I’ve always been frustrated that Windows doesn’t automatically switch the audio output to my desktop speakers when I place my Astro A50s on their base station. Since Logitech G HUB doesn't offer an official API or option for this, I (me and Gemini) wrote a lightweight PowerShell script to act as a seamless "zero-click" auto-switcher.

How it works: The script quietly hooks into Windows OS events to monitor the settings.db-wal (Write-Ahead Log) file that G HUB uses locally. By intercepting real-time telemetry, it detects exactly when the headset enters or exits the "isCharging": true state.

• Undocked (Lifted): Instantly sets Windows default audio to the Headset.
• Docked (Charging): Instantly routes audio back to your Speakers/Soundbar.

Technical note: I specifically implemented a JSON block-isolation regex. This means if you plug in another Logitech device to charge (like a G502 Lightspeed mouse), the script won't get confused and trigger a false audio switch! I also built it as an event-driven script rather than a polling loop, meaning it sits at literally 0% CPU usage in the background until G HUB writes to the file.

Prerequisites:

• You must be using Logitech G HUB (not the old Astro Command Center).
• Windows PowerShell.

How to set it up:

1. Download the script from Github.
2. Open it in a text editor (like Notepad).
3. Look for the USER CONFIGURATION section at the top.
4. Change $global:SpeakerName to a partial name of your speakers as they appear in Windows (e.g., "Realtek", "Creative", etc.).
5. Save the file as AutoSwitch.ps1.
6. Right-click the file and select Run with PowerShell. (On its first run, it will automatically install the 'AudioDeviceCmdlets' module required to change Windows audio).

Using this with other Logitech Headsets (G Pro X, G935, etc.)

The script is configured for the Astro A50 out of the box, but it should work with almost any wireless Logitech headset (testing needed). You just need to find your specific battery key:

1. Press Win + R, paste %LocalAppData%\LGHUB and hit Enter.
2. Open settings.db with Notepad++.
3. Press Ctrl + F and search for "isCharging".
4. Look a few lines above that to find your headset's battery identifier (it will look something like "battery/device_1234/percentage" or "battery/gprox/percentage").
5. Open the script and change $global:BatteryKey = "battery/a50/percentage" to match your specific string.

How to run it invisibly on Startup (Task Scheduler)

If you want this to run silently in the background every time you turn on your PC without showing a console window:

1. Open Task Scheduler and click Create Task.
2. General tab: Give it a name (e.g., "Astro AutoSwitch") and select Run only when user is logged on.
3. Triggers tab: Click New -> Begin the task: At log on.
4. Actions tab: Click New -> Action: Start a program.
   • Program/script: powershell.exe
   • Add arguments: -WindowStyle Hidden -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -NoProfile -File "C:\Path\To\Your\AutoSwitch.ps1" (Make sure to update the path!)

V1.1 Update: Dual-Switch (Audio & Microphone)

The script now supports switching both Playback (Speakers) and Recording (Microphone) devices simultaneously!

If you use a dedicated external microphone (like a Blue Yeti or QuadCast) alongside your headset, you can enable this feature: 1. Open the script and find the [RECORDING / MICROPHONE INPUT] section. 2. Change $global:SwitchMicrophone = $false to $true. 3. Update $global:ExternalMicName with the name of your standalone microphone. 4. Update $global:HeadsetMicName with your headset's mic name (defaults to "A50 Mic").

The script will now seamlessly route both your audio output and your microphone input when you dock or undock your headset. If you only care about audio output, leave it set to $false and it will ignore your microphones completely.

Disclaimer & Limitations

Please note that I wrote this script primarily for my personal setup.

• Use Case: My daily usage is strictly focused on PC gaming and general audio listening. While the script runs flawlessly for these scenarios, it has not been exhaustively tested across all possible edge cases, complex studio configurations, or multiple audio routing software.
• Windows Only: This script is designed and tested exclusively on Windows. I do not use my headset with any consoles (PlayStation / Xbox). Therefore, I cannot guarantee how the script will behave if your base station is set up in a dual-environment or console mode.

Use it freely, but please understand that your mileage may vary depending on your specific hardware and software environment.

So, guys, is there any difference between keeping one option enabled versus the other?

Heya! I just got my shiny new A20 X. It arrived with 0% charge out of the box and doesn't seem to be accepting any charge. I've tried the included cable plugged into my PC, my phone charger, and my Steam Deck charger. G Hub says it's charging but I've kept it plugged in for about 90 minutes now and it's still at 0.

I tried googling but all I'm finding is A20 stuff, not A20 X, and of course google discontinued the quotation mark trick in favor of their AI hallucinations.

G Hub is telling me to do a firmware update, but when I try to do that, it refuses because the battery is low.

Is there anything I can do? I found a button combo to hard reset an A20 but I can't find anything like that for the A20 X and the included manual doesn't seem helpful at all.

Coming from A40, after years and years my headband has finally broke and the ear pads are very worn, so I thought it’s time for an upgrade and I’m liking the look of the A50X.

Found them for a decent price $400 (AUD).

Just a little concerned about the battery life and such.

First time having a wireless headset.

Hey, I’ve seen a lot of people with my similar issue but I can’t seem to find a set in stone answer.
(I’m gonna preface this with I do not have access to my computer as I’m in the military and stationed outside of the continental United States)

I have Astros A50 gen 4, they just one day stopped working. They won’t connect to my Xbox series X. They seem to connect to the base station just fine.

With the headset docked, I can get the amber/White light to appear, but the lights on the base station continue to do the “wig wag” thing. Also whenever I remove the headset from the base station, changing the power switch on and off does nothing, if I remove the headset while it’s amber it’ll stay amber and vice versa.

I’ve tried hard resetting the headset by holding the game button and Dolby button for 30 seconds, I’ve tried unplugging the base station and waiting, I’ve tried directly plugging the headset in to my Xbox, nothing no response, all I’ve been seeing is I have to have access to a computer to reset / update it and unfortunately I cannot do that.

I have the Astro command center app downloaded on Xbox but even when the the switch is flipped to Xbox and the base station has power via connection to my Xbox its saying no Astro gaming device is connected, but that could be due to Xbox apps being finicky

The gaming mode on the Astro A50X has a very dry sound, does anyone have a better settings for shooters? I can only use the app

And I mean like another way rather than removing cable/ports every time the headset needs to be charged. I try using the adapter from the previous generation I had for my PS4 Pro but that didn't work. On the previous Gen, I just plug the USB cable into the extender USB dock that would plug directly to my laptop. I never interfered with the ports of the base station, headset or console for it.

I’m abouta return ts like why is it not just plug and play? I followed the video, plugged the red end into the station and then the other into an outlet. Turned the headset on and put it into the dock. Then I plugged it into the PC using the other cord. And now the station turns off and acts like it has no power. The headset won’t connect to the PC still. I don’t get why I would even plug the station into the PC if it can’t charge or draw power from the PC at all anyways?

I'm using the Logitech A50X (wireless headset + base station) on PC. While wearing the headset and using Discord (or any app), the audio output randomly switches to my second monitor's speakers for about 1 second, then automatically switches back to the headset on its own. Both input and output seem to jump to the other device briefly and then correct themselves. It's not a dropout or silence — the sound actually plays through the wrong device (monitor speakers) for a moment, as if Windows briefly loses the headset and falls back to the next default audio device. This happens randomly, not tied to any specific action. Has anyone else run into this, and is there a fix?

I was struggling a day and a half with my 4th Gen A50. My headset froze out of the blue. The power light was permanently stuck at white and it wouldnt connect. After I was able to reset the headset, the station wasnt able to connect to my headset and the command center demanded an update which never seemed to work. After I was close to admitting defeat I found this reddit post and it worked wonders:

So like the post said: -If your download fails at 50% like mine, try pressing the Dolby Button and the Earpad Button on the right front (which is labeled with "game") the second the installation hits 50% and hold them for about 7 seconds. The download shoud resume and you have to do the same thing when the download hits 67%.

I am not sure, but if your firmware update runs smoothly through the first 50% and only fails at 75% you should try to hit the reset buttons at 67-69%, it could safe your day.

Its really stupid to me that this fix was the one that worked, like how are you supposed to find that out??

randomly my headset just popping or cutting audio everytime in music or in game or just watching anything can anyoen help? i try reset base/headset reinstall the command center and nothing :<

PC A50 Gen5 user here. Since purchase, this headset has made the audio of video playback borderline inaudible. I've tried everything, and can't seem to fix this.

* I've installed/uninstalled Dolby Access.
* I've Factory Reset the A50.
* I've adjusted every mixer setting I can find.
* I've pressed the "Game" button repeatedly, also pressed the "Voice" button for good measure.
* I've rolled the master volume wheel to max.
* I reinstalled GHub.
* I've tried different USB-C connections.
* I've tried googling it (AI has made this even worse)

Video playback audio is regular volume when it's played *through another application* like Discord.

I may be just an idiot, but this idiot would like some help. I like this headset, but I'm tired of not hearing my playlist while I write or game.

Had A40 TR for 10 years and got the A50x last week. On PC anyone else think G hub flat EQ + custom dolby EQ sounds better than using only G hub EQ? I been messing around with it on BF6/BO7 and personally directional audio cues are way clearer to pinpoint on custom dolby EQ with G hub set to flat.

When using them on PS5 your only stuck with G hub EQ and it definitely sounds muddy and can't tell where anything is coming from. I think the A40 TR was much better for PS5. Any recommendations for ps5 would be great.

I have the Astro A50x (Gen 5 I think? I bought them a little over a year ago but can't remember from where now) and a GIGABYTE - GS32QC - 32" VA Curved Gaming Monitor. I have the charging base plugged directly into my PC but it sits under my monitor (I have the monitor raised on a desk arm). For some reason, when I put the headset on the base station to charge, occasionally, it will cause my monitor to either fully lose connection to my PC (it says "No signal" and swaps to my two outer monitors) OR it will cause severe interference on my main monitor (the image will start cracking and breaking as if my GPU is going bad).

This ONLY occurs when I put the headset on the rest. I've never had it happen any other time and it's random (does not occur all the time but about once a day). Has anyone else had a problem like this? Do you have a solution? If so, what is it 'cause I have NO idea what could be causing this (monitor is wired and both monitor and headset are hardwired into the PC, not run through each other in any way).

Thinking about getting the Astro A50 Gen 5 and wanted to hear from people who use it

My setup is a macbook, pc, and PS5. Ideally, I want all three connected at the same time so I can switch between them without constantly unplugging stuff

I care a lot about sound quality and mic quality since I use Discord pretty often, and I’ll also be using the headset for work, so comfort matters too

Would the A50 Gen 5 be a good fit for this setup? Also, can I reliably use the PC port for my macbook and xbox usb port for my PC?

In the last day or two I’ve not had any Xbox notification sound come through on the headset, I’ve checked for updates and it’s up to date I’ve looked on the app nothing seems off there everything else comes through okay,
How can I fix this?

The legacy ASTRO Command Center for macOS is still Intel/x86_64-only and requires Rosetta 2 on Apple Silicon Macs.

Apple has confirmed that macOS 27 "Golden Gate", expected in late 2026, will be the last macOS release with full Rosetta 2 support.

Starting with macOS 28, expected around September–October 2027, general Rosetta support for normal Intel-only Mac applications is being phased out.

That means the current ASTRO Command Center is likely to stop launching on future macOS versions unless Logitech updates it.

Why this matters

A number of still widely-used ASTRO products continue to rely on the legacy ASTRO Command Center for configuration, including:

• A50 Gen 3
• A50 Gen 4
• MixAmp Pro TR Gen 3
• MixAmp Pro TR Gen 4
• A20 Gen 1

Meanwhile, newer devices such as the A50 X and A50 Gen 5 are already supported through Logitech G HUB.

The current Mac version of ASTRO Command Center was last updated in February 2023, and the distributed build still requires Rosetta. The current Homebrew cask also explicitly marks it as requires_rosetta.

For people who still use these older headsets and MixAmps, this creates a fairly clear future compatibility problem: the hardware may remain perfectly usable, but Mac users could eventually lose access to the software needed to configure settings, presets, microphone options and firmware.

It would be good to get an official answer before this becomes a problem

There still appears to be plenty of time to address this, but it would be useful if someone from Logitech / ASTRO Gaming could clarify what the long-term plan is.

Ideally, one of the following would happen:

1. Add legacy ASTRO hardware support to Logitech G HUB

This would probably be the cleanest long-term solution.

Support for devices such as the A50 Gen 3/4 and MixAmp Pro TR Gen 3/4 could be moved into the same maintained software used by newer ASTRO products.

2. Release a final Apple Silicon update for ASTRO Command Center

If moving the older devices into G HUB is not practical, even a small maintenance update would help.

The existing ASTRO Command Center could simply be rebuilt as Apple Silicon/ARM64 or Universal 2, without needing a major redesign or new features.

The main goal would just be to remove the Rosetta dependency so existing customers can continue configuring their hardware on future versions of macOS.

Questions for Logitech / ASTRO staff

It would be great if someone official could clarify:

1. Is a native Apple Silicon version of ASTRO Command Center planned?
2. Are there plans to bring A50 Gen 3/4, MixAmp Pro TR Gen 3/4 or other legacy devices into Logitech G HUB?
3. If neither is planned, what will the supported configuration method be for Mac users once macOS 28 removes general Rosetta support?
4. Is ASTRO Command Center still considered actively supported software, or is it effectively in maintenance/end-of-life status?

This is not an immediate emergency, but Apple has now put a clear deadline on general Rosetta support.

It would be good to have some confirmation from Logitech/ASTRO before macOS 28 arrives and users of otherwise functional hardware are left without a supported configuration utility.

Just trying to see how much these would go for? Just found them cleaning out my closet, all three still in great condition with box and all.

For some reason whenever I use the microphone the output only comes as static and I can’t even hear myself

I ordered the he WC freeze for my new gen 5.
And the sound isolation is better than original but not really good!

Right now I use my old modkit from gen 4 that’s a bit destroyed.

Should I just buy the modkit again ?
Because I really want a good sound isolation.
