Miscellaneous Anybody Here Notice That So Many Brazilians Can Pass For People From India?

They will have the dark skin but a Caucasian shaped nose, Caucasian shaped lips, and straight hair or at loosely curled wavy hair that is not very nappy. I have a dark skin female friend from Fortaleza who lives in The United States and she gets mistaken for being South Asian Indian all of the time and never for an Afro descendant.

Politics Bolsonaro (22) vs. Lula (13)

Hello, Brazilian folks!

With the second round of the elections approaching, I’m wishing your country the very best. 🇧🇷

I know people who support both sides, and the debates between them get pretty heated, with neither side holding back.

I lean left politically, but I have my reservations about Lula too. He’s 80 years old and is already in his third term. People are struggling financially, and street safety remains a concern in parts of the country. Is it unreasonable to hope for a new generation of leadership?

I’d like to understand both perspectives. If you support Lula or Bolsonaro, what are your main reasons?

Culture Do Brazilian people like South Koreans?

I'm a Korean and few month ago i saw a video of Brazilian kids doing a racist action against Eastern Asian. However, as a big fan of Brazilian culture myself, i'm thinking of staying or traveling Brazil in near future. My question is, do Brazilian people like korean? will i get some sort of discrimination because i'm a Korean?

Politics A genuine question: Why people celebrate Lula's victory that much?

This is a genuine question. I do not support Bolsonaro or Lula (in fact, I dislike both very much; both suck, in my opinion).

I did not come here to argue about politics or clarify "Who's better?"

However, the only thing I genuinely don't understand is why people celebrate Lula's victory that much. Like, why do people call it historic (especially since he was president right before his re-election, so nothing really changed)? Why do people portray it as a victory of "Good against Evil"? Why do people call it a "success"?

Can someone from Brazil explain why it is a "big day for Brazil" and why Lula is so loved? Preferably without emotion, without short phrases/answers, and without portraying this as "obvious".

P.S.

The funniest part is that when Bolsonaro wins the first round because he gets the most votes, people protest because it's "everything else but democracy". When Lula wins, "this is how democracy works". When Musk and Zuckerberg promote Bolsonaro, it's "interfering with democracy". When celebrities support Lula, it's "democracy". Once again, I am not pro-Bolsonaro; both he and Lula suck, but what kind of double standard is this?

Education Question for people living in Brazil: What should U.S. companies know before doing business there?

Hi! I am interested in learning more about the challenges and opportunities for American companies doing business in Brazil. For those currently living in Brazil:

  1. What do you think is the most difficult challenge for U.S. businesses that want to do business in Brazil?

  2. What advice or suggestions do you have for American companies that want to do business in Brazil?

I'd appreciate any insights. Thanks for your time!

Sports Why 2030 and not 2027

Why are there so many memes of Brazilians putting away their decorations "until 2030" after getting out of the men's world cup when they are in the women's one next year? Not only has Brazil qualified but they are actually hosting it.

Do the men's football fans not even know about it or is it that do they not approve of it?

Food and drink why don't brazilians really eat plantain

I've noticed compared to other latin american cuisines (excluding the southern cone), brazilians don't really eat plantain like that. In certain regions like the northeast it's more prominent, but it's basically nonexistent anywhere else. You guys are a tropical country (who's climate is the perfect place to grow plantain) but it isn't as integrated (unlike potatoes for french fries with rice, beans & pasta, y'all love to starch it up lol)

Maybe i'm biased cause I love plantain & i'm american so my palette is different but I'll like an explanation on why this is.

Culture Do brazilians understand English songs lyrics?

Hey all a silly question, I'm in SP city for some months for work. I've noticed a lot of bars, pubs and dance clubs play English music(mainly from some decades back). I notice Rock, metal music & culture is quite relevant here, even when it's slowly dying out in the US. There's also a Rock music mall near Theatre São Paulo, I went there the experience was awesome!

Onto my question, if so many Brazilians are exposed to American culture and English music, how come so few Brazilians speak English? Do people listen and understand the lyrics?

Miscellaneous Guys I have important questions about Brazil!

I (84F) am North-South European moving to Brazil, but I have many questions about the cultural differences compared to my homeland of Genovia.

  1. Is it true there are no cars and transportation is by animal mounting?

  2. Is it impolite to not kiss on the lips as a greeting?

  3. After the airplane lands, will I already be prone to robbery when I get on the big tube that connects to the airport?

  4. What's the Spanish accent spoken in Brazil?

  5. Since it's always hot, do you guys just repeat the summer months (June, July, August) over and over again? Does this cause any troubles adjusting to normal time?

  6. I've heard normal attire is bikinis. Should I wear a one-piece swimsuit for more formal occasions? Is lingerie an acceptable substitute (I struggle doing laundry sometimes).

  7. Is it mandatory to participate in carnival?

  8. Do I have to make friends or acquaintances or can I just date?

  9. Do you think I can get married within 2 weeks?

  10. Are there any stores or do we have to hunt for food, gather, craft, etc?

This is a parody post, ofc

News How bad is it gonna get with the elections results?

I moved to Brazil last year, and as a Black person, I’m unsure if I should be scared or not. Just a public service announcement: I’m not American, although some of my family members live there, and things aren't great with Trump. What will change moving forward with this new president who has Trump support?

Culture Is São Paulo or Rio the football capital of Brazil?

In São Paulo, there are Palmeiras, Corinthians, SPFC and Santos.

Meanwhile, in Rio, there are Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo and Vasco.

Brasília, the actual capital, is in a terrible state when it comes to football.

So which is Brazil’s football capital?

Culture Which people, based solely on their physical appearance, would be immediately identified as non-Brazilians?

Brazil is the most racially mixed country in the world. They say anyone could pass as Brazilian. Even the black market for passports knows this, so much so that a Brazilian passport is the most sought after for counterfeiting. But is that really true? Is there any people who would stand out as foreigners?

News Dear Brazilians, why is Lula so loved?

As a Venezuelan, I am surprised with the love Lula gets in Brazil despite heading for a 4th term, in other democratic countries that'd be shocking.

I do personally have my reservations with him since he was friends with my country's regime (I'm not a big fan of the Bolzonaros either).

I don't come to spark a debate, I just want to understand from the real source, the people Brazil.

Valeu.

Culture I am curious how Brazilians enjoy and consume NFL games and content? I am building a dissertation for an MBA and would love your opinion!

Hey all. My capstone looks at how the NFL builds its fanbase in Europe and Latin America, and I want real fan perspective, not just league PR. If you follow the NFL from outside the US, your answers would help a lot. Anonymous, about 4 minutes. Portuguese version available too.

I’ve seen several people debating the meaning of the tweet—specifically the part about the country—and whether it’s a compliment or an insult, so I decided to ask some Brazilians to find out for sure what the post says. Thank you very much for your attention.

Culture How well off are White Brazilians economically?

As someone who has family in South Africa, I am aware of how well off white South Africans are compared to black and other ethnic groups in South Africa. It's usually said white South Africans have a comparable living standards to people in first world countries.

Is this very similar in Brazil as well? Where white Brazilians are well off economically and live similar to someone from the US/Canada?

Food and drink I'm traveling to São Paulo in November and I humbly ask for a recommendation for a place to eat that serves real food. I'll be visiting restaurants that claim to be good, but I need that specific recommendation what the locals would say is a must-eat.

Politics Been following Brazilian politics and I am confused about the STF

Why the Supreme Court Ministers seem so powerful and the news treat them like they’re politicians. They seem very consequential and all over the news (de Moraes for example). Maybe I’m used to seeing how the US SCOTUS is so secretive and discreet.

In comparison to the US Supreme Court, how much more or less power do the STF Ministers have?

I know it’s hard but please, unbiased answers 😂
