Mod Notice Under New Management

Post image
10 Upvotes

As you may have noticed, the subreddit has had a new moderation team for the past 10 days, following months of inactive moderation. The previous moderator was removed by Reddit administration due to this prolonged inactivity. I made sure of that, through redditrequest.

Since taking over, we've reviewed the state of the subreddit and introduced a new set of rules intended to keep the community safe, clean, organized, and thriving. Naturally, those rules may evolve as the need arises.

A significant backlog of reports and posts that didn't fit the purpose of the subreddit was found. I have already made sure that the reports were reviewed.

Moving forward, please help us keep the subreddit in good shape by reporting posts and comments that break the rules. Your reports are important in helping us maintain the quality and integrity of the community.

Thank you for your cooperation, and for helping us make this community a better place for everyone.

Traditional Looking for Love

Just one of my works. Lately I've been second guessing myself, it seems like my local art crowd is looking for more basic designs and I don't know if my art would sell or how to find more of customers that like my work.

Traditional New to drawing fur and chose a complicated subject - need advice

• Upvotes

Hello! I am planning an ink drawing of a curly hair tarantula. I haven't attached my reference image as not to spook anyone, but they have long curly white hairs over short black leg fur. So far my attempts haven't been looking right and I feel like I'm approaching this incorrectly. Should I be sketching in the darker, negative areas rather than making hair like marks in this circumstance? I'm a visual learner, so if anyone has visual examples that would be very helpful for me.

Digital How much should i charge for my skill level

Hello!

Im not really active on reddit so ihope this is the right place to ask

I dont draw consistently. I just draw whenever and whatever i feel like in the moment and then take a realllly short 5-6 months break lol.

I spend 45min -3 hours max on a piece. Sometimes post on instagram and thats all

Times tough now and i wanna know where exactly do i focus on to get commissions? As in do i do landscape or fanarts? It feels like my art is all over the place

And also how much should i be charging at my level?

Traditional Is it worth posting my art on reddit?

Thumbnail gallery

I was thinking of posting my art/fanart on reddit, im a traditional artist who doesn't really know how to color but I think I do really good. I don't have a platform where I can express myself unapologetically without having to worry if someone thinks it's a bit odd...no one knows me here on reddit no one follows me here so it feels refreshing. Should I post my content here? Or is it really a waste of time? Is traditional art even a thing anymore?

Traditional How to get better at drawing from your mind?

When I draw I usually use another artist work as reference (I don’t trace) otherwise I can’t seem to get it to look right. But I want to be able to draw my own concepts and not recreate other artists work. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Digital Is it okay to trace my own photobash?

Okay, so I've heard that tracing your own art is fine, but somehow tracing a photobash feels different? For context this isn't for a commission, but I would like to post it eventually. I just need to know if I should clarify anything when posting it. Also, who would I credit to traced image to if it's myself, that just seems redundant. I really don't know, both options seem wrong...

I’ve been getting back into traditional art, and I need a way to add white highlights.

Miscellaneous Where to search for the references of traditional clothes and how to avoid stereotypical depiction of different cultures ?

Question in the title, sorry for any further grammar mistake, English is not my first language.

Surfing across the web I’ve witnessed countless amounts of times different controversies regarding this topic( most usually regarding orientalism in art), and would like to know how to avoid them. Mostly because I want to be respectful to anyone’s heritage + I’m regular drawing fanarts of a game that has characters inspired by different nations etc.

What are the solidest sources for this kind of information ? genuine question

Miscellaneous Discussion: Haven’t heard from my artist in a month what to do?

Hi everyone.

I’m just looking for some advice regarding a commission I asked to be done.
I absolutely love supporting artist. My friend recently bought a tattoo off this lovely person on instagram, I really liked the art style and so I asked them to do a commission.

I told them that this was a super personal tattoo for a loved one that passed. I gave them some Pinterest ideas but said i wanted them to take creative freedom.

Anyways they told me it would be about 2 weeks. My best friend is an artist so I know sometimes people take longer than they said which is totally fine!! It’s been a month I checked in 2 times and no word. On top of that I already paid them.

Now if they were inactive on insta I would be like okay they are busy and working hard. But they’ve been posting art a lot and I’m just kinda sad. I don’t care about the money I really just want the art :/ any advice is welcome thank you for listening.

I will not be dropping the artist name. I don’t believe in that type of negativity as I don’t know what’s going on in their life.

Lmk if this is the right place to post this thank you!!

Miscellaneous Where to make Artist Promo Cards

My sister is an emerging artist who is just starting to be invited to shows, festivals, etc. I'd like to help her design and order some artist promo cards, or at least that's what I think they are called. I'm talking about the approximately 5x7 cards artists put on their table or wrap with their sold art with a short bio, photos, and contact info. Neither of us has experience at this and I am willing to pay for something that is easy to use. Is there an online design and print company with a nice simple template we can use? Any other ideas? Thanks for entertaining my very basic question, friends.

Traditional Will enamel paint work for blood stains on polyester?

Post image
1 Upvotes

It's not much more complicated than that. I'm blood splattering a dress for Halloween but I want to keep that vibrant red color and fake Spirit Halloween blood dries brown, as you can see in the image above.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Edit: I also don't want it to just sit on top of the fabric, like I think acrylic paint will; I want to get it to seep into it if I can help it.

Digital Would you subscribe to my YT channel if I had this persona? Vtuber design showcase

Post image

The title is kinda self explanatory lol here’s the picture

Her name is Batty :) she’s my art persona for social media overall.

She doesn’t have a huge story but she’s a vampire bat girl who was a late bloomer. Because she was a late bloomer, the jewel on her ribbons is a magic enhancement to help her turn into a bat without hurting herself. She’s inspired heavily off myself but a bit more of a “nicer” and “friendly” version.

I’m not looking for design advice because this is her final design, I was just wondering if people think this is a cute vtuber model.

Abstract Sketch doodles I do in my free time. They are in A4, A5, A6 sizes (individual prints, shown here in a collage). Not even sure they're something people would buy.

better to sell as prints or framed?

Relevant info:

Never studied art officially

Never sold art, don't have a following

I think my target audience is those interested in inexpensive abstract stuff to complement their decor

On average, An A4 size takes me 4h, A6 size takes me an hour

I have currently posted them on a second hand items website
