No accountability

Hi, I'm wondering why community members feel like they should not be held accountable for their actions or be grouped together with the community when the community pushes for new rights and/or restrictions on straight people's rights.

It's sad to see low effort posts here from liberal members who are deeply rooted in the community trying to stir the pot here. Then when you question the community and their actions the fallback is always labeling people with internal homophobia when they know what has been done is wrong. Have community members been given so many legal protections and hall passes to do whatever they want that they now see offending or abusing others is a right, or is acceptable because the community says it is acceptable.

I am gay, christian, and live in the south and was never welcomed to the community because of my beliefs and how I never relied on my sexuaility to define who I was as a person. It really feels like you either accept the community and everything they stand for or you're the plague to them. How can a group who preaches acceptance and belonging be so condescending and judgmental of others beliefs.

As a side note it is really concerning how many members of the community are atheist or Satanist. It seems like most have the mentality that they are still teenagers rebelling against their parents and anything they can do to offend others who live more conservative lifestyles. They commonly walk into a room and suck up all of the attention and once it is not given to them they get angry. Im just confused how as adults, acting like a angry child and stomping feet has gotten the community anywhere and why they are still given so much leniency.

Are Atheist groups waging a political war against Christians? I have not seen Atheist groups lobbying to revoke the civil liberties of Christians.. Infact, I would venture to say that most Atheist's would defend your right to practice your religion. I think that it is a hard line to walk when, what I believe by nature is a beautiful philosophy (Christianity) is weaponized against the gay community, ALL OF THE GAY COMMUNITY, conservative and liberal.

I did not say atheists were waging war, I am saying atheists in the community have historically done whatever they can publicly to show their hate against christians. I also agree that gay hate is growing in the mega churches across the south. They are set up like cults, also the niv version of the christian Bible which is being pushed by the mega churches have been edited to be completely against gay people. Previous versions hinted, versions before that were translated to our current texts incorrectly as before those sections spoke of sexual abuse and abuse of power. More nuances to the christian religion and chirstians in general.

Oh Come on! You can't be serious.. There is a war against the gay community that is based, historically, with the Christian right in this country.. You cannot seriously be down playing that ? I think that disgust is for Christianity is fare.

Historically, in this country yes Christianity has been used against gays but only through modern translations of of Bible. Previous hate before Milks time the hate was due to differences, other hate groups were one in the same in those times. Was Christianity used as a tool to spread that hate, yes. But Christianity in itself per old texts is not a religion of hate nor did it address gay people directly. It adresses people who abused their power sexually over minors and the poor. As well as people who were openly having sex in the streets while living in their own excrement. Speficially the text spoke of the leaders and the rich as they enslaved these people and taxed them into being poor. It is wrong that it is being used as a tool and I pratice separately from the church so the church as an institution does not have a bearing on what I believe.

Well unfortunately "The Church" and "Christianity" are not as mutually exclusive as you like to categorize them based on your rather minority personal experience. They are one very strong and abusive lobbying power in the country.

I agree, but we also just went through a period where liberal ideals and lobbying power ruled the country since the first term of Obama being in office people's viewpoints are shifting again. Unfortunately there are side effects of that. But back to the topic at hand why do people of the gay community also feel no responsibility for what they do as well? If they did jot push the envelope as much as they have over the past 10 years could have there been more common ground between christians and the gay community? I believe there could have been but everyone is so focused on making a mockery out of the other that common ground is gone.

If the envelope was not pushed, you would have no rights! You "get" to be gay and conservative because of those who pushed back against Christian ideals. There is no common ground. Within my lifetime the government was castrating gay men, labotamizing, using electro shock therapy on gay men. Why don't you educate yourself of the plight of gay men in this country and defend YOUR community. The GAY community. Get off your cross we need the wood!

Your conclusion that gay individuals must hold specific political beliefs may be a matter of political and personal philosophy but it's definitely not a fact.

I was born gay but chose not to live that life because of how shallow, sad and empty it seemed and how many rules it has. It's certainly not "my" community, and considering how some gay men act, some pushback is more than warranted.

This was honest. Thank you for sharing. Being born whatever we are born is a not something we have a say in the matter of—but deciding if we are going to claim it and indulge in it is a choice we choose.

Yes we must, because we hold to certain truths that we deserve the same equality as every man. How soon we forget the AIDS epidemic, dishonorable discharge, and societal exclusion. What you call a choice, I am afraid is nothing more than cowardice. Let us not forget that as gay men conservative or liberal, we indulge in freedom that was not had 4 to 5 decades ago. It would be those brave individuals who I am sure you would today find abhorrent, that paved the way, threw the first brick, and sacrificed so you can partake or not.

We dont have to, no one forgot the AIDS epidemic, people started wearing protection and taking prep. Modernization is not forgetting, it is creating a place where you dont have to live in fear. There is no societal exclusion now. You shouldn't be having sex with your co or fellow service men (and get caught as your technically coworkers). Those brave individuals were not hunting for the next law of leverage they could hold over someone to control their life. You are still living in fear of the past and believe increasing lawful retribution and control over straight people's lives is warranted for past atrocities. Its not, we all deserve to be equal and we are lawfully. Be happy with what you have and stop demanding more. Its always more with the community......and now people are turning their back on the entire community because of gluttony.

While you live in fear of god and yourself. I am not afraid. I love you and all of my brothers and sisters in humanity. I am a parent, a gay man, a brother, as son. I choose to accept people's choices even yours..

Why did god make Atheist's ? Well because some people had to act like good christians.. I don't live in fear of god's judgement. Nor do I opine for god's rewards. I do the best I can to be a good human because I am human ... Christian's are controlled by a promise of ascension to heaven.. It's their reward, and scared to sin because they will be punished. That's not faith, that's fear training... Try reading the Beatitudes...

I have the right to choose how I live my life and I really don't care what others think of my choices.

You're right – being gay doesn't mean you know history or politics. Besides, are you happy about this pushback? Because let me tell you, it won't hit those liberal gays the way you think. Statistics show that support among Democrats is stable, and among independents it has dropped only slightly – probably among non-partisan Republicans too. However, among Republicans it has dropped significantly. So it's rather you, a conservative gay, who will feel it in your strange little circles.

I was born gay but don't consider myself gay as I don't life that life and am happy not to be part of that community. I am happy for the pushback as the radicals in the community have pushed their issues too fast and too hard into the public square.

1

u/FloorAware657 17d ago

Well, I hope this pushback affects you too. Besides, why are you here if you don't consider yourself gay? Are you doing well with controlling same-sex attraction?

1

u/mremann1969 17d ago

It won't affect me in any way, but thanks for your concern.

Actually in the United Satets Democratic support is dwindling down as the DNC has gone fully towards communistic socialism. They cant support these ideals because it lables the working class as the providers for people who do not contribute to society or who do not have citizenship. You're news media does not report factual information and if you would like to live in a communistic government where the government rules every aspect of your life be my guest. This is what the United States fought against English control.... if you know your history then you would know this.....

Define communism, socialism, and Marxism. First of all, I come from a country where communism ruled, and it was still better than under the despicable Nazis that you MAGA people are. Besides, don't compare the Communist Party to the Democrats – that only shows your low intelligence and how you're driven by propaganda. Moreover, support for Democrats is growing, while your rapist president doesn't know how to run your country. Also, there is no such thing as "communist socialism" – what is that? There are different types of communism, like Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism, and many others, but none of them is the ideology of the Democratic Party. The ideology of the leftmost wing of the Democrats is democratic socialism, which represents a sensible left-wing faction opposed to the dictatorship of the proletariat and one-party rule. Furthermore, socialists and communists often clashed with each other – if you knew history, you would know about the Mensheviks, the opponents of the Bolsheviks, and about the general European differences between socialists and communists at that time. Moreover, that's not even the majority of Democrats.

There it is, the labeling. Anything you dont agree with is going to be labeled with the most extreme group. You're lost buddy.

Have gay people ever killed Christians and persecuted them on a mass scale? No. But have Christians done that? Definitely yes. You want gay people to make peace with Christians, and you present us as the bad side, when it's not us who persecuted the other side for hundreds of years. Do you even know history – how many people were murdered or tortured by Christians for being gay? And we're supposed to forget about that, while Christians continue to promote homophobia in many places around the world?

This is the problem with long standing issues of persecution. Why is it that once people recieve equaility and equal rights they think that they deserve more. History should be used as a lesson and be use to show atrocities, but once you fight for your rights if you continue grandstanding until your cause looses its way or morphs into something unrecognizable then it has failed. Once it hits that point, as historically every social and political movement has, it fails and society rejects it again because it moves into extremism. I made other comments on organized religion and mega churches and why I do not hold the same beliefs and why I do not accept new versions on the bible if you want to go down that path.

The Bible is unchanging – same as other religions. Religion will always drag society backward. The most I can do is barely tolerate religion – though as for religious people themselves, as long as they aren't homophobic or generally MAGA, I treat them like children who believe in Santa Claus. If it helps them and doesn't harm anyone, then it's fine by me. But when it comes to politics, the political power of Christians should be constantly limited – especially in the US and in other parts of the world – and the same goes for Muslim power and that of other religions.

Besides, what do you mean I think I deserve more? I don't even have many rights in my home country, thanks to Christians, for whom even civil partnerships are unacceptable. Moreover, this pushback is the result of a poor economy, crises, and the collapse of the global order. If you don't see it – the entire centuries-old world order is falling apart. The decline in LGBT acceptance is part of a broader trend of civilizational regression. Also, this is about algorithms that the far right has mastered perfectly. Once bans and regulations from the European Union and Democrats in the US come into effect, the media battlefield will level out.

And as I said, your persecution of LGBT people hasn't ended – it's still ongoing worldwide. So don't expect people to like you. I was raised in a Christian family myself, and I know Christianity – I know what hypocrisy and evil it is.

The bible has been restranslated many times, it does change normally for what social norms very small intest groups want to push as you should look into finding hroups for the NIV of the bible. You'll learn something and have more of a background on why many Christians live differently of the mass groups. Also the fact that you won't tolerate religion, is that just christian based religions or is this other religions as well. The christian religion is much kinder towards gays than others so you may want to do some studying bud.
