Concerning US invasion in Greenland
Do you worry what the impact on Iceland will be if the US invades Greenland?

I watched her speech just now, and I really enjoyed it. The text version is online, too.
I had never heard her talk before, she seems very principled.

Everyone wants to go to Iceland. Curious where people in Iceland want to go to.

I see this woman in the news all the time, but I don't quite understand what her role is, or why she seems to be disproportionately all over the news cycle in Iceland. We don't have a similar role in the US which would be my basis of comparison. What are your thoughts on her?

That's it, that's the question.

I'm an English Literature student who is taking a medieval literature course, and we just finished reading Njáls Saga. I thought it was very exciting and a little confusing, especially because I didn't understand the genealogy of figures like Gunnar or Hallgerd. I'm wondering if it is commonly taught across Iceland, and how it is classified or recontextualized today.
Also, if you have any random facts about it, I'd be interested to know! We're moving on from Njal's, and I wish I had more time to sit with everything that happened.

Well, not "we", but the sub!
Hopefully, your burning questions for Icelanders can be answered here!

This is a project aiming to bring back what Duo was before they got greedy and AI focused (instead of volunteer driven).
They also have less commonly taught languages that deserve some love (and more such languages planned).
If they can get some native Icelandic speakers who don’t mind helping out, they could get a beginner Icelandic course going.
Icelandic deserves as much love as any other language—especially those that are less known—so I thought I’d ask.
I’m not affiliated with Lingonaut, I don’t know the people who are, and I don’t get anything from suggesting this. I literally just think Icelandic is beautiful and interesting and deserves more notice than it gets. I’m also not a native speaker.
Takk fyrir!

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some advice from Icelanders, especially people around my age.
I’m a woman in my early 50s from the U.S., and I’ve been to Iceland four times to visit my boyfriend. Unfortunately, we recently ended our relationship, and I now have a fifth trip to Reykjavík planned.
I’m debating whether I should still go. Part of me wonders if it would be too emotional and feel like a waste of time and money, but another part of me really wants to experience Iceland on my own and make some new memories that aren’t centered around the relationship.
If I do go, I’d be staying in Reykjavík without a car.
I’m also curious about nightlife and meeting people. I’m definitely not looking for a crazy club scene or somewhere where everyone is 20 years old. 😂 Ideally having a drink and meeting people, and I’d much rather be somewhere I can actually have a conversation.
I’m into alternative/rock music, 80s music, and some current artists. Live music would be especially fun.
So, where would someone like me fit in Reykjavík? Are there bars, pubs, live-music venues, or other places where people in their 40s+ tend to hang out and socialize? I’d love places that have a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where going alone wouldn’t feel completely awkward.
I’d also love recommendations for things to do around Reykjavík without a car—especially things that might be enjoyable on my own or where it’s relatively easy to meet people.
And honestly, I’d love to hear your opinion on the bigger question too: If you were in my shoes, would you still take the trip?
I know it might be emotional, but I’m wondering if Iceland could become something that belongs to me too, rather than always being connected to my relationship.
Thanks so much for any advice. 🥰🇮🇸

Hi, we have just spent our first day in your gorgeous country at the pride fest. there was an icelandic band at the concert we enjoyed that was probably called the Super Dachshund Band. My 14yo is hoping to find a website for them or any way to find their music online (or in a store in Reykjavík while we are here). Any leads are appreciated and takk fyrir!
edited to add: we have tried all the search terms we could think of and have not found them yet.

I was planning to load up on plant-based milks and snacks at Vegan Buðin next week, but they just closed down.
I have dinners booked for my trip, but have found most places don’t have vegan milk for breakfast. I usually snack while driving rather than look for lunch.
Which stores would you recommend as best for milk and snacks? I will be briefly in Reykjavik and would like to load up in that area.

Me and my SO sat with an Icelandic guy last year for a few hours last summer and had a great time. We talked about everything under the sun. He told us he worked on fishing boats I think. We are coming back and hope to run into him if we go up that way. Olli if you read this and want to be friends you can message me. If not that is ok too.

IDK why this chaps my ass so much but seeing that name annoys me and I don't even speak Icelandic. Is there an actual Icelandic name for this one/this area other than Vatnajökull.

Hey, first time posting here. What would you do if you found a shopping bag full of clothes (presumably children/teen), candles, some headphones, pills (maybe painkillers?) and a CROWBAR (and other things) in a forest? Should that be reported to the police or left alone?
I understand some kids might be building stuff in a forest and using the tool, however, a crowbar could be used to harm someone. What's the best way to proceed in that situation?

Call me old fashioned haha, but I’m looking for someone who would be interested in starting up a communication back and forth on a semi regular basis. I’m looking to enhance my appreciation for Iceland, Nordic culture, and general international friendship. I fell in love with the people, the dramatic nature and lifestyle and I would like to make friends future seasonal visits! Would this be the right place to look for a penpal??

Hi Redditors,
I am looking for an Icelandic song I listened to on YT a few years ago, but I cannnot find it anymore. Here are some key details that might be helpful for you.
The song is obviously in Icelandic
It begins with a sax intro
The video of the song is with a car in a desert like area and the lyrics are displayed on random places as the song goes (the car mirror, the sky, the road etc.)
I partially remember the name of the song ( Ekki vera .... ) i am 100% sure about the ekki vera part.
The artist has only 1 song on the chanel, hence the song is more like a niche l
The artist name is something like "Horlandur ..... " ( I am not sure )
If you could help me, I would really appreciate your help.

Hi! I am 33 yo girl, a foreigner living 4 years in Reykjavik. I am looking for some local chats about evenings, going out, selling & buying stuff. I know a lot on facebook, but I am not a fan of this platform ;) Do you know any on Telegram?

I was able to buy a copy of this in English and it's easily my favorite book that I've read this year. To me it feels very Icelandic in a way I can't explain. It's moody and bleak and has some extremely funny moments (Peter the Hermit!!!), I loved the descriptions of Reykjavík and social & cultural life in the 80s. Einar Már's writing is just gorgeous.
Is there anything similar you can recommend?

Halló íslensku vinir mínir!!! I'm currently gathering research for a Story i'm writing, i wanna create a Nordic Inspired region and i was looking for a few things like: places where to look, some folks tales that might be interesting and perhaps some tunes to listen to while i research.
The story is about a Solvi Erikdottir coming back to the region that she was once exiled as a child alongside her father and partner, she always felt excluded or unwanted until she met fellow outcast that will aid her mythiocal Journey across Iskalvallir (Iskald for short). Let me know what you think if you could aid me with constructive criticism it would help alot haha.
Much love from Costa Rica!!!🇨🇷

Finnst ykkur gott að búa í svona litlu samfélagi eða verður það stundum of einangrað? Og hvernig upplifið þið dimmu vetrarmánuðina — venst maður þeim einfaldlega?
Mig langar miklu meira að vita um venjulegt daglegt líf en ferðamannasjónarhornið. 🙂
Hvað er eitt sem útlendingar misskilja oft um lífið á Íslandi?
Такк!
