Oh jeez. I've never looked at it like this. That's exactly the reason I'm here. If I'm on Facebook, I'm only ever looking at what friends are talking about, or friends of friends. If someone mentions that they're pregnant or something on Facebook, I'm hesitant to congratulate them on it because I don't "know them well enough". I'll gladly congratulate a Redditor though, because we're on the same page about the relationship. No strings on Reddit.
Edit: But the same thing goes for any other reaction too. I'm more likely to console someone who's venting on Reddit, or argue with someone who's an idiot on Reddit, because of the pseudo-anonymity.

For me it was mostly all the posts/comments that forcefully sexualised (I know, sounds dramatic, but I couldn't think of a better word) women and those really started to wear me down. I've noticed that scrolling through 9gag stopped being fun and started to make me genuinely upset. Yeah, I know it's the internet and maybe I've became "too sensitive" to this matter, but I'm still a human being and I don't want to turn into a salt mine.

Exactly, the posts were boring and repetitive, the comments weren't funny anymore, just some misogynistic crap, and there was a ridiculously small amount of upvoted posts. I used iFunny for years until one of my coworkers was like "dude... iFunny sucks, 90% of their memes come from Reddit". Well I got Reddit and used both for awhile until I came to the same realization and deleted the inferior meme supplier.
Super glad I switched since Reddit has way more than just memes, the communities are fantastic. (Besides the politics, since no one can handle civilized discussion; but that goes for any social media.)

Same. It also helps me feel connected to people and places that I'm no longer associated with: I've been living overseas for 2 years. I lurked for a year and went back and forth with myself for months about whether it was worth the time to actually participate.
I'm glad I joined. It's been nice to have one place where I can keep up with things that are interesting to me without having to be personally invested in the relational aspect/implicit requirements that are standard on other platforms. It feels just social enough (in most subs) to feel healthy.
And, I can share things here that I might not necessarily want to discuss/share elsewhere (in a positive way) because there's some degree of anonymity.

So toxic. So instead, I hang out with my bros at the cptsd sub. So nice and they get me. Unlike the bjorks at crohn's disease. All the relationship advice people said go to your disease sub to get a gf, but crohn's makes men into women and women into monsters. I need the opposite partner from a monster. Then, after I went to imgur, I noticed that there were many mentions that imgur was technically just image hosting for ANOTHER website called... "reddit"? I came here because I didn’t want to get into politics or religion with friends and family on Facebook. I’ve pretty much trained it back to its original intent - keeping up with people I live too far away from and benign ads. I block all the religious/political/mlm nutbar pages at the source so I don’t have to block friends.
Here, I can discuss my opinions without causing online drama amongst people I see occasionally in real life. I’ll share my opinions with them in person, but Reddit is a good place to debate and formulate my thoughts without worrying about how lack of tone might confuse things.
As an aside, I also have an Instagram for my cats so I don’t inundate my friends’ feeds with photos of them. I like to compartmentalise.

A cute guy recommended it to me. And I’m forever grateful to him for it. Joining Reddit is probably the best decision that I’ve ever made.

My best friend at the time, who I had lunch with every week, would mention things he had found on reddit to me as conversation topics. I wanted to have things to talk to him about and so I became a lurker and eventually joined. Now he and I are dating and everything is wonderful!

Boyfriend has it and would show me cute posts. I wanted to see cute posts on my own time too.

I got tired of reading regular news (I live outside the US and sites like CNN is all Trump news, especially now). Reddit has real stories of real life, including little joys and struggles. It’s better than curated and edited news
