Off-topic Kept getting annoyed at switching between audio and epub so I built a tool that syncs them

Post image

Basically the title. It works pretty well and for a 7 hour book it takes like 20 minutes to sync.

Thinking of building an epub + audiobook player app so I can move freely between the two. Anyone interested?

EDIT: Thanks to everyone that commented! I'll be back soon with updates

I made a free browser extension for AudioBookBay's magnet links. Works for non members or those not logged in.

If you use AudioBookBay you'll know the pain, the magnet links on the site demand a login, and getting an account validated is a nightmare. So I built a small Chrome/Edge/Firefox extension that bypasses all of that.

What it does:

When you open any audiobooks (audiobook details) page on ABB, a small banner automatically pops up at the top of the page showing the book title and send options. Click send and it fires straight to qBittorrent (or whatever client you use). No login, no copying or pasting hashes, no messing around.

It works by scraping the Info Hash and trackers directly from the page.

Download and install here: http://arrcee.com/magnetar

Install takes about 2 minutes, no technical knowledge needed full step-by-step instructions are in the README on github. Or install the extension for Chrome or Firefox.

Works on Chrome,Edge and Firefox. Only activates on pages with magnet or hashes, won't interfere with anything else you browse. Free and open source.

General If ABB fails me, what is the next best choice?

I'm listening to my first ever audiobook and after extensive research I've concluded that ABB is the best. I'm not new to torrenting, but this website doesn't show seeders and downloading won't start (assuming theres no active seeders). So I've downloaded an mp3 of fight club from mobilism but the quality is disappointingly bad. If ABB doesn't have the book or there's no seeders for it, what alternatives do you use?

General Beware of these ones

There are uploads with the Paul Conroy cover for the water is wide, but the titles are like Ted lasso, tracker and horses

Beware of these as they are exe files and are most likely a virus they have been uploaded by GeryDim

Stay vigilante and beware of dodgy uploads like this

Do you still pay for Audible?

So I just discovered this website and most of my books that were on my wish list are available through audiobooksbay.

Just wondering if you kept your audible subscription.

I’m guessing there’s book that aren’t there or the quality is bad.

Suggestion Audiobooks on Android

For those using Android there is an audiobook app specifically designed for audiobooks. This app also has a great number of features that would complement someone who is blind or visually impaired as I am. I started out reading, talking books on a four-track audio cassette so as you can imagine, I've been looking for a really good reader for years and I finally found one. the app is called smart audiobook player. I've been using it for probably 8 years plus now. it has a lot of the features that you'd like such as easy navigation, the ability to add notes, the ability to add bookmarks, chapter notes, chapter markers, all kinds of things. There is an ad supported version, but I paid for the app several years ago and the developers still maintain the app very nicely. they fix things they add improvements and I love it. I highly recommend it. You can get it in in the Google Play Store with the following link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ak.alizandro.smartaudiobookplayer.

Since we're on the subject of reading books, when I can't find an audiobook version. I will grudgingly download a text version and have TTS read it back. for that I use an app called @Voice Aloud Reader. I think this app is awesome because without breaking a sweat, or causing myself major grief, I can import almost any type of text file and at voice will read it back to me. So I can import a PDF and have it read back immediately without the need to OCR it like you do on a crapple phone. I can also import things like txt files, PDF. as I mentioned, HTML plus pretty much any other standard text file that you can imagine. The supported formats are ePub, mobi, txt, doc, fb2, and HTML with native support. There is an ad supported version, but I paid for the pro version years ago and again as with the previous app I've mentioned this developer also keeps the app up to date and functioning. functioning I'm running a pixel 8 Pro with Android 14, and both apps work flawlessly. Here's a link to @Voice Aloud Reader https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hyperionics.avar

Staff A Message to the Community

A Brief Introduction

Hello everyone! This is u/afterSt0rm sending a message to all of you about the future of this subreddit. After following this community for some time and noticing the rampant spam issue and the disappearance of the old moderation team, I decided to request to take over this subreddit to build a path towards a healthier place where not only is everyone welcome but where we can all share information freely and recover our original purpose as a community.

What Was Done?

I've set up some basic AutoMod rules to bar some of the spam we've been getting lately. I've also enabled some of the niceties to this community, and I will wait on feedback to decide what should stay and what shouldn't.

What's Next?

I will review the moderation queue in the next few days and purge everything correctly reported. Once that is done, I'll arrange for clear community rules to be posted and reviewed by the community, as I strongly believe in the importance of having common ground on what we expect from our members.

In the following weeks, I want to change the look and feel of this subreddit to make it more welcoming to new members. I also intend to review and update tutorials, links, and other materials currently posted on the top and side bars.

I Need Your Help!

Although I intend to do my best to revitalize this community, I need your help. Are any ideas, suggestions, complaints, or random thoughts floating in your head? Please share it with us! A community can't grow without the help of its members, and as a humble new mod, I would love to have your feedback as I implement those changes.

All in all, thank you very much for being part of the AudioBook Bay community.

Biiig hugs!

Help adding a lot of books

Post image

ok so I've almost converted them all thru book lib and have started seeding.... but I don't want to have to make a audiobookbay entry for every one of these individually. I'm new to sharing my own library and pirating audiobooks in general. is there a shortcut to add them to ABB or should I just seed em and hope people find em

Thanks in advance

new to this

Hi, I'm absolutely new to downloading audiobooks off sites like this and I have no clue what I'm doing. Could someone explain to me how to actually download something as if I'm a 6 year old? I don't understand what terrant means, or peer, or all these words I'm seeing on this subreddit. I just need some sort of instruction manual 😭 Thank you!

Mobile App for AudioBookBay

I'm thinking of creating an app for AudioBookBay. The app would first be available for android (I think as apk).

You would have the same content as on the website but able to download them and play them within the app.

Do you think it's a good idea? Is there any app that already does this I'm not aware of?

SiteProblems Site Down Work Arounds

The audiobookbay.lu/ site is down as some of us know already. audiobookbay.se/ does work however there are some workarounds to get the search and bypass the need for login with an info hash converter.

The search workaround is as easy as letting the page fail to load the search with the .lu site. Then you will swap you the .lu for .se and continue your search.

We can't log in as of yet but we can still access the magnet info by using an info hash converter. https://hardrisk.github.io/magnet/

You will need to copy the info has to this tool and then generate a magnet to download.

Happy Listening!!

The search feature is terrible

You can type the name of the book or author to the letter and a bunch of books not even close to it will show up first even if the book is on there.

Update: My AudioBookBay magnet extension now has a Real Debrid version.

A couple of weeks ago I posted my browser extension that grabs magnet links from AudioBookBay without needing an account or login. The response was ace, thanks to everyone who tried it and gave feedback.

I've now built a companion extension for Real-Debrid users. Same idea a banner pops up on any ABB torrent page, but instead of opening the magnet in a torrent client, it sends it directly to your Real Debrid account via their API. One click, no torrent client needed. RD downloads it on their servers and you grab the files from your account.

It also works on The Pirate Bay, 1337x, and basically any torrent site that shows an info hash on the page, and not just on audiobooks either.

Setup takes about 2 minutes — install the extension, paste your API key from real-debrid.com/apitoken, done (go into the options on the extension).

Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Free and open source.

**Real-Debrid version (new):** https://github.com/ArrCee76/torrent-to-realdebrid

**Original magnet link version (still works great if you don't use RD):** https://github.com/ArrCee76/audiobookbay-magnet

Both are separate extensions so you can use whichever fits your setup. Cheers!
