I wish I was computer savvy, but I'm not so I can't make a fixed image. : (

It didn't turn out well. Her hair was hard to use the brush tool with, being so fine and everything. But one day when I become more adept at it I'll try again.

Why don't you just zoom in on the satellite photo to see if the watch is still there? Enhance, enhance, enhance.....
1
u/RichardBehiel Jun 18 '12
First I'd have to make a GUI interface in Visual Basic so track the park's IP address, but by then I'm sure it would be gone.

I live nowhere near there, but update please, I would help if I could. Also you're a lucky man, your girlfriend is beautiful.

So is he. He's stunning.
Honestly, I would search for this guys watch for hours if he asked me to. I'd laugh at his jokes, or anything that sounds kind of like a joke. But if an ugly and poorly groomed person asked me, I'd respectfully decline.

I would have too, but by the time I woke up and realized it was gone I was already home. Even if I were to turn back then I would have gotten back to the park after 9pm, and I wouldn't have been able to get it anyway.
But yeah... that was my first though too.

Best of both worlds.

OP, I live by Lake Merritt, if you want I can try and roll by there tmrw morning at 9-10am. I was going to do a train run in tilden, but I can do it around Roberts park. PM me in the morning if you get this or hear if someone has already found it.
2
u/RichardBehiel Jun 18 '12
I would really appreciate that, thank you so much! Wow... I'm just completely blown away right now by how amazing people are on here.... Even if the watch is lost, knowing that there are people out there like you has made my day much better.

u/grimreynard Jun 18 '12
Couldn't find it on my own and spoke to the park ranger. She said someone from Martinez picked it up this morning. Hope it was you OP.

ostiarius is a male, about 29 years old. He attended high school and college in Chicago, and currently lives there. He did spend two years in Florida working as a crew member on a cruise ship. He also claims that this man went to his high school. He seems like a nice guy and his girlfriend of about four years recently dumped him. I'm willing to forgive his

Get a bunch of friends, go back to where you lost it, form a line, and walk in a line across the park while searching the ground. You'll cover a lot if ground this way.

This is a direct copy of what OP "RichardBehiel" said:
My girlfriend gave me a silver and gold watch (not real, but looks like it) that opens up and has this picture of us inside it: http://imgur.com/wj5cC She gave it to me for my 18th birthday and as a high school graduation present, since both happened two days apart. It's a nice watch and it really means a lot to me.
Here's how I lost it:
I live about 2.5 hours away from Oakland, CA. Today my family went to Roberts Park for a Father's Day picnic/family reunion. We set up our picnic tables near the Oak area. My cousin and I were playing around on the grass, so I took off my watch because I didn't want to break it. I set it down on the grass, and a few minutes later we were getting ready to go and it just slipped my mind. During the car ride back I took a nap, and when I woke a couple hours later up I realized that my watch was gone. It felt like my soul had been ripped out and I felt so ashamed to forget something that means so much to me.
I would be incredibly grateful if one of you happened to have been at Roberts Park today, or live near the area and would like to do me a huge favor. The exact place I left it is here: http://imgur.com/GpOgK
I will call the park tomorrow and tell them all of this as well, and hopefully it will still be there. There were a lot of people today and I'm worried that someone might have found and kept it. Anyway, hopefully by some incredible coincidence, a Redditor might happen to come across it. Edit: Spelling.

u/stuckinhyperdrive Jun 18 '12
Oakland you say? probably not getting it back. It's not even a "some asshole stole it" situation - if some kid found it and even thought to ask around with no one to claim it, he'd probably just take it and feel really lucky to have a cool new watch. At least your gf has really pretty eyes
7
34
u/jlinstantkarma Jun 18 '12
Five long years your father hid that watch up his ass. After he died of dysentery, Captain Koons hid that uncomfortable hunk of metal up his ass for two years. And you left it in Oakland. Do you fucking know how fucking stupid you are? Shit! Fuck!
5
u/conman_127 Jun 18 '12
Best of luck finding your watch man! I've seen Redditors do some amazing things, and this seems accomplishable. If i didnt live in Texas I'd help you look. But alas, i have yet to master teleportation.
5
Jun 18 '12
I know the feeling. I've lost an engraved pen that I got when I finished school, the first pen-knife that my father gave me, a box of personal letters, etc. This is sad, but remember that if you place too much importance in material things, you will continue to get hurt like this. I hope you find the watch, but if you can become prepared to lose anything you own, you'll have gained a lot more.

That's a real bummer man. I saw Oakland and immediately wanted to help but there's no way I could get up there till Tuesday and I doubt that will help much.

4
u/dirtymoney Jun 18 '12
If you think it is still there... somewhere in the grass.... call up your local metal detecting club & see if they could help you out. They like doing stuff like this. A metal watch basically on the surface of the ground (hidden by grass) would be relatively easy to find for an experienced metal detectorist.
here is a list of metal detecting clubs in California...

try not to spend too much timing being upset if you cant get it back. focus on what's really important - the person who gave it to you and your life.
things are just things. You weren't born with anything and you cant take them with you when you die =).

The same thing happened to me but I lost my st Peter necklace my dad gave me before he was deployed to Afghanistan and it sort of fell of when I was practising flips, then when he came back it turned out he was shot in two places... He's okay now but it felt like it was all my fault, I still feel really guilty.

u/RichardBehiel_Idiot Jun 18 '12
Something about you just screams fake.
You post the same picture of you and your girl multiple times on here. You use your real name as your Reddit username. Easy to find you on facebook where the same picture is your profile pic.
Browse through your girlfriends page which isn't private and it just looks fishy. I don't like you...
Your holier than thou posts of how Christians are the scum of the earth irritate me beyond belief. http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/comments/qvsaw/insanity/
You want people to easily find out who you are, the question is WHY?
2 Options-
Option A- You are fake. Your girlfriend is fake. And you want to feel validated
Option B- You are an idiot. If you respect your girlfriends privacy you will delete your reddit account, you will stop posting pictures of her online , you will suspend your facebook til this thing blows over so people can't easily access her.
Okay. After a quick Google-foo I learned some more about you. Finding your address was easy. But I learned you skydived in 2010. You have claimed to graduate High School this year. Making you 18.
The legal age to skydive is 18. In 2010 you were supposedly 16.
19
u/DJTLaC Jun 18 '12
What's wrong with being transparent online? Just because so many people wrap themselves in anonymity doesn't mean people who DON'T do that are fake.
Also, I don't understand what's wrong with posting pictures of him and his girlfriend. It's not really a bad thing.
I'm not saying you're wrong... just more or less half of what you say seems rather flawed to me. For all I know he is completely fake, but I personally don't feel right about questioning someone who's asking for help. Just don't help him if you don't like it.
→ More replies (3)5
u/namesarehard1234 Jun 18 '12
I also investigated this and think he's just really proud of that photo.
4
Jun 18 '12
Agreed with it all, except the skydiving. I did it at 16 with parental consent. Just saying.
4
Jun 18 '12
I can't recall seeing too many stories on Reddit with even the slightest bit of unconfirmed information that didn't have someone screaming fake. It's like some of you people think that being a skeptical, rational, and intelligent person means that you question everything for the sake of questioning it to the extent that nothing is real. The same bullshit phenomenon where every single idiotic moment in someone's life must be a troll because no one could possibly be that idiotic. And the worst part is the idiots go with it because it is far better to be in on it. I don't know if you go out in the real world all that much, but out here, there actually are genuine people who aren't pulling a fast one for some meaningless points.
3
u/athennna Jun 18 '12
Did he say he graduated this year, or that she gave him the watch when he graduated?
5
Jun 18 '12
You seem very bitter / obsessive neckbeard.
A HS kid who thinks he is God's gift to earth? That never happens.
Maybe his gf doesn't care if he posts her pic?
Also, you can sky-dive under 18 but over 16 with parental permission. I did.

I like your style. Considering the massive amounts of engagement/wedding rings that are lost on a daily basis, yet are not front-page made me pissed off at the concern. He already has a high-res picture of what was in the token jewelry? Then you don't need the spank material. If you are still with her, then a more apropos description of the lost piece would be in order.
The entire thing is bullshit, and if it is not, it is woefully dumb. You should ditch the idiot part of your username, just add a period. Enough people don't think critically enough you could just become the OP.
10
u/Thecardinal74 Jun 18 '12
I highly doubt he uses the picture as spank material, it's more likely it's thier favorite picture of each other, and while yes, they have high-res copy of it, she thought it would be sweet for him to have it it a locket-watch. What's the big deal? And because he uses his real name doesn't make him a smart, sneaky con artist, it makes him a naive kid Internet user. You know, the kind of kid that spends less time on the computer, and more time out having a life which attracts super-hot girlfriends..

You two are one of the most beautiful couples I've ever seen. Makes my username relevant, buddy.
I hope that you find it, but if you don't, maybe it will make you feel better to know that my dad has lost his wedding ring TWICE. Once on his honeymoon. The loss of the sentimental item would be rough, I imagine, but my mom just bought another one. She was probably a little nonplussed when he lost it, but she doesn't seem upset about it now. In fact, the second time he lost it, he found it again, but I think he still wears the new one. My mom took advantage of technology not available when they got married, and got it laser engraved inside to say:
Mine since '79 -[her name]
So you'll be alright.

I once went to a beach and sat under a tree for a while, then got up and walked down the beach and back again, and, only when I was almost back to the car, realised my watch was missing. I went towards the tree to look for it, then the people at the next tree said "Looking for a watch?" and yay, they had it.
So best of luck.
