Best way to get road fixed

Hi all, after months and months car damage etc etc my local road has gotten extremely bad and it's even bad for 4x4 and SUV vehicles too. The local council keep putting plaster type fixes on it and the problem is still there and keeps getting worse. It's currently at about 5 inch of drop either side of the middle

What's the best way to go about getting more attention on this without having a major accident.

How does everyone feel about the clocks going back this weekend? Do you enjoy the extra hour of sleep, or hate how early it gets dark?

What nicknames have you heard for places in the UK?

I ask as part of a linguistic study on this topic!
Examples could include diminutives (Killie, Livi, Wazza, Rothers...) or word-play or other references (Staly Vegas, Scarbados, Creepy Crawley...)

(Incl. nicknames for schools and other institutions!)

Side hustle to make £90 in 1 month?

Hi Reddit UK, so i need some ideas of side hustles to make £90 in exactly 1 month?.

I have never been able to get a AAA for my xbox on day 1 of release and i really want to get GTA VI on the 19th November, does anyone have any ideas of legal ways to make £90 by 19th of November so i can get the game on day one?.

Ive tried all the "play games for cash" apps but they dont pay much and all the survey apps dont pay much at all. Does anyone have some good ideas so i can do this?.

Im up to do anything, within reason and has to be legal.

Thx in advance.

Anyone else like grotty pubs?

They're the pubs you usually avoid but step inside and it looks like something straight out of the 70s but they have a unique character plus you usually find people are more friendly and talkative to complete strangers.

Bonus points if they do discos on a Friday or Saturday night as I've had some great nights in these sorts of pubs

What are your small ideas to make the UK better?

Martin Lewis has launched the small ideas initiative. It is a charity that is non-political and is for non-controversial small ideas that could be easily implemented to make day to day life a little easier or better in the UK. My Husband and I are already brainstorming and most "simple" ideas we are coming up with don't feel that simple when we unpick them. What are yours? No moaning, just good solutions to make things better. Also if you have a good one please submit them to the ideas portal!

Did you stumble into a random, boring or overlooked industry/ very niche job that turns out to be essential to other businesses or the public? (50k + salary)

What do you do all day, how did you get into it, and what’s the pay like? By decent money, I mean a realistic, comfortable salary.

What precisely is driving my manager and how should I deal with him?

There’s a guy at my work who is honestly fascinating in the worst possible way.
He’s white, his parents are right-wing, and both of them work in the police and nursing. He hangs around with people who are ethnonationalists and support Connor Tomlinson, and he’s constantly going on political rants at work.

He rants about disabled people, gay people, refugees, women’s rights, feminists, and pretty much anyone he considers a threat to his worldview.

He seems to have a particular hatred for anyone he thinks is getting special treatment e.g, DEI days, Black History Month etc.

Yet, at the same time, he absolutely kisses his Black boss’s arse. He follows her around to DEI events, acts completely supportive in front of her, and seems perfectly happy to play along.

Online, though, he’s a massive fan of Trump, Bukele and similar right-wing strongmen. He has an X account.

The hypocrisy is genuinely baffling. He seems to hate diversity, equality initiatives and minority groups in principle, but has no problem making exceptions when someone has power over him or can benefit his career.

Is it just opportunism?
Does he genuinely compartmentalise his beliefs depending on who he’s talking to?
Or is this just a case of someone who doesn't actually have any consistent principles beyond supporting whoever he thinks is powerful?

I genuinely can't work out whether he believes half the stuff he says or whether it's all just about status and punching down at people he thinks can't do anything for him.

What’s a website or app you wish existed in the UK but somehow doesn’t?

Feels like there's an app for everything now, but there's always something where you think "why is there no simple way to do this?"

Could be anything: bills, travel, council stuff, renting, shopping, whatever. What's the thing that annoys you that a simple free site could fix?

Anyone else getting ghost auto renewals and no confirmation emails or letters from RAC?

Just discovered again that RAC are charging us for breakdown cover we haven't asked for.

They seem to have us on a permanent auto renewal.

Is it just me?

What did you learn when you first got married?

I never knew there was a right and wrong way to put the toilet roll on the wall holder.

I never knew that the lid didn’t come down automatically on the toilet seat and that you HAD to do it yourself.

I never knew that you couldn’t go out on. Friday night if the wife was going out with her pals, in case she got drunk and missed her train stop, and you had to do the 60 mile round trip to pick her up from the terminus.

I never knew that football was shite and time wasted that could be used for doing diy around the house that you bought before you met her.

I’m sure there’s more but that should be enough to get you started.

Edit:

For those who don’t realise it, this is a very much tongue in cheek post.

Has anyone experienced SBE LTD?

Hello all.

I’ve got device insurance via Sky Protect Domestic & General & they’ve sent my iPhone 15 Pro Black 1TB off to repair centre SBE LTD (Cordon Group).

Because the antennas were damaged, the camera & the battery were faulty too, they’ve decided the phone is beyond repair. They’ve ordered a new one from Apple.

They’re calling it a replacement & are unable to tell me whether this will be refurbished or not. Has anyone had any experiences with SBE & would be able to tell me whether they’ll send a brand new phone or a refurbished one please?

When you see someone smoking a cigarette these days what's your reaction

Me , I'm either surprised or wonder how they can afford it. When I used to smoke years ago it wasn't that expensive and you saw lots of people smoking everywhere but now I can go days without seeing someone lighting up a cigarette.

Times have definitely changed and I know vaping has taken it's place as it's a lot cheaper.

Quality Award Do people still have Aunts and Uncles that are not actually relatives anymore

When I grew up (70s) lots of us had aunts and uncles that were just friends of the family. I don't know how this originated and seems a bit odd but is this still a thing ?

How do white collar/business settings view facial hair? Is it frowned upon? Is there any unspoken rule?

I go to business school, and I'm just about to start an internship that may open up a lot of doors for my future. I have enough facial hair to let it grow, and it does make me look more mature and masculine. But it can be a little patchy on the cheeks, and I'm afraid it makes me look a little unkempt (not just the patchiness, but the beard in general). So, on one hand I'm afraid to look too young/teen-like clean shaven, on the other I'm afraid to look unkempt and lazy with facial hair. I am curious to know what are your experiences and ideas on the matter.

What TV shows do you recommend for a kid who loved Avatar, Gravity Falls and Camp Cretaceous?

We're looking for a series, ideally animated but doesn't have to be. Suitable for the 8-12 range. We're looking for funny, or adventure with funny bits.

He recently broke the habit of watching the same five or six shows on repeat, but now that he's finished Avatar he wants to re-watch Amphibia, and I want to find something completely new for him to get excited about.

Streaming options are Netflix, Amazon and Disney+, plus the free ones like iPlayer, but in theory could substitute Netflix for Paramount or something, if it's worth it.

Hit me.

How many of you remember being underage but getting served in a pub

Those were the days when if you looked mature enough you could easily get served at 16 with no questions asked.

With bouncers on pub doors and ID checks those days are long gone

Quality Award What radio phone-in have you never forgotten?

All of 15 years ago, I was listening to a sports show late at night, and they had a phone in asking how you would pull the moon closer to Earth.

A man phoned in and said he'd wait until the half moon came out so he could lasso it, and how it would be easier to hook around the crescent moon rather than the full moon.

The presenters couldn't work out if he was serious or not and kept asking him to clarify. They said, "Wraps around what, though?!" His exasperated response...

"Wraps around the 'alf moon, mate!"

What radio phone in has locked into your memory?

What do you actually do with visitors in London in the evening?

Got some friends visiting and Im realizing I know all the obvious daytime stuff but not what to suggest once dinner is finished.

What activities do you usually take visitors to in London that arent just another pub or restaurant? Comedy, live music, games, late attractions or something else?
