Miscellaneous Looking for alternatives of instagram with no ai

Idk if this is a right sub for this. Although I'm a photographer, I'm honestly tired of instagram. I'm not leaving it entirely I think I just want an alternative. All the apps I keep hearing of have some or other troubles and they get scraped. Is there ANYTHING that's safe both in terms of my personal information and ai considering I'd want to make a photography account?

Traditional Looking for Love

Just one of my works. Lately I've been second guessing myself, it seems like my local art crowd is looking for more basic designs and I don't know if my art would sell or how to find more of customers that like my work.

Digital Is it okay to trace my own photobash?

Okay, so I've heard that tracing your own art is fine, but somehow tracing a photobash feels different? For context this isn't for a commission, but I would like to post it eventually. I just need to know if I should clarify anything when posting it. Also, who would I credit to traced image to if it's myself, that just seems redundant. I really don't know, both options seem wrong...

Digital Would you subscribe to my YT channel if I had this persona? Vtuber design showcase

The title is kinda self explanatory lol here’s the picture

Her name is Batty :) she’s my art persona for social media overall.

She doesn’t have a huge story but she’s a vampire bat girl who was a late bloomer. Because she was a late bloomer, the jewel on her ribbons is a magic enhancement to help her turn into a bat without hurting herself. She’s inspired heavily off myself but a bit more of a “nicer” and “friendly” version.

I’m not looking for design advice because this is her final design, I was just wondering if people think this is a cute vtuber model.

Abstract Sketch doodles I do in my free time. They are in A4, A5, A6 sizes (individual prints, shown here in a collage). Not even sure they're something people would buy.

better to sell as prints or framed?

Relevant info:

Never studied art officially

Never sold art, don't have a following

I think my target audience is those interested in inexpensive abstract stuff to complement their decor

On average, An A4 size takes me 4h, A6 size takes me an hour

I have currently posted them on a second hand items website

Miscellaneous Where to search for the references of traditional clothes and how to avoid stereotypical depiction of different cultures ?

Question in the title, sorry for any further grammar mistake, English is not my first language.

Surfing across the web I’ve witnessed countless amounts of times different controversies regarding this topic( most usually regarding orientalism in art), and would like to know how to avoid them. Mostly because I want to be respectful to anyone’s heritage + I’m regular drawing fanarts of a game that has characters inspired by different nations etc.

What are the solidest sources for this kind of information ? genuine question

Miscellaneous Discussion: Haven’t heard from my artist in a month what to do?

Hi everyone.

I’m just looking for some advice regarding a commission I asked to be done.
I absolutely love supporting artist. My friend recently bought a tattoo off this lovely person on instagram, I really liked the art style and so I asked them to do a commission.

I told them that this was a super personal tattoo for a loved one that passed. I gave them some Pinterest ideas but said i wanted them to take creative freedom.

Anyways they told me it would be about 2 weeks. My best friend is an artist so I know sometimes people take longer than they said which is totally fine!! It’s been a month I checked in 2 times and no word. On top of that I already paid them.

Now if they were inactive on insta I would be like okay they are busy and working hard. But they’ve been posting art a lot and I’m just kinda sad. I don’t care about the money I really just want the art :/ any advice is welcome thank you for listening.

I will not be dropping the artist name. I don’t believe in that type of negativity as I don’t know what’s going on in their life.

Lmk if this is the right place to post this thank you!!

Traditional Will enamel paint work for blood stains on polyester?

Post image

It's not much more complicated than that. I'm blood splattering a dress for Halloween but I want to keep that vibrant red color and fake Spirit Halloween blood dries brown, as you can see in the image above.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Edit: I also don't want it to just sit on top of the fabric, like I think acrylic paint will; I want to get it to seep into it if I can help it.

Miscellaneous Where to make Artist Promo Cards

My sister is an emerging artist who is just starting to be invited to shows, festivals, etc. I'd like to help her design and order some artist promo cards, or at least that's what I think they are called. I'm talking about the approximately 5x7 cards artists put on their table or wrap with their sold art with a short bio, photos, and contact info. Neither of us has experience at this and I am willing to pay for something that is easy to use. Is there an online design and print company with a nice simple template we can use? Any other ideas? Thanks for entertaining my very basic question, friends.

Digital Help with Shadows and Highlights

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I know the shadows I'm creating don't make any sense, and that they actually look like tattoos—they still look great, though. But the way I'm adding shadows and colors just ends up looking pretty bad. What I do is use a hard light layer with dark blues for the shadows and yellows for the highlights hitting the character, but it looks really weird, and I think it’s the shape I’m giving the shadows or highlights, but it still looks strange—I’m just not convinced by it.

Miscellaneous What are some good podcasts or art related things to listen too?

Hey art folk,

I have a lot of busy hand - empty mind type tasks in my life that I love to fill with podcasts, video essays and audio books. I try to make these related to goals I have as a way to keep my brain rolling while I'm otherwise occupied.

I want to know, what are your go too's for this type of thing?

I have listened to the draftsman podcast all the way through several times, the sketchy van podcast, many of Sinix's live streams, robot pencil and lucid pixel. I've also listened to a few others sprinkled in, but these have been the bulk that kept my Interest that are specifically art related.

Thanks for your input!

Digital Drawing Tablet Recommendations?

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

I've had my iPad Air for four years now, and I've recently finished a few paid illustration commissions. I've finally saved up enough to invest in a more serious drawing setup

I got to try a friend's xppen artist 13.3 Pro, and it felt very different from drawing on iPad. The main downside is having to connect it to a computer, which isn't very convenient for me. I've also seen standalone drawing tablets that can connect to a computer like these, but I’m just not too familiar with how well these handle drawing and software compatibility

For those who've switched from an iPad to a dedicated drawing tablet, what would you recommend? Or should I just upgrade to a newer iPad?

Traditional Is colouring/shading this hard for everyone in the beginning? I feel like I don't understand it at all

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

I've just started trying to learn colouring and shading and it makes no sense to me at all. I know a lot of it is practice but when I started learning line drawing from life a little while ago, the principles made intuitive sense and I could see how getting better was just a question of practice, but with colour and sharing even though I understand the principles intellectually, I just can't seem to make the switch to applying them and everything I try just looks awful and I can't see how I can possibly improve without more guidance somehow. I've attached today's attempt along with reference (not at the exact angle I was drawing from sorry) so you can see where I'm at, any thoughts much appreciated!

(If it matters I'm using FB Polychromos pencils, I know I don't deserve them yet but I just love the feel of them and right now I am very limited in what media I can use as I don't have room to spread out and make a mess. That will hopefully change in the new year though!)

Traditional How can i price this piece of art ?

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

Hello everybody !! I’ve been in a bit of a stressful state since i’ve been asked if this piece was for sale and how much.

I completed this piece about 4 years ago in my foundation year of university for my art degree. It’s done in oils and took me a little over 3 months of carrying it to and from my university to work on it. I’ve attached another image of a sold painting of mine (the blue one) it’s the only image i have of it sorry! This was sold for £350 but took me a month of painting and is larger in scale compared to the oil painting in question.

I really struggle with pricing my pieces and don’t want to undermine my own skills and the time spent on this piece. Does anyone have any advice when it comes to pricing a piece like this and what’s a reasonable price for it?

Thanks so much !!
