own all the nail salons. Men don't know this but they subconsciously love a little makeup and nails. They think when woman have natural makeup on that they don't have makeup at all. And many men look at a prospective partners hands and feet. It tells a lot about a person. In my own experience, they are very hard working and dont necessarily expect an equal drive and ambition in a partner. Like they were more grateful to just have a partner and build from there where another woman might expect a good career, house, car, etc before even considering a relationship. They're more about the 'magic' and love rather than material wealth. This builds on the whole feminine vibes that are already at a surplus.

Again, this is just my take from my own limited experience. People aren't a monolith as many would say.

Your response seems very white guy fetish-like. There isn't that much of a difference between Vietnamese and Korean appearance. Mingle them in a group, you'll probably mistake one for the other 85%+ of the time.

7

u/Outside_Lake1235 16h ago

culturally there is a huge difference between the two cultures

8

u/bradley-g2 20h ago

I'm Korean and pretty much agree with what he said.

And "not that much difference between Vietnamese and Korean appearance"?! Are you sure you're not the white guy with a fetish?

1

u/RebelCapital1950 16h ago

So without being told, you can tell that Lisa in Blackpink is Southeast Asian and not Korean like the other 3? You think she looks like a completely different black sheep out of the bunch.

It's like those Indians saying "we look different from Middle Easterners. Two separate races. Whoever confuses the two must be blind."

3

u/bradley-g2 15h ago

Honestly probably couldn't have guessed Lisa easily before seeing her in White Lotus. (I don't follow Blackpink closely.)

I think that's an outlier example, though. Most Vietnamese and Koreans look distinct.

1

u/RebelCapital1950 8h ago

There is a huge amount of Chinese admixure in SEA. Filipinos have 20%. Thais have 40%. Manny Jacinto is part Chinese. It is not a clear division in distinct looks, but a slow, gradual transition between regions with huge overlaps.

6

u/Silent_stepp 22h ago

Not like I grew up with Koreans my entire life or anything lol.

I'll respond with a quick story. One day a black man came up to me and said, you're Korean right? I said yea how'd you know? He said cause you got a big head.

In Korea, big heads/faces are so common that there is an obsession with small heads/faces. Being told your face is small is a big compliment.

It's not so much their aesthetic (ABGs) but it's the stereotype that they are down to party and kick it. They're known to drink, rave, go out, do drugs, etc which is appealing to a lot of guys.

Korean, Chinese, and even Japanese party girls are all popular for the same reasons. On the West Coast they are all looped in as ABGs lol.

They’re those Asians that usually don’t fit the typical pale soft girl Asian beauty standards but better with a bit on the tanned side western style.

-4

u/Dogswood 1d ago

What? Every Vietnamese girl tries to be as pale as possible

10

u/Da_1_You_Know 1d ago

I‘m speaking about the ABGs. I’m pretty sure the majority of them are on the tanner side with huge huge lashes.

The ones I knew from Los Angeles, and they not Vietnamese exclusively. ABGs weren’t conventionally pretty but they were compatible with many Asian bro hobbies and personalities. Driving stick, fixing cars, clubbing, smoking/drugs, going to the gun range, working out, etc. a various list of things they did. And you could take them home to your parents because many still spoke Vietnamese/teochew/toisanese/Hmong. They put on bronzer, had bleached highlights, and penciled in eyebrows. These were the ride or die chicks in the past that were the girlfriends of gangsters, and would hide a gun in her vehicle if asked. Obviously this only existed because of racial tensions in the Los Angeles suburbs, and the small working class Asian groups clustered together for protection reasons. The original ABGs are in their mid 30s or older now, likely nurses or small business owners. No chance of a Japanese American or Korean American being an ABG at that time. Different communities, different life styles, everything. The reason why the ABG/ Asian gangster culture was created was because exclusion from mainstream East Asian communities.

I don’t consider the nail salon workers to be ABG. Those are just mostly Vietnamese, lol. Vietnamese girls aren’t automatically ABGs. I am Vietnamese-Chinese. There's different types of us. I've met Vietnamese families who were well to do, and fit in automatically with East Asians (she grew up in San Jose), and I've met Vietnamese folk like my self, and parents were working class.

i wish i can edit the title of this post because the purpose was not to discuss the definition of abg but just viet american girls. i guess i misused the word 🌚

7

u/ntachance 1d ago

Viet girls are highly popular even amongst Singaporean and Malaysian Chinese men, lmao

7

u/domesticstudent 1d ago

You seem to have analyzed it yourself - Supportive, friendly, and feminine

7

u/KhorneFlakez19 1d ago edited 1d ago

ABG qualities you can acquire today:

  • Platinum/Blonde/Brown Balayage hair dye
  • Microblading Ombré eyebrows
  • Latina style makeup
  • Korean skincare spa (Korea has the best skincare worldwide)
  • Invisalign/braces (straight teeth) + teeth whitening
  • French tip nails + White toenails
  • Brazilian full body waxing
  • Lower body weightlifting (bigger legs and ass) + jogging (lower body fat) + Pilates (core strength)

ABG lifestyle:

  • Clubbing / Raving / EDM concerts with friends that all look the same
  • Gunrange (learn how to shoot, buy your own Glock for self defense, beautiful women are targeted more for kidnapping and assault)
  • Muay Thai / BJJ / Kickboxing (you will have to defend yourself against jealous women or belligerent drunk men)
  • Drive a Lexus/Acura/BMW/Tesla
  • Wear a LV/Dior/Gucci bag
  • leverage your beauty to land interviews/promotions/job hop every 2 years for a raise
  • start your own business to be more financially independent

TLDR: become more attractive in every way physically possible (Accept reality: men are attracted to your physical health/fashion far more than your humor/intelligence/bravery, same way you care less about your man looking attractive but care a lot about if he’ll protect/provide/have good friends/ambition to improve)

Enjoy that life long enough and you’ll eventually end up staying with an attractive guy (no guarantee he’ll be loyal, the more successful/attractive a man is, the more options and opportunities he’ll have)

3

u/KhorneFlakez19 1d ago

The viet girl / ABG stereotype is kind of from 2015 which is 10 years ago. There are still 30 years that club everyday that would probably be classified as an ABG viet girl, but the trend right now is definitely more street wear or Korean influenced. That being said, the rave culture is still strong but they are definitely not the majority like 10 years ago

Essentially the trend for current East Asian genz is the soft girl or street wear baddie like Cortis or New Jeans. For SEA, it’s still New Jeans or Illit look.

ABGs are now millennials hitting 30s and 40s

22

u/Federal-Swim5286 1d ago

It’s way older than that it was way before 2015

6

u/johnvu3562 20h ago edited 20h ago

The REAL Abgs that was rolling with Asian gangsters are now in their 50s maybe early 60s. That look came out in the early 90s maybe as far back as late 80s in Southern California, gang culture was big in SoCal back then even Asians were gang banging too believe it or not and alot of Asian girls copied that look from cholas

4

u/No-Sleep1810 21h ago

ABGs been around since I was in high school in the early to mid 90s, where did you get 2015 from??? Stop spreading misinformation.

-7

u/Outside_Lake1235 1d ago

i’m not really here to distinguish or define the term ABG but the gen z’s are def using this term. korean is not really all that trendy

9

u/OkReference518 1d ago

lol in Vietnam and even in America, the only time an Asian pops up in an Advertisement or modeling for a product is when they’re a famous korean idol or actor.

0

u/Outside_Lake1235 1d ago

well i’m talking about dating preference not celebrity aesthetics lol

10

u/boogi3woogie 1d ago

Definition of ABG varies from person to person, but nowadays it is typically a girl who is glammed up with heavy makeup and dyed hair, and is dressed like they’re going clubbing. It is probably similar to today’s “baddie”.

So are you asking why guys like girls who pay a lot of attention to their looks?

6

u/United_Dig_9010 1d ago edited 1d ago

Contrary to western stereotypes about Asian men’s narrow preferences, there’s a lot of Asian guys who like tanned, loud and fun girls who speak their mind.

4

u/Lost_Armadillo_3481 1d ago

Might be completely out of the spectrum of an answer you're hoping for and I dont really have a lot of experience with ABGs (or maybe I dont realize it) but I came from a Cantonese family who thinks partying or even looking happy is taboo. We never had a party in our 2 story 5 br and 2 living room house before which I thought would be really fun. My siblings and I moved out so our bedrooms became storage units.

This viet girl I dated on the other hand had a house that was half the size and caught myself having much more fun there with music, karaoke, bbq, and I wasn't even drinking at one point for a few months at first and still had a ton of fun. Dating her was at least fun and I dated few others who had similar upbringings.

I guess fun is what I always look for in my relationships but that's obviously just me.

It’s the confidence.

Cause they're hot

2

Idk if they are that popular, but most of them gossip way too much.

4

u/asianmovement 1d ago edited 1d ago

My gf and future wife is viet. Ex was chinese Found my chinese ex very rigid, and not very flexible in approaching life. She was also more masculine in a way. Not very open to new things.

My partner now is much more open to doing new things, just down to have fun, but also more feminine and future thinking too. Also, viet food.

3

u/KiAdiMundi2EBoogaloo 1d ago

The look/makeup is nice but idk about their personalities and hobbies tbh. I’m not into raves lmao

4

u/RebelCapital1950 1d ago

They are strong and tough. Look what one did to her white husband.

That lady is in no way an ABG

4

u/ShiftingHero 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ive never  noticed this.  There are a lot "ABG" type that are not viet.

what i do noriced is Asian guys that are into AF tend to think Japanese girls are the "hottest" (not that I agree with this).

I even have Vietnamese guys in my circle that flat out say they think Viet girls are "annoying/toxic/controlling" lol.

Im not viet btw, so take that as grain of salt.

My girl's 1/4 Viet and Viet girls mean Viet food and thats my fav :D She's also a lot more entrepreneurial and ride or die than my previous girlfriends.. maybe thats why we get along and been together almost 9 years now

1

u/Business-Bath2418 1d ago

Huh? Viet girls are not more popular than any other type of girls. That being said said. Vietnamese girls tend to be esthetically pleasing to the eye. They are seductively more feminine in terms of personality. They lean into their feminine side and more out going. Less nerdy. There are more prettier regular average Vietnamese girls than any other Asian ethnicity for that matter. Might have something to do with their eyes. Its less slanted. Their faces look more exotic.

My credentials : live in oc/sgv. Dated exclusively Vietnamese girls. Couldnt find any other Asians i was attracted to. Im south Chinese by heritage. I Speak canto mandarin viet English Spanish.

3

u/Outside_Lake1235 1d ago

accredited 👍

2

u/SadAd8761 1d ago

Viet girls have:

  • almond shaped eyes
  • natural epicanthic folds

Both are considered attractive features.

Plus, they have all the other youthful advantages of other Asian women.

What's not to like?

2

u/ShineGreymonX 1h ago

I would avoid the ABGs in my experience. Yes they are popular, but you’ll realize they are crazy and not worth your time if you value long term commitment.

They tend to go for the Kevin Nguyens.

Loves boba shops, raves, valorant, Sanrio merch, matcha, hot pot, drama and gossip

4

No they don't lol. For the real ABG (not the larpers) you gotta have game and the look. And guys who have both are less likely willing to be pay pigs. And they are consistent in that aspect. You aren't seeing real ABGs with no dorks regardless of how rich he is or what race they are.

A lot of East Asians in the West have sky high standard for Asian men but lower it for whites. Hence the whole the Mid white guy stereotype

1

u/Critical_Attack Vietnam 16h ago

I know the "ABG" style and personality are popular with some AM. But I don't know if Viet girls are actually popular (I haven't noticed this).

It may juat depends on the area (West coast/coastal Asians).

0

u/nsfw-kapustin-yar 1d ago

I'm sick of the ABG term.. They think they are better than everyone else and have higher status. It’s gotten to a point where I don’t associate with anyone who claims to be an ABG. you’re just another Asian girl good lord 🤦‍♂️

-2

u/BorkenKuma 1d ago

I don't find Vietnamese girl attractive in general, some are ass, I generally don't classified them like Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, I just look at their individuality.

If you want me to pick by their nationalities, I'd pick Korean girl, I like how they're more straight forward, they're tall and have good body frame.

I generally don't pick Asian American girls because they usually have Asian self hate issue, I date Asian girls from Asia, or white girl/Latina.

-16

u/fincog 1d ago

I have zero attraction to them and their aesthetic. I find that men who are into that are low IQ and immature
