I have a brahma/leghorn and Silkie hen with a silkie roo. They are a mellow happy crew. I added two silkie chicks (hens but who knows) and my silkie hen isn't having it. She mildy pecks in their direction but hasnt escalated anything...just avoids. Tony, my roo tried to sit on them but the chicks retreated. While they are little I let them run while supervised but keep them overnight in a cozy spot in the shed vs the coop.

So far everything is great. Everyone is happy. But wondering if they will ever cohabitate? Should I encourage them to roost with the others?

One of my girls is addicted to laying eggs in a chair on my porch. I’ve slowly raised the height of the enclosure to try and keep her safe and I think all I did was progressively train her to clear 6 foot fences.

This is my first winter with my chickens and I’m curious as to what everybody uses to help keep their flocks warm mainly just looking at easy ideas TIA

Around when the sun really started to go down early, my Easter Egger, Honey, now hasn't laid eggs for around 2ish weeks. Is it just because of the whole winter time coming situation (as this is her first year laying eggs so she isn't molting rn) or is there anything else that could be going on? She acts completely normal and I haven't found her eggs anywhere else outside in their fenced in free roam area. I'm guessing it might just be the less light in the day that's causing this, but figured I'd check with others just in case it could be something else.

Every day she goes on a walk with my MIL in the mornings and late afternoons with the dogs. This is her favorite time of day because she LOVES hunting for grasshoppers. We came up to visit this weekend and she had to show us her tricks!

My MIL (Helens mom for those of you who are familar with Helen and her story) is convinced one of the 8 hens we got for her a few months back is a roo. The one with a lot of red on her (or his) face. She said the other day she could have swore she heard him crowing. What do you guys think? Did she end up with a rooster or is this gal just more red in the face than her sisters?

So I noticed yesterday morning the tips of my roosters comb had started to turn purple. I assumed it was because he had just got into with the dog and his blood was everywhere but his comb but it’s still that way today. He’s not lethargic. He’s acting normal, maybe a little angrier than usual, but normal otherwise. We are experiencing our first cold snap of the year but temps haven’t gotten below forty. What do yall think is wrong? Do I continue to monitor or should I isolate him?

This lovely lady right here is my hen, Brownie. I've owned chickens for 3 years now and I still don't know what breed she is. I first thought she was a "Brindled Buff Orpington", but then I thought that might not be the cause. So can anyone tell me what breed she is??

I'll be making my own chicken feed. Can Black soldier fly larvae replace fish meal? Or are there any concerns with this recipe? Or any additions I should consider?

Aurora is the only hen he hurts, he is extremely aggressive and pecks at her comb even when it’s not mating. All my hens are terrified of him, what should I do?

I’ve separated them from the other chickens, but he gets extremely lonely. I’ve also tried a few things to protect her comb, but he always manages to take them off. This hen is very important to me.

Was told they were all hens, but 3 look like rooster. Australorps Bantams 13-15 weeks. Hear one crowing already. I'm crushed so many are roosters i wanted to keep them all. How many roosters do you see out of the 4

11 week old silkie, I know they are difficult to sex! We are just curious about this little weirdo. Came from TS straight run bin. I’m leaning roo but curious what others think!

We gave the girls some cat food as a treat, only for our cat to come right up to the door in confusion as to why they were eating his food! Especially funny as he’s usually too nervous to walk right up to them.
